I think it comes extremely close to Pull Me Under, but I think they overdid it with the orchestral sounds and things like that in OTBOA.

That one is kinda tough. Is he liking it because that person wants the AM album? Or because he agrees that DT is not as good without him? That ambiguity makes it hard to tell, but because he liked the whole status, it's like he is saying he agrees with the whole thing.

Same here. I only really listen to WDADRU, so all those little extra bits seem normal now

Jealousy, most likely. And he probably feels betrayed or something. For me it feels like he's responding to the new DT song the classic "meh... it's alright, I guess"-way (even though he probably thinks the song is quite good and is a bit bitter over the fact that they actually managed to do without him), while he goes and likes comments about the song and the sound of the current line-up that are negative (a.k.a. talks shit about it behind their backs). Mike has never been the one to handle these kinds of things well, and his overdone silence about the whole "new DT" thing smells strongly of that he's really holding a lot of bad feelings back.

I mean, Mike doesn't really believe that Mangini's "touch and sound" was awful. He's just jealous.

I dunno, but they really need to give some of it back. I mean, DT doesn't seem to have any complaints about their new label, but still, Roadrunner, DT is one of the most musically beautiful bands out there. Pay for some airtime on the radio for them! Let people who don't follow the underground circles of Metal hear what they've been missing. Afterall, advertising breeds sales.
The only reason why mainstream albums sell at all is because they're well marketed.

I could be biased here, but I think at this point you're giving Portnoy too much benefit of the doubt. I think he's being really nasty here.

Dude, seriously.  The post said Mangini was awful.  Either Mike Portnoy is an idiot, or he was giving approval to a really nasty dig at Mangini.  Since I don't believe for a second that he's an idiot, I can only go with the latter.

Why wouldn't that make sense?  From his classic rock prog interview it was obvious he felt like he was forced out of DT and bitterly hated it.  Every time he talks about how the band's dealt with him since he's left he's implied they treated him like shit.  When people asked him about the new drummer process on his forum he referred to it as 'hearing about who's fucking his ex-wife.'

Everything he's said about DT since he left has been bitter and spiteful in some way.  Why doesn't it make sense that he'd continue to do bitter and spiteful things?

Okay, well, my question is, when WAS the last time anyone heard DT on the radio? Cause it's sad to say I sure as hell have never heard it play on any of the local radio stations, even the Rock one. It's like, "Metallica, Nirvana, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Nirvana, Metallica, Nirvana, Nirvana, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Metallica, Nirvana. Rush. Metallica..."
