Sorry KevShmev, had to steal your idea!
So yeah, it's basically going to run the same way that the Rush SOTD thread is running, with a few changes. I'll pick a song each day, and after a week, I'll pick someone new to carry the torch. They'll go for a week, and pass it on to someone else (preferably someone that hasn't done it before). Etc.
Also, if it isn't clear, the SOTD is not limited to his solo albums. It can be any song he's been a performer on (meaning songs that he's simply done the production for don't count). So Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, Bass Communion, and Jordan Rudess' "Tarkus" are all fair game.
I hope this is fun!
The Steven Wilson Song of the Day for October 27th is "Abandoner"
The reason I didn't get into Insurgentes for a LONG time. It is totally the opposite of what traditional music sounds like. But after I warmed up to the album (which later earned a place in my top 5), I really began to appreciate the song. It's incredibly somber and haunting, musically and lyrically. I was surprised to learn that the dark tones in the latter half of the song are actually the lower keys on the piano (from the Insurgentes road documentary). Brilliant. I really really really hope Steven comes to the west coast because I would kill to hear this song.
