Title: All That Remains
Post by: Norwood on April 01, 2010, 05:56:19 PM
I'm on a pretty big All That Remains kick right now.  Jason Costa simply blows me away...and when Martin and Oli start really clicking it's.... :hefdaddy

Anyway, what are some other bands that have a similar sound.  I really like that they don't growl constantly, All That Remains has, IMO, the perfect amount of growling and melodic singing.

Besides...

...what are some other bands that have a nice blend of melody in their music?

They make me want to puke. But, if you want melodeath, Children of Bodom is a great option, though they do harsh vocals pretty much constantly.

ATR is not melodeath, but metalcore. The Fall of Ideals was incredible (Mainly because of Shannon Lucas beyond-awesome drumming), but Overcome was a big pile of shit (Except for Relinquish, A Song for the Hopeless and CHIRON :2metal:. Havent heard the rest of them TBH.

Other melodic bands? Mutiny Within maybe, theyre extremely melodic; and if you want something kinda thrashier, you might find Soilwork good too: Start with their albums Natural Born Chaos and A Predators portrait (And if you want sth EVEN more melodic, hear Sworn to a Great Divide... I didnt like it though, its too melodic for me :P). As for MW, they only have one full album.

I actually like Overcome.  I like all their albums.  I wouldn't call it a pile of shit...yeah it's got some catchy type, almost poppy vocals, at times...it certainly isn't "shit".  All IMO, of course.  :metal

Also, just picked up Mutiny Within on iTunes.  Good stuff.

Something I noticed...hint:  Notice their song titles seem to be influenced by a certain other band? :)

Well, maybe not all the album is a big pile of shit. Maybe its just very mediocre IMO. But I also think Forever in Your Hands and Undone are a big pile of shit.

I really like All That Remains musicaly, but I still have a major problem with the vocals.
I feel that Darkest Hour is better than ATR, but again the vocals kill me. But Darkest Hour is the first band, other than ATR, where I've really tried to get past it.

Very nice!  I'm only 2 minutes into the first song, 'Out Of Reach'

Awesome chorus
Awesome guit work

Perfect recommendation.  Thank you!

All That Remains is pretty good. They just don't experiment too much is all. Gets boring after a while if theres not solid hooks.

Six is the only thing they've done I can stand and that's mainly because of the lighter section in the middle.

Entirely different genre, but Paradise Lost create an amazing combination of heaviness and harsh vocals with melodic guitars and clean singing. Their last album, "Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us" is imo the second best release of 2009. The song The Rise of Denial is the perfect representation.

Ugh I'm not going to even bother telling my All That Remains story again.

But for similar bands, check out:

As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us
Bullet For My Valentine - The Poison
Darkest Hour - Deliver Us
Into Eternity - Scattering of Ashes
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress

The last two are less metalcore than ATR, but you will probably like them (strong scream/growl to singing ratio).

I'm bumping the thread just to say this.

Not really. AtR is about to release a new album, For We Are Many, on October 12th. They've released two songs: "Hold On", which sucks major dick and seems like a Post-Grunge song with distorted guitars (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP2umYUMCko); and the title track, WHICH FUCKING KICKS MAJOR ASS :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWMTEpXjJuo) That's what I call real fucking metalcore.I hope the rest of the album is like the title track.

Shadows Fall is some pretty good metalcore.  A Fire in Babylon is EPIC.

The Fall of Ideals might be my favorite metalcore album. (behind THA's Nocturne, of course)
"Six" is pure epic win.
