Checking availability.  Is your dad coming?

I haven't asked him yet, but it's his normal work day so....maybe.  :lol

I could bring something baked for a dessert, probably. Maybe I will try to get this one cookie recipe right finally...haha  ;D

got my flight and car booked for OAK  :metal

You know, actually, unless you need the car for other reasons, you can probably cancel it and take BART if you need to save a few bucks.

Very close! Union City BART is only a couple miles from my place, so it's not a problem to pick you up and drop you off, if you like.  :tup

That's awesome. I am probably gonna take BART then, if that's alright!

Sure!  As we get closer, I'll PM you and Yesh and see if I can coordinate picking you both up around the same time.

I just found out I may have a conflict.
Otherwise, I found a rental car from SJC for $16 (too cheap to pass up) and I am arriving earlier than scheduled so would be happy to give a ride to anyone that needs it.

Fuuuuuck, just this minute found out a potential conflict. My and the sax quartet I play in got offered a possible gig for Nov. 8+9 so if that comes through I won't be able to come. I should know this week and I'll be sure to let you know!

Have you guys decided on a date? I may be going on a cruise that leaves from Cali on the 11th, and I was going to arrive there on the 10th. I may be able to take a flight out to be there on the 9th if everything works out...still very up in the air but I'd love to join!

EDIT: Disregard my question...just saw that you have an update in the original post for the 9th!

I'll keep the thread updated if I'm able to make it out.

Sorry you can't make it.  :'(  I'll keep this thread (or another) active on the day of the party, so you all will have a chance to hang out virtually.  :corn

We're getting close, so I'll be sending out PM's to the attendees shortly!   :D

I already had one viewing party, but I'm looking forward to this one.  Here is a pic from the one I attended:

Ok, still waiting for confirmation from a couple people, so check your PM's!

Looking forward to the show, just 24 hours from now! Other than the first track for sound setup, I haven't watched it, how about you guys?

I watched just a few songs to get a feel for the look and sound.  Otherwise, I'm savin' myself for you, buddy.

Ok I just finished the jam session/viewing party with some of my friends and we totally had blast. Two things you'll want to know- if you want to hear the keyboard at a decent volume, stereo is by far the best mix. The surround sound is not great. Second, when you see the voice not quite match JLB's mouth (although it's not far off), I can tell you as someone who's heard a bit of the untouched audio that most of the overdubs are actually not as good as how he originally sang it. You probably don't believe me when I say that, but it's true for the most part. I only say it so you know when you see overdubs, it does not mean it wasn't as good at the actual show.

That was pretty much the only thing I wasn't totally pleased with, and it's not huge. This DVD freaking ROCKS.  :omg:

I played around with the settings, and while the keys *may* have cut through a bit more in the Stereo track, the 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio track on the Bluray sounds SOOOO much better in terms of sound field, clarity, and impact.

Glad your party went well!  We're about an hour away from guests arriving.  :D

nice! We actually watched the DTS on the DVD through stereo on my surround sound system, and it's not bad, so if it sounds good in your place, totally go for it, I'd say.

I DEMAND PICZ
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
