I'm listening to a couple of okay albums that I don't think anybody here has ever heard
I feel strangely honored to be following up a post from Sir Walrus Cauliflower.

Still think that this is low-key a top 5 Dream Theater album.

It's the album that dominates my top ten DT songs by time, with A Nightmare to Remember and The Count of Tuscany both making that list. The other four tracks are all awesome as well, yes, including the ones that people love to hate. It also has my second favorite atmosphere of any DT album, with only the incomparable Images and Words beating it in that department.

What did you think of this?  I loved it.

Pretty damn strong, yet quite safe and generic.  I'll listen a couple more times but I'm not sure it's got enough lasting power for me to purchase it.  Getting tight with the purchases these days.

Right now;

First music I've heard of this band, but I'm really liking this.  Sounds like Opeth meets Green Carnation, really quite good.

wolfking, if you like this record by Borknagar i recommend that you listen to The Olden Domain, The Archaic Course, Quintessence and Empiricism by them, all very strong records IMHO.

Cool man, they definitely seem a band that's right up my alley.

This new one could get a purchase.

Just listened to Pendulum - Hold Your Colour, awful, awful album, Sacul you're not getting any of this shit. The only noteworthy song was Tarantula but that's just a matter of nostalgia for me.

No, that's Immersion, the best Pendulum album. It goes:

Immersion>In Silico>Hold Your Colour

GETTING READY FOR THE ASTOUNDING

That will be my next listen, Kohler. So far I'm up to:

"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are God. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are God.” — Christopher Hitchens

several listens later

chon: i don't really know how many of these songs have an identity of their own besides the two with vocals, but it's just really lovely music that's also technically pleasing
east of the wall: i like how every album these guys put out has a different feel. ressentiment is really sludgy, the apologist has a strong focus on awesome riffs and more lighter moments, and redaction artifacts has a lot of noodly, frantic guitar leads mixed in with some of the most low-key songs the band has put out, each album really feels like its own thing but they all share the same sound and that's great
serdce: this is a pretty interesting album, i feel like there was a heavy DT influence here but they still do their own thing and it's a heavier sound than DT in general. but yeah. might need a while to absorb all of this one though, fairly long
