Where were you when Carlin died?

Oh yea...YOU WEREN'T A FAN!

There's few moments in my life that I remember exactly where I was. Two of them are 9/11 and when Carlin died.
I remember where I was. I was at home, watching the news, making a mental note to check out his stuff at the earliest convenience, so THERE.

Can anyone stop the metal?
Absolutely not.

Nice answer. Have you read When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?
Regrettably, I haven't read any of his books. I really need to.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

I'm guessing you missed a letter.  If you meant "afrot", I'm naturally buoyant, thank you.  If you meant "your afro"... dude, that was a private picture just between the two of us!

I saw your daughters cakes and I am blown away how talented she is at such a young age.  How did see get involved and how did she get so talented?!

Thanks King... she does have some pretty serious talent.  It was just over a year ago, just just decided she wanted to bake and decorate a cake (I have no idea the occasion, since it was in the spring, and there are not significant holidays, or family birthdays/anniversaries).  We enrolled her in a 4-week city-run cake decorating course, and the instructor was blown away at how talented she naturally was.  After the first 2 classes, the instructor was teaching her totally separate stuff/techniques - way ahead of the other kids.  Jingle.daughter has since done several classes, and everytime the teacher is pretty amazed, and has offered for her to sit in on the adult-courses that they hold.  The big moment was when (last Feb) Buddy Vlastro (or at least his Facebook handlers) commented on this cake she made for Mrs.Jingle's birthday.

When do you think you will retire, quit doing what you're doing now? And what next? Do similar things? or different things? Work for LO full-time for instance? :neverusethis:

Retire... I've got at least 20-25 years before I get there.  I'm a rather risk averse person, so career-wise, slow and steady is how I'm playing it right now.  When I do retire, I've always wanted to be a golf course Marshall.  Drive around all day, shoot the shit with people, tell the slow and inconsiderate shits to pick up the pace, and play cheap golf.  That'd be my summer, and in the winter, travel.

Quit what I'm doing now... well, for the most part I'm pretty content with my job/work/employer.  It's got it's ups and downs like anything, but by and large things are good.  Until that changes, I have no thought about what's next.  So long as it's something I enjoy and pays the bills, I'm cool.

I might consider working for LO full-time, but not until my boss gives me a much undeserved promotion.

SCTV or SNL?

Ever been caught? If not, how old were you at the time of the closest call you experienced?

Better CFL expatriate: Warren Moon or Doug Flutie?

John Candy or John Belushi?

What was the proudest moment of your life?

Great question.  I'd say my University career.  First, getting in.  I was pretty much a badass in high-school.  Fucked around and didn't get good enough grades to get accepted anywhere - even the shit schools.  So, took a year off to figure out what to do with my life, and then went back to high school at 20 years old for a semester to upgrade my marks.  I re-took three courses, finished with 96%, 92% and 84% in those three, got a letter of recommendation from the Head of Business, and was accepted into the Economics program at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, ON - even though my overall average was slightly below the minimum.  Once in, I was one of 40ish people in my freshman class of about 250 that graduated.  I don't do shit with Economics these days, but my opinion is that a University degree is really only something to demonstrate that one can complete a significant long-term task when required.

Why Canada?

In no particular order ... Hockey.  Healthcare. Culture. Democracy. Diversity. Climate. Education. Acceptance.
Stereotypically.... Pop. Sitting on the couch. Toque's. Canadian Bacon. Stronger beer. Maple Syrup. Poutine.  And lastly... Beaver's.

SCTV or SNL?

John Candy or John Belushi?

SNL gets the nod for longevity.  But if we compare only the periods that SCTV was around... man, it was a dead heat.  The quality of comedians that came from both in the late 70s/early 80s is unreal..  The Second City still exists... there is a comedy club downtown Toronto that I go to once a year or so.  The quality of their shows is hit and miss though.

No.  15 or 16 I think.

When comparing both CFL and NFL career's, Warren Moon hands down.  Statistically superior to Flutie in virtually every category.  9 x pro-bowl; 5 x Grey Cup; 70,000 passing yards.

Candy.  Could be patriotism.  Could be his hey-day was when I was a teenager.  Uncle Buck, Who's Harry Crumb?, Planes/Trains/Automobiles, Spaceballs, Cool Runnings, The Great Outdoors, Brewster's Millions... too many great flick's.

How did you choose your username?

Sorry Bob, missed the question earlier.  Alas, Mason is ill-informed.

From the 'Explain your username' thread - https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=33629.0

I was registering for some website about 15 years ago, and every username I chose (no matter how seemingly obscure - oooohhhh...nugget!), I kept getting 'that username is taken'.  At the time, there was a commercial on TV around here with a family at a dinner table, and the daughter's boyfriend was dressed as a court jester.  It was clearly an awkward moment for the family (it was total silence), and when mom asked someone to pass the potato's, the jester started to, and she yelled out "not you jingle boy!".  My gf (now wife) loved that line, and used it over and over again.

That username was not taken, so it's kinda stuck in a lot of places I register at.

Phew!  That was a long post.

Thankfully, there was no flashing involved.  I've met the chef twice now in the past four months.  He's an excellent man, and a good friend.  Down to earth, composed, great stories, easy to talk to, modest, caring, considerate, selfless, and  :hat.  I tip the feathered cap to our resident tour guide.

Does your job evolve with time, or will you basically being doing the same thing until you change jobs?  Do you prefer a static job or one that evolves?

If you had one piece of advice for me, what would it be?

In terms of mass produced beer, the Canadian brands are better than Budweiser, Miller, and Coors.  you have to give him that king.  However, just based on sheer numbers I'd say America wins the craft/microbrew war hands down.

If you had it (life, I mean) to do all over again, would you change anything?

Doubt it.  I have (relatively speaking) a very nice life at the moment.  Good career, great family, nice shape financially.  The things that I might want to change (example... being more outgoing with 'the ladies' in my teens :eyebrows:) would probably have led me on a path that would've been more detrimental long-term, than benefit short term.  I could be a crack-snorting pimp.

I always remember a quote Picard had in an episode of ST:TNG... "There are many parts of my youth that I'm not proud of. There were... loose threads - untidy parts of me that I would like to remove. But when I pulled on one of those threads - it'd unravel the tapestry of my life."  I wouldn't necessarily say 'many parts' or 'not proud of', but every step in life ends up leading you precisely to where you are right now.

If you had one piece of advice for me, what would it be?

Get my kids to and thru post-secondary education (they're 12 now).  Be comfortable/set financially.  Keep my family happy and together.  Play more golf.  Vacation in Europe.  Rekindle my relationship with my father.  Cook more.

Not really, but working in a $25B company there's no shortage of different roles/responsibilities that I can look at, or that get thrown at me.  I like evolving and doing different things... but not until what I am doing starts to feel a little stale.  Don't like changing lanes too early.

First, finish your Top 50v2.  Second, get a passport.  Better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it.

Favorite??  Not sure.  Weekdays, it's brushing my teeth, helping with kid's breakie, then a cup of coffee and DTF.  Weekends, same but scratch the helping kids with breakie.  I like an early morning workout whenever I can.

Well, I sure as hell didn't dream of becoming a Sales professional.  :lol  It's a good thing that pays the bills quite handsomely Can't remember any specific desires growing up.  At one point in my late teens early 20s, I had visions of trying stand-up comedy.  Then reality set in, that there was no good way to make a living for about 99.9% of those "professionals".

Mediterranean cruise.  Hands down.  Was planning that for Mrs.Jingle's 40th last year, but we decided to do a family Disney cruise again instead.  Unfortunately, neither of our parents are in good enough health to watch our kids for 2 weeks.  We'll get to Europe when the kids have flown the coop.

Chad, give us some Canadian bands that some may not know that you like.

You know what sex in a canoe and American beer have in common?  Their both fucking close to water.

Outside of the holy and secondary Triumpherant (see what I did thar???), I'll take some shots, but I never know who's well known and who's not.  See, the CRTC (Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission) mandates that Canadian radio and TV stations play a minimum of their content (30% I think) must be "Canadian".  Doesn't mean the artist actually has to be Canadian, but if it was written by Bryan Adams, but sung by an American, that's ok.  So, we get a lot of "forced" exposure to Canadian acts.  I'm not up on the newer stuff (other than what's been pimped around here like Pyramid Theorem (thanks to Johnny!), Mystery and Mandroid Echostar (thanks to RJ)), but from the 70s and 80s....

Lighthouse
Max Webster/Kim Mitchell
Saga
The Guess Who
Loverboy
Alanah Myles
Sass Jordan
April Wine
Harem Scarem
Colin James (older stuff... he's pretty jazzy nowadays)
Big House (one-album wonder from the 80s)
Trooper
Honeymoon Suite (you know these guys, king)
The Tea Party
Bachman-Turner Overdrive
The Tragically Hip (although I was never too much of a fan)
Rockhead (one album band fronted and named for Bob Rock)
Chrissy Steele
Lee Aaron

That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

How was meeting the chef himself in flash and bones?

Oh, and just don't call him by his first name.  That's reserved for Momstar.

In terms of mass produced beer, the Canadian brands are better than Budweiser, Miller, and Coors.  you have to give him that king.  However, just based on sheer numbers I'd say America wins the craft/microbrew war hands down.

Well duh!  You've got 10x the population, so it would be exceptionally sad if you didn't.   :lol

J-Boy, do you or have you ever played an instrument?

Also, what were;
Your first album?
Your first concert?

Yes.  Piano lessons from the age of 8 thru 14.  Actually was about to test for my Grade 8 conservatory, but then my parents split up, and I quickly turned into a little shit.  Played in concert and jazz band thru high school ... sax.  Started with baritone, then progressively went smaller, all the way to soprano.  Probably could still pick it up and play a few notes, but haven't touched one in 20+ years.

Can't really remember my first album... would've been something poppy.  I didn't get into rock music until '86 or so.  Actually, I remember getting Paris by Supertramp (on vinyl) as a Christmas gift from a (clueless, but apparently wise) grandparent at a young age.  First concert?  Poison opening for DLR in 87.  Steve Vai on the axe, Billy Sheehan on the bass.  Damn DLR had a good band.  I was too much of a noob to realize how good it was or truly appreciate it.
