I went back to Primal Fear today after giving it a break for a week.  It blew me away again.  This is top 3 Primal Fear, maybe higher, this album is incredible and has AOTY quality written all over it.

It will be tough for it not to be my AOTY.

Nice, real nice.

New Gamma Ray song;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ2E_8V7-5w

Cheesy lyrics, but musically awesome and heavy as hell.  Quite ripping actually and a pleasant return to form.  Production sounds quite good too.

Yeah, I was looking at the box set, but it doesn't seem worth it, only an extra track, t-shirt and poster.

Also, I'm curious to know if they re-recorded Master of Confusion and Empire of the Undead.  Would be nice if they did.

Yeah true, I should have posted it in the power metal thread.

I guess this thread has just become one of those threads that any new music that doesn't have a big fanbase on DTF gets lumpped into.  :lol

Yup good call.
Well I was going to see Richie Sambora last night in Sydney, but after seeing his set lists, bad weather
lack of parking near the venue I bailed.

I didn't bother either but he did a small gig in Melbourne tonight with Orianthi at a local pub venue -  Testament also there this week.

I reckon they're over rated too - too cheesy , over produced and very same-ish.   I'd rather hear something from Leverage.

I think that was my problem too.  I love a bit of cheese, but the songs just reeked, even quite pompous like. (if that makes sense)

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/winger-to-release-better-days-comin-in-april/

One of the most misunderstood hard rock bands to come out of the '80s is returning with its first album in five years. WINGER — Kip Winger on vocals/bass, Reb Beach on guitar, John Roth on guitar and Rod Morgenstein on drums — will release "Better Days Comin'" in North America on April 22 via Frontiers Records. The effort is available for pre-order on Amazon.com in a standard and deluxe configuration. The deluxe edition comes in a glossy digipak and includes the bonus track "Another Beautiful Day" and a DVD including a "Making Of The Album" documentary as well as videos for the first single "Rat Race" and title track, "Better Days Comin'". An iTunes pre-order will be available soon.

WINGER has always been known for its incredible musicianship and the trend continues on "Better Days Comin'".

"On 'Better Days Comin'', we drew from our past to elaborate on our future," explains Kip Winger.

"The band is stronger than ever and very excited about the music on this record. We feel this album exemplifies the true sound of the band in every way."

From the opening riff of album opener "Midnight Driver Of A Love Machine" to the final outro lick of "Out Of This World", it is clear WINGER is back and better than ever. Hard-rocking songs like "Queen Babylon", progressive-rock movements like "Tin Soldier", and touching ballads like "Ever Wonder" show the band's diversity while always centering on great songs.

The debut single from "Better Days Comin'" is the adrenaline-fueled rocker "Rat Race" that showcases some of the band's best work of its 25-year career.

"Better Days Comin'" track listing:

01. Midnight Driver of a Love Machine
02. Queen Babylon
03. Rat Race
04. Better Days Comin'
05. Tin Soldier
06. Ever Wonder
07. So Long China
08. Storm In Me
09. Be Who You Are, Now
10. Another Beautiful Day (deluxe edition bonus track)
11. Out Of This World

Well very little disappoints you, but I'm a little harder to please. Based on the one little snippet though, I think I can guarantee I'll like at least one track.

Can't wait. No Winger album has disappointed me. Not even the underrated IV.

I finally saw them for the first time (two tours in Germany were canceled in the early 90s)
in a small club (not more than 200 people) after the release of Karma. One of the best live experiences I ever had. They are incredibly confident. A kind of presence that is very rare.

So long as it's more of a 'Winger' album than a 'Frontiers' album, I'm looking forward to it.

Judging by their previous couple of albums, and the snippet from this one, I don't think that's an issue.
I don't think it affects the established bands with their own sound so much.

Going back to the new Primal Fear for a second, I have to say that this is now officially my favorite PF disc.  I get the new car aspect, but I can say this with confidence.

This PF is awesome.  Born with a Broken Heart is the best ballad they've done without question.

The more I listen to this album, the more I'm thinking that this may be the case for me.  It's unbelievable.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I think they brilliant, love the first album to bits, in my top 5 AOR/MR albums of all time.
Second album good but not quite to the standard of the killer debut.
I've seen them live a couple of times when visiting Finland.

Leverage are great too, not sure what they are up too ATM, I think their on a break.

New Gotthard single and video

Very well done video and the song is being raved over by most I know who've heard it  , but for my taste it's way too safe.........heard it all before a million times.  I know it has to be accessible as a single but nothing about the song really grabs me.

I won't read to much into the album based on this though.

I slightly prefer Leverage but both are good. That first BF album was too cheesy but did grow on me, but I preferred the second.

Avalon II teaser:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIyw90HPjT4&feature=youtu.be&a

I know it's only 23 seconds, but already it's better than the first Avalon.

More stuff I hadn't checked out at https://avalonopera.com/  Damn... Timo and Yngvie must be on the same diet regimen!  With this cast, he better be able to put out something better than the first turd.  Then again, that had a pretty solid vocal cast too.
