Three new releases from today:
As discussed in their thread, the new Baroness sounds pretty good on the first couple of listens. Some new things/approaches in it and overall sounding quite inspired.
Then a couple of death metal monsters...I am not very familiar with Tomb Mold's previous output, although I did hear lots of praise for their 2019 album, Planetary Clairvoyance. This latest one is rather impressive. Kind of proggy, but very heavy throughout. Will of Whispers has some really cool clean guitars too and it's probably the song that stood out the most. The guitar player's side project is the doom/death band Dream Unending, and some of those moods/atmospherics show up here as well.
Finally, Fabricant's Drudge to the Thicket was quite the surprise. Same guys as the band Mefitis (which you should check out, if you don't know them), but the Voivod influence (among many other things) on that band's death metal gets more or less replaced by a tech-death approach. There's still plenty of weirdness and the playing is phenomenal. Lots to digest so, while it all seems interesting, I have to figure out how I feel about it
