What do the good people at DTF - that are also At the Gates fans - think of their comeback album, At War With Reality? I've always enjoyed it. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, to be sure. They played it relatively safe and it was always bound to be bit anti-climatic after so many years (and given Slaughter of the Soul - like it or not - turned out to be a scene-setter of sorts). But, for the most part, the tunes are there.
And Beneath the Remains - nothing new here, but what a beast of an album. LOVE Kisser's guitar on this one.
Also, one from this year:
Sludgy metal with some twists. I had checked this out back when it came out a few months ago, and it didn't really stick. For some reason, I went back to it and I'm quite enjoying it now. It can be pretty heavy at times, but it also has some interesting forays into "alternative" territory. A good example is the song "What a Way to Go"...it even has blastbeats, and the vocals can be quite harsh, but then it opens up to an excellent melodic chorus. The final run of songs is great too, with a(n almost) ballad to close the proceedings. Luke - this might have potential for you (might
