Hmm...........I lasted just under a minute and I'm a big fan.  :-\    That's Ten by the numbers big time.   I was hoping for something similar to the debut/Name of the Rose which were essentially written together and released a few months apart (like Albion and this one) ,with the second album being the best and heaviest.

I have to have serious doubts after that.

I think what's happened here (once again) is that he's spread himself too thin with these two albums + Serpentine . In the past it's been Once and Future King , Catley solo albums etc..... and despite being a master songwriter you just can't keep it up in massive volume.  Karlsson has done the same thing at times.

Damn, that's disappointing.  Albion IMO was a really mature and well done album, this is just average.  I thought it would be in the same vein as the last one.  Bugger.  Hopefully it's not the best song or anything, as it's clearly filler.  The compression is really bad.

Aha, he did write that Serpentine song didn't he? I could tell it should have been sung by him.

That vocal at the beginning is Tate-like. Modern Tate that is. Shit. Poor song too. Not a good start for the album but I'll reserve judgement til I've heard it.

Don't judge them by this song, try this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lEFza29eMI&index=3&list=RD5uEvSRacdoE

or this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUjp-4ejk10&list=RD5uEvSRacdoE&index=19

Their first 3-4 albums were excellent

Did you check out Albion?

As Paul said, their first few were excellent, but some of the later stuff was decent too IMO.

Tolkki's new project - just for you Kade  ;D

https://youtu.be/jixSpQxG_o8

It sounds pretty very crappy but I suppose you can turn the sound down and check out the chick singing.

She's smokin'.

This sounds worse than Avalon and Allen/Lande.  :lol  Tolkki needs to seriously go away.  Again, the choruses here sound generic and recycled, and not to mention simplistic.

Frontiers is seriously going downhill fast in terms of their music quality output.

Primal Fear or Winger gotta get an album out quick.

New House of Lords

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaB8QDEFZxo

Those keys in the opening verse immediately reminded me of Robe era TEN.  I think it's alright , but at the risk of sounding like a broken record , it's pretty "by the numbers" for them.

I'm pretty sure that everything he does is Frontiers.

Yeah, it reminds me of the last one, but it's pretty solid.  The last album wasn't as good as the couple before but was quite a grower.  I think this will be okay.  And at least the production sounds a bit better than what has been coming out lately.  Sounds nice and beefy.

And yeah, Karlsson is a pretty loyal Frontiers man.

Not my favourite of the songs they've shown so far (Back in the Day is the standout so far for me), but it's ok. Video is kinda...... well at least the production quality of it is better than the usual Frontiers fare. That's something.
I'm still looking forward to the album though.

Ellen. :lol

Let the video play without watching and then had to check the vid to make sure you hadn't linked that Danger Danger song from the last album.  The opener I think, 'That's What I'm Talking About.'  Pretty much the same.  If this was the one I linked a couple of weeks ago, I didn't even notice that similarity at the time.

Ain't gonna bother with this though, I'll go back and listen to Revolve.

I just checked out the album on Spotify. I really like Back in the Day, and You and Me stands out as a good rocker, but the rest is a bit of a letdown. It's not as layered and polished as Lightning Strikes Twice. It's obviously an intentional choice to do something more stripped back and raw, but I don't think it fits them.

It's a shame, because Lightning Strikes Twice is easily one of the best melodic rock albums of the 2000s. Aside from the last track, that album is just perfect. I recall reading that Frontiers wanted them to do something similar to After the Rain. That obviously wasn't the case on this album. Not that I want them to just repeat the same thing over, but they're so good at that style.

I agree with all of this. It was an ok listen but it sounds unfinished and needs the same care and attention that was put into the last one.
