It was a rough night...Allegaeon aside, I think Kataklysm was the strongest of the remaining bands, SepticFlesh was very solid though.

Whoa, I just looked at tickets for Beat, but the cheapest seat is ~$400. Not sure if I would spend that amount for anyone.

Former King Crimson members ADRIAN BELEW and TONY LEVIN band together with guitar virtuoso STEVE VAI and explosive Tool drummer DANNY CAREY for the first time to create BEAT, a creative reinterpretation of the three iconic 80s KING CRIMSON albums – Discipline, Beat, and Three Of A Perfect Pair.

Most of the shows have been selling out so fast that I'd bet you're seeing Platinum or resale tickets, standard tickets were nowhere near that expensive

Since I've all but given up on seeing DT in 2024, time to focus on other acts coming through the area

2024 Line up
5/18 - Mudvayne/POD - Ledyard, CT
9/28 - Noah Kahan - Bridgeport Soundside Music Festival
10/26 - Godsmack/Flat Black - Uncasville, CT

Mudvayne/POD was a better than expected show.  POD was good, recognized a few of their bigger songs from so long ago and they sounded great (vox aside).

Mudvayne was intense (my first time seeing them live).  They started off introducing a stand in guitarist due to family emergency.  This guy played so well that if it wasn't called out you may not have known he was a fill in.  I cannot imagine getting a call the day of a show asking to play a set.  Then pulling it off - hats off to him.  Ryan Martinie (bassist) was the show for me, though.  What an amazing talent on his instrument, and a complete mental case on stage.  Guess it's fitting for the persona they play but my goodness seeing him play live was a real treat.

Up next is what would be the opposite end of the music spectrum - Noah Kahan.  Really looking forward to this show.

Great pic of you with the band member.  I would love to see Allegaeon.  Loved the last two cd’s from the band.

Yeah, they're so good live, a bit different since they have a new singer (who is actually the original singer Ezra). Riley handled Damnum and Apoptosis, but left the band under very strange circumstances, we were talking with Greg about it, and Riley just quit out of the blue. Ezra doesn't have the clean vocal abilities that Riley did, so guitarist Micheal handled the cleans during Of Beast and Worms. Ezra's growls are just brutal man.

Saw this the other day regarding that show:

Quote
MUDVAYNE guitarist Greg Tribbett was forced to miss the band's May 18 concert at the Premier Theater at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut due to a family emergency. Playing all guitar parts at the show was MUDVAYNE's second guitarist, Marcus Rafferty, who has been joining the band on the road to fill out the sound.

Rafferty is a veteran guitar technician who has previously worked with LAMB OF GOD, HATEBREED, SAXON, FOZZY and MUDVAYNE. He also spent time as a guitar tech and stage manager for HELLYEAH, the band MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray co-founded in 2006 with Tribbett alongside late PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.

Well, this is a neat surprise.  I was looking through some shows that I could go to in July and I found that Japanese Rock Band, Man With a Mission (the one where all the guys wear wolf heads) is playing at Hollywood Palladium in LA.  That's a pretty big step up from when I saw them at the Regent last year.  Apparently, they were supposed to be at the Belasco (which is slightly bigger than Regent, but not by much), but apparently they got the venue upgrade to Hollywood Palladium.  Largest indoor all-standing venue in LA at around 4,000 people or so.  Hard to pass on a ticket that's listed on TickPick for $18.00.

Man With a Mission - Hollywood Palladium - Los Angeles, CA.  July 2nd, 2024

I also note that Alice Cooper will be at the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa at the OC County Fair in August.  On a Friday.  That's something for me to consider at a later time.

All right, time to recap the Amon Amarth concert I went to at the Honda Center yesterday.  This might have been the first ever death metal-themed concert I have ever been to.  Ticket was $25.00 since I got it from the Live Nation concert week offer.  I opted not to pay for parking this time around.  Parking there was $25.00 and quite frankly, I opted to take a bus to the ARTIC train station across the street and then paying for a Lyft home since it was cheaper.  The arena also closed off some parking lots around the arena since they are doing some construction for the OC-Vibe thing they got in development in which will be a LA Live-like entertainment center with some restaurants, hotels, and a nice high-end theater that hold around 6,000 people or so.  Hopefully, in a few years, it all turns out nicely and hopefully, I can see bands like Slash or DT in this theater without needing to drive to Downtown LA or Inglewood.

Back to the concert, as I got in, there was probably around 7,000 people that showed up at its peak.  You see curtains that closed off around 5,000 seats and not all of the seats or GA sections were full.  Still, I think for a four-band death metal concert bill, this was a success and the crowd was good.  I had an all right view for what I paid for in the nosebleed section.

First band on the bill was Frozen Soul (from Dallas mother'fen Texas as the frontman shouted many times during the set).  I can't recall much about the sound, but I was impressed on a few things they were able to get the people in the circle pit (which by the way included a guy wearing a teletubby suit and one guy wearing I think a banana costume) that was running basically during all four bands sets to do.  First they had the pit get on the floor and do pushups during a song and people were willing to comply.  Also, during the 2nd to last song, they threw some Magic the Gathering packs and encouraged people to play Magic in the pit and for everyone to make room for the people playing Magic and do a circle pit around it.  I couldn't remember much about the set, but I can remember those two things they got the circle pit to do, so that's something.

2nd band was Obituary.  I actually liked found them to be the 2nd best band of the night.  Nothing fancy, but there was enough that I liked to keep my attention during the set.  I cannot say the same for Cannibal Corpse, the 3rd band of the night.  You find me dozing off during a set, that would mean the band just didn't do anything to grab my attention and that was the case for Cannibal Corpse.  Their sound was basically monotonous for me and nothing against them, but nothing I can pay deep attention to.  I did like the frontman banter.  He said something like "This next song, you will not out-headbang me.  You can try, but you will fail, but at least you tried and that's ok."  He also said, "You having a good time?  Well, I'm going to ruin your mood by saying this is the last song."  They ended up playing two songs after that speech, so whatever.

As for Amon Amarth, I'm surprised on the amount of props they had.  They had pyro.  They had two giant Viking statues on the side of the stage and then they changed those up for two sea creature statues.  They had two guys waving flags around and had those guys, later on, doing a sword and shield fight.  There was also a guy in what I think had a warlock costume on that the frontman kicked him around at times.  Honestly, the way they approached this show was very Iron Maiden-like if you asked me.  Quality playing, you got good backdrops, and good props that fits the songs they were playing.  The set was really enjoyable.  Also, to commemorate the end of the tour, I don't know if this was the only show that had this, but before they played Raise Your Horns, they had these sizable horns that acted like glasses to drink beer out of and had a toast on a tour well done.

All in all, it was a fun night.  $25.00.  Can't complain.  If I had the fortitude for it, I would go and say, "the next time, Amon Amarth comes to these parts, I would want to try to get a GA ticket just to feel what it was like in that section during the rowing pit," but I know my body is too broken down for that.  How I know that is the case is because the next concert I will go to will be vastly different.  Going to see Yellowcard and Third Eye Blind in June at the Greek Theater.

Sounds like a blast for $25! I would definitely go see those 4 bands, as I'm not sure I've seen any of them live before. Maybe I saw Amon Amarth at Download Festival years ago.

It feels a weird line up for me, to see a band like Obituary third on the bill. They are my favourite out of the 4 (actually that's reminded me, I saw Obituary support Slayer on their "final" tour), and headliners as far as I'm concerned.

Went to two shows in the Netherlands:

-Liberty Project by Edward Reekers P60
-Nickelback Ziggodome

Edward Reekers show was great. Sad to see a very small crowd, but they performed the album perfectly, with different singers and instrumentalists. I still like the concept album very much and it was brought to live very well.

I live very close to where Nickelback played and got a last minute second hand ticket for like 50 euros (a 120 euro seat). It was well worth it. They are really good live to be honest. Good stage presence, a lot of solid vocal harmonies and pleasant heavy riffing. And they pull a great crowd of all ages that leans surprisingly young.

On a sidenote, I think the late 90s/early 00s bands that seemed "hated" on the internet are aging really well (Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Slipknot, Nickelback etc.). I unironically feel some of these artists are some of the best live acts to see right now.

Same.  Sounds like a good show, that tour came local and sold out.

Also for $25, last week I saw George Clinton with Parliament Funkadelic. I had a Parliament greatest hits album as a kid that I always enjoyed.  I don't really listen to them much at all anymore, but every once in awhile, I'd listen to some George Clinton songs over the years.  He would fairly consistently play at this venue in NJ.  Apparently he grew up not too far from there.  I had known about these shows before, but never went.  Well finally with the $25 sale and able to get to the venue easily after work, I decided now was the time.

Dumpstaphunk opened the show.  I wasn't familiar with them, but I had heard of them before (Maybe they toured with 311 before??).  Anyway, I got there early enough that the venue was fairly empty on the floor for their start so I was right up front.  Thought they were pretty fun.  A bit jammy, with a couple different vocalists.  The horn section had their synchronized dances.  There was feedback that kept occuring during their set though, and being up front, it was cool to see them try to figure out how it was happening.  They couldn't  :lol and it lead to the trombone player often plaing from the side of the stage because I think they thought it had to do with his speaker.  THe bass player came by and cleary was trying to figure it out and had a look on his face of "nah, it's not you" to the trombone player  :lol The sound, otherwise, was pretty good.  The venue floor had mostly fillled up by the time they finished.  I asked a tech for the set list while they cleaned up afterwords, and my wish was granted!

I left my spot to chill in the back for the headliner.  There must have been like 20 people on stage for P Funk.  I think there was too much going on.  Their sound was really poor IMO.  Very hard to hear a lot of the instruments and vocalists clearly.  They also still had a feedback issues, although it didn't look like anyone on P Funk cared to fix it as they just kept playing like nothing was happening.  I think the sound got better as the show went on, but still, it never was good.  Either way, they were still a lot of fun.  I think having a lot of different singers was still kind of cool, got to hear difference voices fit the different songs.  There were also different guitarists, it seemed one was more of the jamming lead solo player, and one was more of the rock n roll player.  WHat to I know, I'm not expert, just how it seemed to me.   George Clinton sat at the center of the stage for most of the set occassionally adding a vocal line here and there.  At 82 years old, I can't expect much from him, and it did seem they advertised the show more as P Funk with GC, not the other way around.  I still thought it was cool to finally see the legend in person.  It was a fun set, but really not a great one IMO although there were some elements to make me think this band could be a lot better if they just fixed the sound.

After the show I turned the corner of the venue to get to my car and George Clinton was sitting in a van with the tour open, with a line of people to step in and meet him.  I think it was actually family members, but looks like fans were also surrounding the van.  I thought it would be cool if he was doing a meet and greet and I got near the van and OMG, it smelled SO bad.  Like dirty feet.  EW.  I almost felt like that smell is going to be more memorable than the show  :lol
