What bands/musicians are from your area?
« on: July 22, 2012, 06:41:51 PM »
(thread idea stolen from 5/8)

I live in the town where Neutral Milk Hotel was formed. Jeff Mangum founded my college radio station.

Well I live in Chicago, so lots of bands.  Smashing Pumpkins, Fall Out Boy, Chicago, etc.

Speaking of Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan was at a bar down the street from me a few weeks ago to premier his new wrestling show.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

A few bands from my area are We All Have Hooks For Hands, an indie rock band that just called it quits that were decently large, there's Amos Slade, a great alt rock band.  Fluxx, Tennessee Murderclub and Tetnis Flesh are some bigger metal bands here, and I personally know a few of the guys from Fluxx, they're great guys and their music is schweet.  Oh yeah there's also that Spill Canvas band that got huge for awhile a few years ago, never liked them that much but was happy to see a Sioux Falls band hit the big time.

I can't think of any from my hometown but Fates Warning is from Connecticut.

Apparently Michael Bolton's family lives near me, but that's not something I'm proud of.

From Turkey, just Pentagram or its other name Mezarkabul, the only heavy metal band that globally known. It sucks that we don't have many.

BTBAM is from my area.

Came here to post this, as well as Ben Folds.  Even though I don't live in Greenville, SC anymore, Needtobreathe was formed by Furman Graduates.

Tampa had quite the burgeoning death metal scene in the 90s, didn't it?

So I'm guessing you're from Halifax too. I was just about to come in here and say April Wine and Sloan.

In fact, even more specifically, April Wine are from the same suburb of Halifax as me.

My hometown: Raging Slab, and I only know that because the lead singer lived three blocks from me and he kept telling local kids his band was on MTV (and they were)

Everywhere else I've ever lived: nothing.
