A few recent releases (more than a bit of randomness):
Other than Horrendous, it's one listen for each, so these are just first impressions...(the Horrendous album is growing on me, by the way...it's a bit "messy" but there's some pretty amazing stuff on it)
Orbit Culture - Descent: Kinda modern and groovy, with some heavy, cinematic synths. Great vocals, both aggressive and more melodic (in an almost Heltfeld-ian way). Not generally my go-to, but I've enjoyed it
Horrendous: see above
Bottomless - The Banishing: Real nice classic doom from Italy. The singer from Messa, um, doesn't sing here but she plays bass. Vocals are not super-impressive, but they work ok and the songs move along great. Will definitely revisit.
Course of Fate - Somnium: classic prog metal here. Not mindblowing, but well done. And I thought the closer sounded quite good.
Asphodelus - Sculpting from Time: this sounds straight from early to mid-90s...that more..."ethereal"... gothic doom sound. Vocally it reminds me of Clouds-era Tiamat at times
Vision Master - Sceptre: This has a bit of an old school feel. They sure have some manic energy going. Like (very) early Blue Oyster Cult mixed with Voivod (?). Kinda cool, but need to revisit to see if it sticks.
Spanish Love Songs - No Joy: I enjoyed this one. It's this earnest, almost indie, at times new-wavish pop sound I need to be in the mood for, but first impression is really good. Sometimes they remind me of early Gaslight Anthem with less Springsteen influence.
Triple Kill - Blackened Dawn: Thrashy power? I found it to be a fun listen, will probably revisit.
