General Music Discussion / Re: What album are you listening to v.9

High on Fire are pretty good.  I've lost track of them the last couple of albums but I sampled this new one yesterday and it was pretty damn good.  Blessed Black Wings was probably my fav of the older stuff.  Heavy as fuck.

Same here - I haven’t followed them too closely recently, but they’ve put out some good stuff. My favorite might be Death is this Communion, but Blessed is great too.

No wonder I lost track of them.  Only had the one album afterwards last year.

I picked it up last week but I actually haven't listened to it yet.

I have a feeling I didn't get around to that listen.  Couldn't tell you a thing about it.

The pain in my left testicle.

Is this the same issue you had as last time?  If not, might wanna get that checked out mate.

Tempus Fugit at #15 - Chris Squire's bass definitely pushes this song up the rankings for me. It's an extremely fun song to play.
Sound Chaser at #3 - This track holds such a special place in my heart. I'm pleasantly surprised to see someone rank it as highly as I did. Steve's guitar solo, and Patrick's keyboard solo, are, in my opinion, some of the best in Yes' discography.
I've Seen All Good People - One of the first Yes tracks I ever heard. Your Move has had me in tears on numerous occasions, especially when seeing it live. I think perhaps if I hadn't played it to death, it would be slightly higher up on my list.

I agree that live is where it's really going to be make or break.

As for the new album? It's gonna be loved by a big chunk of the fan base, will be hated by a smaller chunk of the fan base and the remainder will be somewhere in the middle. Just as is always the case, although there will probably be a bigger chunk that love it just because MP's back.

I agree on this 100%
What i can imagine is that the band will put extra effort on the album to have something that is very solid and not rush the process, to get it right.

On the live aspect, it will be interesting, since i don't see MP playing live with a click, and this is something that the band used almost all of the years with MM on the drums, to sync visuals, backing vocal tracks as well as patch changes on guitar (and maybe keys?).

Of course, James' voice is not the same in the years post-Astonishing era, and i'm pretty sure this will also have an impact on the live shows, especially if no backing tracks are used to "cover" some of the shortcomings on that front.

Maybe they'll downtune older stuff (like they did for I&W) to help James be more comfortable.
But definitely the bar is set high and the stakes are high for the band, to "keep" people who will come back due to MP rejoining.

I also think that MP has thought about various things during these years, as i recall he already had a "masterplan" when he proposed the break to DT back in 2010. So he will definitely have ideas on setlist, show presentation and various other ideas to engage with the fans.

I don’t think those people are paying for Spotify now. They just use the free subscription probably, which is why Spotify itself is not profitable.

Out of more than 600millions monthly users, 230millions are Premiums.
Spotify makes 13.2 billions out of the 28 of the global music sales.
It's not profitable because record companies are still those who make the most out of all of this.

Tempus Fugit is my favourite track off Drama, an album I hold very high in their discography (of the ones I've heard).

Actually Björn did an interview with Finnish Radio Rock station, and he said that the new album has already been recorded and it's waiting to be mixed and mastered. He said that the plan is to release it early next year.

I would assume that we get a new single this year though. :tup

Here is the link to the interview. Interview is in English, but I don't know if it will work outside of Finland.

Fantastic news. Thanks for this. 🙂

Edit: The interview was listenable here in the UK.

Awesome! I've been craving an NFO live fix!

I heard they recently signed a new deal with Napalm Records so hoping that means we'll get some album news this year.

Bump!

Had a pleasure of seeing the band live on the 16th at Olympia in Tampere. First time also seeing them live. Genuinely one of the best shows I've ever been to! :metal Almost didn't go since I had woken up to work at 4:30 in the morning. But boy am I glad that I went. The small club they were in, was quite packed and the vibe was amazing. The very next day, they played a sold out show in Helsinki.

Go see them live if you get a chance!
