Yes Programmed and YFG are top notch releases.

I guess Poison Seed is technically their second full release

Still really enjoying this one

Yeah there are some really good songs on there. Its a shame about the production though. You'd think the guy who mixed mindcrime and empire would know how to make a good sounding queensryche record but I guess not.

You'd be right  ;D   I think it would've been better as an instrumental album.  Having said that the singer is quite versatile and sounded a lot better in  Le Mans.

Listening to all these Shrapnel records again reminds me of Frontiers these days - they mostly all sound the same ,if not with the songs then surely the production.

Yeah haha, the vox were definitely the weak link on those two albums.  Still really enjoyable stuff though.  Their solo albums were better IMO.

You seem to be saying that a lot lately Tim ..............is it the albums?  ;D

The Le Mans is just alright.  It has 3 or 4 good rockers and the best track is the much softer opener where you'd barely recognise his voice.  I never really play it and it didn't really get near my 1986 list.

That and old age!

I know these days there are so many bands to listen to, but Too many bands, Too little time was even a problem back in the day. If something didn't grab you right away, it usually got shelved.

Yeah I know what you mean .   These days there is the issue of have having to listen to so many new releases to find one that sticks.  "Back in the day" the strike rate was a lot better but due to the lack of internet etc... the issue was being forced to buy so many rare albums (order only) without a chance to sample them - you either paid up and took the risk or left it.  Hence the reason I have so many dud CDs packed away that wouldn't get near me these days.

if you had an awesome relationship with your record store you could sometimes get away with a listen and return but that got old quick , especially with Euro/Jap imports.

And unfortunately, all you would have to go on was a band's name photo. If they looked cool, you could take a chance. That is literally how I bought Keepers Pt.1, without ever hearing a single note, only to become  Top 5 album in my life.

You picked my two favourite Racer X tracks there , along with Scarified which was for a little while there my favourite instrumental.   There's a few duds on the album but those three really make it , along with Lady Killer Hammer Away and Moonage Daydream which are also pretty cool. Strong album, although it has the typical muddy Shrapnel production job.

That version of Heart Of A Lion is better than Priest's original. Decent album but as Brent said, production isn't doing it any favours.
