Worst TV Show Theme Songs.

Which are they ?

I'm talking about all around bad. Music & Lyrics. 

I'm guessing Star Trek Enterprise will get mentioned but it's only bad because it's on a Star Trek show. If it was on a mid-day drama show it would work just fine.

Which version of the song are you talking about?  I liked the version they used on the early seasons, but not the gussied up one they used in the later seasons.  It was one of those "more is not better" things.  Both were different for Star Trek, but I honestly liked the version they used on the first two seasons.

I don't think you can find it on Youtube anymore, but there was this truly atrocious version of Cruel Angel's Thesis from Neon Genesis Evangelion for the Chinese dub.

I don't know if an ending theme counts but just on the basis of "Completely fails to match the tone of the show" the ending theme for the anime Elfen Lied is horrible.

Really there's no way there can be something worse than the worst anime themes. When anime gets bad it gets terrible.

I was actually thinking of THIS when I came up with the thread idea.

And yes - Enterprise first version is definitely way better. It's not a terrible song per se. It just doesn't fit Star Trek and the electronic drumbeat for seasons 3 and 4 just made it worse.

The one that immediately comes to mind is Berserk. I do not like the song, and it is the reason that I put the show on hold for six months. Then I realized that I could skip the opening.  :facepalm:

Outside of anime, some Doctor Who openings. Most variants of the song are really good, though a few fall flat and lack intrigue.

Anime brethren:I honestly ABHORRED both the OP and ED of Berserk. Now that I'm thoroughly an addicted, crazed fan of the series, I really love both of them. The anime has it's nostalgia kicks for me but I'm for the most part probably not gonna watch it again since the movies are out and the manga is infinitely superior to both in my opinion. I'm a purist though, and while the movies are amazing, they still don't get me goin' like the manga.

Muggles: FUCKING SONS OF ANARCHY. Jesus tap dancing christ I HATE IT. I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT!  :lol But seriously, it is so fucking atrocious. To make it worse, the volume is clearly raised during the opening so I'm either blasted by a horrible song or have to remember to turn it down every time I watch the show. Completely bland, repetitious (even for a handful of seconds), dull, grating and annoying. It's the worst opening I've ever heard or seen for any show. I like the show alright, even though I think it's degraded over time but the song is just...it almost brings the entirety of the show down for me a little, I hate it so much.

Does anyone besides me want to gouge their eardrums out when they hear the theme from "Smallville?" It makes the "Enterprise" theme sound BEAUTIFUL by comparison!!!

A lot of the 70's show were edgy for the time yet their songs were silly, carefree.  Never understood that.

Were you talking about "Smallville" being the show you've never seen, King?
 You probably already know this, but it's the one about Clark Kent before he became Superman. Anyway, it had one of the WORST theme songs ever.

I'm not really that much into the whole country/honky-tonk thing, but the Justified theme to me is still better and less offensive than a lot of the others. I don't really remember if it was originally an instrumental.

The actor playing Clark looked older than Christopher Reeve in Superman 1 .

I'm not saying it was the greatest show ever-although there were a FEW good episodes-but that song was worse than the show.

I watched it from beginning to end.  I'm a sucker for superhero shows.   It was ok.  I like Arrow way better.

A big part of it is that for a while (I'm not sure if recent seasons changed the 'sound war' format), the volume would turn up quite a good bit for just the intro, and that damn twangy (hint: I also abhor country  :P ), repeating couple strings just keeps on playin', same thing over and over for half a minute, with it made even louder. That succession of those chords is just absolutely grating to my ears; and the tone on the guitar is gross... It (obviously) rubs me the wrong way, in every way. The whole television 'sound war' really just gets my blood boiling with how asinine and ignorant it is. "SURELY IF THEY HEAR US MORE THEY'LL LIKE US MORE". The whole thing kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth and annoys me. Along with the intro itself, visually, just being very plain-Jane and cliche 'biker' themes that smell of a moldy, aged cheddar.

Oh and yeah, definitely not a fan of the Smallville intro. I was a big fan of the show back in the day, but I tried watching it again the other day and wanted to murder everything on screen. Especially Lana. Holy hell. That little bug-eyed alien freak is ALMOST more annoying than the SoA theme.

This is tough for me, because I find that the majority of TV theme songs forgettable, not necessarily bad.  Which makes the great ones really stand out.

Kotowboy, why are watching all of those Nickelodeon shows?

For me it has to be Eastenders and Coronation Street.

Not only are they rank awful theme tunes and massively depressing, but even hearing the first couple of notes makes me shudder. Takes me back to a time when I was in a relationship where she would watch 3 hours of this mind numbing soapy shit every fecking evening. It takes its toll.
