I realize that Presto is technically an 80's album, but I loved the more organic sound on it. A nice refresher to the shlock that was the previous two albums.

It really is too bad that more Presto songs weren't played this century (The Pass and the title track were the only ones), but I get that they had so much material at that point and only so many spots in the set lists.  Chain Lightning and Available Light are two songs that never got played that damn well should have been.

Not sure how well Geddy could have handled Available Light from 2000 on.

Yep, it would have been a struggle.  I stand by my opinion that Cold Fire and Nobody's Hero never got played in the 21st century because they were too tough for him to pull off (he struggled with both in the 90's).

Huh, Cold Fire doesn’t seem like it would give him that many problems.

So the there are two songs that I actually like on Power Windows. Manhattan Project and Territories. They made my Rush Best Of The 80's Compilation. The other song from PW that made it is Marathon. It's not that I love the song (I don't), but seeing it live really gave it a whole new life.

Man, this is funny. I do actually really like those songs now, but for a long time I didn’t love Manhattan Project and Territories, and they were the two tracks on PW I might have been willing to skip over.

A lot to agree with here; Marathon and Manhattan Project are my two favorite songs from Power Windows, and both took on a whole new life live (the lasers!!).

Also, I agree with how great Available Light is, and with the guesses as to why it was never played.  That last part of what I guess the chorus harkened back to Hemispheres.  :)

I only got to see Rush 2 times. They came here, and they never came again for the Clockwork Angels and R40 Tour, I have no idea why, but I would've went easily to those shows, but they were also happening when I wasn't going to Concerts out of state as frequently as I do now. Or I would've seen them in Colorado.

The first Rush show I went to was the Snakes and Arrows tour. The setlist for my date was...

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/rush/2008/journal-pavilion-albuquerque-nm-2bd6244e.html

Red Barchetta
The Trees
Between The Wheels ----- Hearing these 3 songs back to back, for my first Rush show, was just ecstasy.

Subdivision - Tom Sawyer, I don't think I blinked my eyes at all. And getting to hear my all time favorite Rush song, Natural Science was pure joy, and then ending the main set with Tom Sawyer, the song that I liked from Rush since I was a wee boy, was just breathtaking to finally get to see played live, almost like a full circle moment of completeness.

And then A Passage to Bangkok, a song I liked from the first Rush album I bought, 2112, besides Twilight Zone (It's a good song, as it had that mystical feel, and atmosphere, and just reminds me of watching the old black and white Twilight Zone episodes, I just picture it in black and white) was hilarious to see Alex doing his Joint smoking gestures on stage  :lol

------------------------

My 2nd show was the Time Machine Tour...This was the setlist.

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/rush/2010/hard-rock-casino-albuquerque-presents-the-pavilion-albuquerque-nm-3d40543.html

I had no idea what the hell they were going to play, because this was the first show of the entire Time Machine Tour. So I had the honor of being able to witness Rush fuck up all the songs  :lol

Being the Time Machine tour, and them playing all of Moving Pictures, the first set consisted of mainly songs not played since forever, or even not played live at all.

The songs being:
Time Stand Still (first since 1994)
Presto (Live Debut)
Stick It Out (First since 1997)
Faithless (Live Debut)
BU2B (Live Debut)
Marathon (first sing 1990)

Getting to see this time:
The Camera Eye
Vital Signs
Closer to The Heart
La Villa Strangiato
Working Man

Working Man, was just amazing. I did not expect the reggae intro to that song. But I loved it, because it fits really good. And I am glad, and quite enjoy, being one of the lucky ones to see a live debut of an old song (which I find interesting and coincidental, it's a song that was released in the year I was born, I was almost 3 months old then  :omg:)

Overall, I would say, even though I wasn't fortunate to see their last 2 tours, I am still content that I got to see these 2 tours. Got to see a lot of songs I like by them, and more with their videos they played on the screens, like the South Park intro to Tom Sawyer on the Snakes and Arrows Tour.

Everyone has their moments, fan and band alike, but for me, with something like 350 shows under my belt, there are certain things I think you sort of have to see once:

- You need to see Gilnmour play Comfortably Numb live.
- You need to see McCartney play, if not "Yesterday" then at least one of the classic Beatle songs.
- You need to see Bruce do "Born To Run".
- You need to see the Stones do "Brown Sugar".
- You need to see Page/Plant do either "Kashmir" or "Stairway To Heaven"

And I very much put "You need to see Rush playing "Tom Sawyer"" on that list.

It's always fun to peruse back through the set lists over the years to see what was played and what wasn't, and for my own personal journey, it's still kind of funny that I never saw them play In the Mood. From 1974 through the Presto tour, I believe it was a staple on practically every tour, and then I first saw them on the Roll the Bones tour and the song was never played again.

It's interesting to see that, with relatively few exceptions, if a song didn't get played on its album's tour, it never got played.  Entre Nous and Presto seem to be the only exceptions (?).  It was also a little surprising to see how few songs from Vapor Trails got played live (only 6 of 13, 2 of which were fairly limited).

The Snakes and Arrows tour knocked a few songs off my own personal wish list (Digital Man, Entre Nous and Circumstances), and R40 knocked off a couple more (Jacob's Ladder and Losing It).

In terms of what I didn't get to see, I'd say Fly by Night, In the End, Cinderella Man, Cygnus Book II (more than just the Prelude) and Available Light are the ones I'm really bummed about.

I realize that Presto is technically an 80's album, but I loved the more organic sound on it. A nice refresher to the shlock that was the previous two albums.

AMEN!!  Definitely a bounce-back album.

:lol

I have no interest in the two that I bolded.  Would have liked to have seem some iteration of Zeppelin.  Saw the others (although the Stones was only because of a girlfriend, and I didn't really enjoy it).

I am not a man that tends to regret. I can count on one hand the things in my life that I regret and it prolly comes down to maybe 3 fingers. But dammit, I really regret not going to the final show in LA. We were there for the opening show in Tulsa (nice town BTW) and followed them through the Texas tour but I had convinced myself that they would put out another album and do an East, West, North, South tour.
We had the means to travel to LA and get good seats but we just didn't do it. Fuck!  :(

I really hope they work with MP and put up some new music. I really think MP can do Rush and NP justice.  :metal

I knew as soon as I typed that....  Witch Hunt was so ubiquitous that I forgot it wasn't played on the MP or Signals tours.  I also knew about Losing It and Faithless and saw both in person.  I didn't know about the other two.  They seem to have been rotated or dropped from the set list, so I never saw either song (which is fine with me in both cases).

I would love to see the 3 of them get together and do something, but not as Rush. In fact, with Geddy's yodeling vocals on the last couple of tours, I'd rather see him stick to playing bass and just do backing vocals, and expand to a 5-piece, with a lead vocalist and a keyboard player. IMO, that has the potential of being very interesting and not simply re-treading what they did with Rush.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
