:lol  Stupid belligerent comments online which just ignore all logic and sense.

On an Oasis video :

" Oasis were shit and were one hit wonders "

reply : which one of Oasis' eight number one singles was their one hit ?

" ALL of them "

I've honestly only heard Wonderwall and Know What I Mean.

Were they really that big?

I mean, I know they have a cult following like Coldplay, but I've heard more Britney Spears than Oasis, and I hate Britney Spears. I just never thought of Oasis as being very big. Radiohead is big, but I just thought Oasis was a blip.

Oasis were huge in the UK at least. Their second album sold around 20 million copies worldwide. They never really broke the US.

They played Knebworth two days in a row which was 125,000 people a night. And Wembley Stadium 3 days on the trot which is about 90,000 people a night.

Quote
Oasis have had eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums, and won fifteen NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the Best Album of the Last 30 Years as voted by BBC Radio 2 listeners; they have been nominated for three Grammy Awards. By 2009, the band had sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide.[7] The band were listed in the Guinness World Records book in 2010 for “Longest Top 10 UK Chart Run by a Group” after an unprecedented run of 22 top 10 hits in the UK.[8] The band also holds the Guinness World Record for being the most successful act in the UK between the years 1995 and 2005, spending 765 weeks in the Top 75 singles and albums charts.[9][10]

Them foreigners don't mess around.  In the U.S., the reporter usually ignores them, or tries to, or makes some kind of exasperated face.  I like this approach better.  Also, it keeps looping as I write this, and it's making me laugh more and more.

Here in the US, I remember hearing Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, both of which were OK, but that's about it.  Except for all the stupid crap about the two brothers hating each other and saying and doing dumb shit all the time related to that.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

it's extremely rare that i will ever meet an actual oasis fan. they have a following, but it seems like the hatred for them is very, very intense to the point where those who enjoy oasis tend not to talk about it much. rock fans are the worst people for stuff like this.

I find that when people say they hate oasis - you dig a little and they don't mind the music or noel - they just can't stand Liam.

I was a massive oasis fan - and I can't fucking stand that prick.

Rock fans?  All people can be terrible.

the problem with rock fans is that they exemplify some of the worst aspects of herd mentality, toxic masculinity, and being completely full of shit. rock fans will say stuff like, "oasis is objectively bad", and you'll ask why that's true, and they'll say "they just are; you can just tell". it's the most obnoxious, irrational bullshit in the world. there isn't really any good rock or bad rock; it has always been a simplistic and reductionist, more "heavy" current of pop music (calling itself an opponent of it) appropriated from black people and exported around the world. people's like or dislike of rock music generally depends, more than anything, on whether their friends like it. so while it's one thing to say, "i enjoy the beatles and i do not enjoy oasis," it's a completely different thing to say, "oasis is garbage because i say so."

e.g. i knew a professional rock music critic, and at no point did he ever give off the slightest impression that there was anything to what he did. he just wrote stereotypical masculine bullshit masquerading as "reviews" of old rock albums, got paid, and then constantly complained about his life. it's like, you get paid to make up bullshit out of thin air, what are you complaining about?

tl;dr rock fans are a great example of why people are so terrible in general.

Now I want to repost a pic for Thanksgiving.

I think playing that generalization to your favor in the forum of a band that's known to take music into different directions and has fans that keep an extremely open mind when it comes to music, as browsing this forum will undoubtedly reveal, is not saying much for your generalization. That last sentence is probably one of the most ludicrous things I've ever read. If you want to find an example of why people are "terrible" you should focus more on the ones who think life doesn't go beyond Top 40 radio.
