This has been a few weeks in the works, but I am happy to announce the *new* When Prog and Power Unite.
www.wpapu.com
Along with a major graphical upgrade and the future capability to do more things if needed, the central reason for this change was podcasting. Now anyone can automatically get the shows sent to their phone by subscribing to our RSS feed using their favorite podcast program on their desktop or phone.
The feed URL is: https://wpapu.com/feed/podcast/
For those wishing to go through iTunes, the above feed may or may not work, but over the coming weeks we will be getting listed through iTunes and so there will no longer be any issues after that.
Although I love nothing more than those who are able to help make the live broadcast more interactive, I understand that many people who would enjoy the show can't necessarily listen during the hours we broadcast. This will allow everyone the chance to very easily follow the show on their own time.
Any feedback on the new site is appreciated, and if you have ever wanted to check us out I hope you subscribe!
-
Just downloaded on I-tunes and will put it on The Queen's I-Pod as well
-
Sweet. I always enjoy checking in when I have the time, but its been a long time. The new website looks great!
-
Yeah, nice to see the new site. I really can't tune in to the shows themselves due to time differences and my working schedule, but I think I'll have a vacation for a week somewhere in May so I'll join in for that one show if it will indeed take place (6th of May, I think).
Meanwhile, I'm downloading the podcast for 25.02. :tup
-
Looking good Nick! Now that I'm moving out into my own place I should have more time to listen in.
-
Thank you for the kind comments guys. It was a fair bit of work (with a lot of work updating things still to go), but I love how it looks now.
Those of you subscribed may have noticed this weekend, but along with the regular podcasts over the next dozen weeks or so, in between shows I'll be sending out an additional podcast of sorts. In order to somewhat get the interviews we've done some push on the new site I'll be going back to the beginning and sending one out a week, with an update on what the person or band has been up to since the interview. For many it'll be an easy skip, as many are somewhat outdated, but for the right artists I'm sure there will be some interesting stuff.
-
The yearly retrospective page, and the page for the 25 most recent reviews for new releases have been created. Anyone who wanted to check any of that out can do so now. Included are year end lists since 2008, some of which are Jeff and I, some are Mason and I, and one is just myself. Reviews date back to about mid-2011.
-
Show tonight! First show since the re-launch, and I'm very excited.
I do have to work until about 5:30, or perhaps 5:45, but should be no later than that. While I have made the precautions not to be late, in case something happens the show could start a few minutes late, just FYI.
-
Back in time, all is well. Show starts in 7 minutes!
-
Thanks for coming out tonight folks.

It is my privilege to introduce Joseph Tingle as a new writer for When Prog and Power Unite. Many know Joe as a past member here, PerpetualChange. He just did his first review, for the brand new album from long time rockers UFO. Check it out!
https://wpapu.com/2015-03-15/
-
Perp is a past member? I didn't know he left. Always good to hear from him.
I know Brent and Paul weren't that impressed with the new UFO, but I think it's pretty solid.
-
I don't think he left. I think he was banned
-

Ooops!

There won't be a show next week as I'll be in Pittsburgh. Going to see about doing a podcast to send out anyway for next week though.

I'll do my best to catch some of the show tonight.
-
I'll do my best to catch some of the show tonight.
Cool beans, anything in particular you'd like to hear?

I'd like you to say Hef's name between songs, slow and sexy.

Cool beans, anything in particular you'd like to hear?
I'd like you to say Hef's name between songs, slow and sexy.
That's what I was going to say.
Make your voice drop lower on "daddy". The chicks love that.
-
Great minds Hef, great minds........
-
And your minds too, apparently.
-
:lol
-
Hef, get in the chat room my brother!
-
This feeling is echoed by myself, Doc, and Joe.

Left after off an hour. Wifey time. Got to put in the time.

Apparently wifey time is over. :lol
-
Tim, some of us can multi task. Aka a smartphone lol
-
When do you multitask Joe? You leave every time your wife gets home.
-
Cooking, talking, watching TV shows on our DVR and chatting with you shlubs.
-
:lol Sorry to interrupt, but this week's podcast is up.
https://wpapu.com/2015-03-18/
-
:lol
I'll download it tonight.
-
I look forward to listening to the podcast... That Arcane album is quite good.
-
Heh, that album was my quarterly ProgArchives purchase. I have a habit of about every 3 months, looking there for their top albums of the year, and crossing albums I'd be interested in, that I don't have, ranked highly on their list. I've had pretty good success with that in the past when catching up.
In any case, the Known album I've enjoyed quite a bit, the Learned disc not quite as much.
-
Downloaded on my and the Queen's I-Pod.
-
OH!!! I loved Strattman – Caught Inside the Rain. I need to use up my I-Tunes cards!
-
While I record this week's podcast I'll be going live, probably around 4 or 5 eastern time and will stay live till another show at 7.
-
Going to be going live in about 30 minutes.
-
This should bounce up on Wednesday right when the show is usually starting.

Making their debut on the show tonight shall be Glass Hammer, Izz, Not a Good Sign, and Karnataka.
Also a ton more stuff that was only started getting some play last week. Tons of music flowing in lately, so this show is certified by Subway* as "Ear Fresh".
*Subway is in no way affiliated with When Bread and Meats Unite.

Damn. The new Izz iz out, huh?
April 7th, and about that...
Here is a little update about what the next few days/weeks are going to bring.
Later today my 2011 interview with Neal Morse will get posted/podcasted for anyone who wishes to revisit that. Monday will see Joe's new review posted. It will be for the sophomore album from Italian conglomerate Not a Good Sign. Wednesday will not only be a new show, but I'll also be speaking with Ian Jones of the English prog band Karnataka. That interview will get posted later in the week in lieu of a retrospective interview. And by that time my review of the new IZZ album, Everlasting Instant, should be ready as well.
-
Show tonight! New stuff from Steve Hackett and Exovex included. :D
-
Also, to celebrate the forthcoming Act IV from the Dear Hunter... an overdue triple shot from the first three Acts. Show in 3!
-
A BIG thank you to everyone who came out to chat tonight. It makes my life infinitely easier to talk and keep things entertaining and going well when things are that active. :tup

Last week saw the premier of a new track from English band Karnataka, and this week we’ve made Secrets of Angels our featured album, playing two shorter tracks, as well as the epic title track. This precedes an interview that will be posted later this week with bassist and songwriter Ian Jones. If you enjoy sharp pop-edged prog you should definitely be checking this out.
In addition, new band Exovex made their debut on the show, and got a fantastic reception from those chatting live. Steve Hackett’s new album Wolflight also got its first play. All this great stuff is already released and waiting for you. Notice anything we’ve missed during the year so far? Let us know in the comments so we can get it for the upcoming weeks.

Show tonight!
Our featured album this week will be Radio Silence, the debut from a new act, Exovex (Exovex / Dale Simmons). And making their debut on the show will be a Virginia based prog-metal outfit, Iris Divine. And of course, a ton of other recent prog goodies.
I'm also going to make an effort going forward with the podcasts to deliver better news in the write-ups. So if I mention a tour or a new video during the show, I will try and embed the video or put a link for the tour etc.
-
I've got some things to do after work so I'll be on after the first hour.

New podcast is up: https://wpapu.com/2015-04-15-podcast/
Our featured album this comes from American composer Dale Simmons, whose band Exovex is releasing the album Radio Silence. The album features several notable names, including Richard Barbieri and Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree. You can get information on the album and order it directly from the artist here.
Making their debut on the show this week was Virginia based prog-metallers Iris Divine. Earlier this year they released their second album, Karma Sown, and later this year they will be doing a small tour with former When Prog and Power Unite co-host Jeff Teets and the rest of MindMaze. You can check Iris Divine out on Facebook here, and the tour dates below.
Next up some news. I mentioned during the program that Arena has a new album coming out, The Unquiet Sky, and you can buy that directly from Arena here.
IZZ will be having a CD release party for Everlasting Instant in New Jersey on Sunday, April 19th, and you can get some info on that here. The show is hosted by the NJ ProgHouse, and they are a fantastic outfit. If you live in the Northeast US, you should check them out in the future, even if you can’t make this particular show.
Evergrey will be touring America again! You can get info on those shows, along with their dates worldwide here.
Coheed and Cambria are also touring! Live somewhere that no one ever comes to? Well, they are specifically hitting some of those places, so Dewey Beach, Delaware, be ready! Check out the full dates here.
Next up, a band I’ve long been a fan of, Secret Sphere, has re-recorded and is re-releasing their early album, A Time Never Come. You can get it through Amazon here.
That’s all for now, but keep your eyes and ears tuned, as I hope to have my review of the aforementioned IZZ album online this Friday.

New podcast available: https://wpapu.com/2015-04-22-podcast/
It’s not every week that a Swedish prog outfit puts out a new album, it can just seem that way sometimes! This time around the prolific band in question is The Tangent, and our featured album this week is their brand new offering, A Spark in the Aether. You can learn more about the band at their website here, and buy the album from Amazon.
There were also a lot of debuts on the show this week. New albums have been released by Gavin Harrison, Soul Secret, Parzival’s Eye. Although there is no new album to report, Lo-Fi Resistance also had their debut on the show.
I also learned this past week that Riverside will be performing shows outside of ProgPower USA. One of these shows will be at the Crossroads Theater in New Brunswick, NJ, and will be hosted by the NJ Proghouse. That same outfit and theater hosted Riverside during their first ever North American headlining appearance in 2008.

When Prog and Power Unite will be taking over the airwaves on Wednesday, April 29 from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/10pm-1am UTC. There won't be a featured album this week, but instead there shall be a featured festival! Between this broadcast and next I'll be heading to beautiful Gettysburg to take in RoSfest! However the show will not be strictly RoSfest artists, and we will be debuting FORGOTTEN SUNS and Ghost Ship Octavius on the show.
-
Show starts in 2 minutes!
-
Hey folks, no show tonight unfortunately. I am going to try and push out my review of RoSfest today, which is going to be an audio review and live tracks thrown in. I will also try to do a broadcast tomorrow and get the normal podcast out on Friday. Lots to do and little time to do it though, so some of this might get delayed.
-
Yeah, nice to see the new site. I really can't tune in to the shows themselves due to time differences and my working schedule, but I think I'll have a vacation for a week somewhere in May so I'll join in for that one show if it will indeed take place (6th of May, I think).
So I can finally attend the show now that I'm on that aforementioned vacation, and it's cancelled. So much for my luck. :lol

Dammit, very sorry about that. :(
Unfortunately no way I'm getting the review done, up and promoted today, so I will likely try and do the broadcast and podcast tomorrow, followed by the review on Saturday.

RoSfest 2015 review!
This review is quite a bit different than the norm. Instead of trying to write about over 15+ hours of music that was the RoSfest weekend, as well as the interactions between sets and at the after parties, I’ve decided to go ahead with an audio only review. You will hear a few thoughts on each set, and then for most bands a live song from their performance at RoSfest. Several acts will possibly be releasing their sets officially, and so studio tracks have been used in those instances. Below you can find links to the festival as well as all the bands. Sit back and re-live the weekend with me!
-
Show tonight!
When Prog and Power Unite will be taking over the airwaves on Wednesday, May 13 from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/10pm-1am UTC. As this is our first broadcast since RoSfest, you can expect some play and talk related to the festival, which brings us to our featured album. This week it will be the self titled debut album from British act Synaesthesia. We'll also be premiering a lot bands on the show, including Ted Leonard (solo), 3RDegree, Abel Ganz, Little Atlas, Nordic Giants, Sonus Umbra, and the Von Hertzen Brothers. A good festival always refreshes the playlist (and depletes the wallet) for your benefit!
-
Show in just over 1/2 hour. :D
-
https://wpapu.com/2015-05-13-podcast/

Long time contributor Mason Rouser will be in the studio to co-host, and has chosen a double feature for this week. The first feature is the debut release from Strattman, Lie of the Beholder. The second feature comes from Sonus Umbra, and their latest album, Winter Solstice. In addition to that Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Alpha Rev, and Odd Dimension will all be making their debut on the show tonight!

Sorry man. Can't make it tonight.

Sorry Nick, couldn't make it either. Haven't been sleeping well for the past two weeks so I need every minute of rest I can get.

No worries guys, hope you enjoy the podcast if you have the chance to listen.
Incidentally: https://wpapu.com/episode-303-featuring-leprous/

-
A very special When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, June 10, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/10pm-1am UTC. This week, instead of featuring an album, we're going to go back 10 years and take a look at what I consider to be arguably the best year for prog in the new millennium, 2005. And of course some new music as well!
Been playing so much Muse the last few weeks I didn't want to make that the easy feature this week, and so I thought back to 2005. There are a half dozen or so albums released that year that would likely be in my top 50, and are still my favorite from their respective artist. Really looking forward to this.
-
Seems you forgot to change the date though. ;)

Forgot to post this yesterday, but this week's podcast is online: https://wpapu.com/episode-304-featuring-the-prog-of-2005/
When Prog and Power Unite's (www.wpapu.com) 304th episode from June 10th is now available! This special episode replaced the featured album with a featured year. Most of the episode is spent looking back at the prog of 2005, but there is of course some great new music as well!
In other news, this coming Wednesday the show will go on as usual, however I will be away the evening of the 24th. I will be looking to record the podcast either Monday or Tuesday (22nd or 23rd), and wanted to know before I finalize that decision if any of the regulars had a preference.
-
I am driving home from Montreal on the 22nd but I should be home by then.

-
I was honestly really late in getting my final playlist together this week, but a little bit of a theme has come together. A handful of some nice long prog songs, and a good number of shorter, but quite heavy songs.
-
Can't tonight Nick. I will download as soon as you have it up.

I am driving home from Montreal on the 22nd but I should be home by then.

An early reminder about tomorrow's show, as I'm hoping to make it a really good one. Lots has happened in the two weeks I was away, and I'll be including snippets from an interview with Mike LePond during the show as well. Not thrilled to be back from vacation, but happy to be back to this. Hopefully see you guys tomorrow night!

To be honest, I planned on featuring Spock's Beard, but the Sunday night show just featured it, so I wanted to space it out some more. As of right now I definitely prefer Spock's however.

Why you no post set lists anymore??
Sorry, I've been posting my posts from elsewhere, figuring if people click on the link they will immediately see the setlists. I can start posting them again for you if you wish though.
As for tonight's show, setting that up now, but the featured album will go with some news. I currently have a review of the new Queensryche in the editing process, and Condition Human will be our featured album.
That's a great tune and Nick and I got to see live!
They also just changed their band name.
Yeah, the name change is why I played it, talked about that on air. Was going to interview the guitarist Joey at some point prior to the next album, but will reach out to him sooner now to try and get people on board with the "new" band.

Ep. #319 featuring Queensryche
QueensrycheOur featured album this week comes from progressive metal forefathers Queensryche! Their new album Condition Human is their second featuring new vocalist Todd la Torre, and an exciting new chapter in the band’s career. I have a full review in the works, so I won’t say too much more about it here, but if you like what you heard on the show feel free to pick up the album here.
There was a couple of new album announcements during the show, such as Reign of Darkness from Circle II Circle, due out on October 16th and available here, and Mystery‘s Delusion Rain, out November 15th and available here. And videos from both bands are available below. Also, a few shows ago I shared the Roll the Bones audio from Rush‘s upcoming R40 live concert. They have since put out the video for that song as well, and it can also be viewed below.
I also noted the new singers being announced for the next Avantasia album, and you can continue to follow those developments at their website here. I also had some wonderful Redemption news for everyone regarding their new album The Art of Loss, due out in 2016. You can check that out and continue to receive updates at their facebook page here.

Ep. #320 featuring The Winery Dogs
The Winery DogsThis week we are taking a deep look into an album that may not be prog or power, but has members rooted in both. The Winery Dogs consist of Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, and Richie Kotzen, and it’s the straight forward rock of that last member that shines through the most on their new album, Hot Streak. Defying all prog standards, the album is 13 tracks deep, and not a single one even hits the seven minute mark! If you’re looking to step outside the prog-rock world, or need a breather from heavy metal, this is going to be a great cure to what ails you! You can grab the album here.
There were two big opportunities opened up this week to support some fantastic artists. First is the young band based in the U.K., Kyros. They were formally known as Synaesthesia, and are selling an EP to help fund the production of their first album as Kyros. You can pick up the Beta EP here. Next we have the vocalist for Threshold and Headspace, Damian Wilson, who is crowd funding a pair of albums. The first is an album with Adam Wakeman, and the second is a star-studded solo album. They are being funded by a single kickstarter here.
I played a song during the set from the forthcoming Anathema live album, A Sort of Homecoming, and you can check out the video of that song below.
Finally, I mentioned that the family at ProgRock.com is getting a little bigger, and that starting this Monday at 7pm Central, 1am Universal, Mohsen is going to be doing a two-hour show called Music Unframed. You can follow the show by liking the recently started facebook page here.

Usually I construct the show late Tuesday or early Wednesday, but have been dealing with some unfortunate crap today and am only getting around to it now. That said I know the feature is Coheed and Cambria, and that there will be a show for ya'll, and I hope to see some of you in the chat. :)
-
Can't be there unfortunately, work tomorrow and all that.
I'll tune in at November 4th though, two weeks from now on! Well, if there's a show that day, of course.
-
Shit's been real busy around here lately for me - parent/teacher interviews tonight, the solid travel for the next 2-3 weeks. Doubt I'll be able to tune in until at least mid Nov. :sadpanda:

Hope you guys well in your work and travel, and look forward to seeing you guys again for the show soon. :)
As far as the schedule works out, November 4th there will be a show as far as I know. November 11th there is a 90% chance of there being a show. I have to take my mother for some surgery that day, and it should in no way affect my evening, but you never know.
November 18th however there shall be no show, as I'll be on a boat.

Yeah, I'm super psyched, still can't believe that my buddy won the cabin deal within a few weeks of my deciding I couldn't go. You obviously know how amazing the last cruise was, and this is back on the same ship, so I am excited.
-
Damn I'm super jealous. How did your friend win that?
-
There was a contest we both entered, and they did drawings every week. Grand prize was a free cabin, runner up prizes were 70% off a cabin of your choice. He won the latter. With three people on an inside stateroom the result is $225 per person for the cruise, and you can't beat that.

Show tonight!
When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, October 28th, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/10pm-1am UTC.
We are going to try out a special feature tonight, and instead of featuring an album, we're going to feature an artist, namely Arjen Anthony Lucassen, and his assorted works including Ayreon, Star. One, Stream of Passion, Guilt Machine, his solo album, and The Gentle Storm. There will be more commentary from me than usual about Arjen and his effect on me and what I think he's meant to the prog community at large.
Australian act TERAMAZE will be making their debut on the program tonight, a likely preview of next week's featured album, and we also have some new live stuff from Pagan's Mind.
-
Damn, I'll miss the show about Arjen and next week when I attend there will be probably some mediocre band featured. :lol
-
Well, there always is the podcast. :D
Not that I wouldn't feature Teramaze next week anyway, but the reason I am pencilling them in for that week, as has just is confirmed, is that I'll be doing an interview with their guitarist and will have that up over the weekend.
-
Show in 10 minutes!

No show for me tonight. Lisa and I are going to diner celebrating 21 year of her putting up with me.

Excited to finally be unveiling this, as Joe, Mason, and myself had a fun time with this and I like the results.
https://wpapu.com/ep-324-november-music-mixer/
Hello everyone, a very special When Prog and Power Unite podcast went live this morning. It's called the November Music Mixer, and instead of being primarily music, it features all three contributors to the show talking about various musical topics.
On the docket for this debut mixer is the new album news and PR campaign from Dream Theater, who appear to be going all out on the new album and tour. We talk about the expected return to heavier material from Swedish band Pain of Salvation. We also discuss the recent appearance of Ghost B.C on The Late Show with Steven Colbert, as well as the latest album from Trivium, Silence in the Snow. Finally we went back to talk about the huge new album from Iron Maiden, and to discuss some bad concert experiences.
-
Show tonight! The feature is... Vanden Plas!
-
Okay folks, a few things before I pack up for Miami tomorrow. The latest show is of course online, and I'll have the text/setlist at the end of this post.
If you get a chance please check out the music mixer podcast: https://wpapu.com/ep-324-november-music-mixer/
It's a cool new thing and I'd love some feedback on it for future mixers.
No show next week, back on the 18th.
Cheers!
This week on the program we head over to Germany for our feature, and take a look at a very long-lasting prog-metal lineup in the band Vanden Plas. Their new album is Chronicles of the Immortals: Netherworld 2, and in my humble opinion is one of those rare sequels that goes above and beyond the hype created by the original. In the year and a half since the original Netherworld it makes sense that not much in the core sound has changed, but every single song on the new album delivers a very strong punch, which is not something I would have said about the original. You can buy the new album here.
We also started off the show tonight with a track from the soon to be released Flying Colors live album, Second Flight. You can order that here.
As I mentioned during the show, there will be no live show or podcast next week, as I will be taking to the high seas on Cruise to the Edge. If the time is available post-cruise you can expect a review similar to what I did for RoSfest earlier this year, which was a very popular download. See you all in two weeks!

Show tonight!
When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, November 25th, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/11pm-2am UTC.
Tonight we will be featuring the new album from Subsignal, The Beacons of Somewhere Sometime. We also have a brand new song from Jolly and lots of other material inspired by Cruise to the Edge, including debuits from Airbag, Lifesigns, Casey McPherson, Messenger - Band, and Bad Dreams. There will also be a full Cruise review coming (hopefully) this weekend.
We've also got a new song from Spock's Beard, and of course, some live material from the new RUSH R40 set!
-
Making stuffing for tomorrow Nick. Sorry!
-
So, a couple of updates and exciting things ahead. First off, the last podcast for everyone:
https://wpapu.com/ep-326-featuring-subsignal/
After a week off for vacation the show returns featuring a fantastic band from Germany, Subsignal. They’ve recently released The Beacons of Somewhere Sometime, their 4th studio effort. The band continues to distance themselves from their precursor of sorts, Sieges Even, and continues down a slightly more atmospheric sound as time moves along.
We also played the brand new Jolly song Ava, from their forthcoming album Family. The band is doing a newer form of crowdfunding called Patreon, and you can check out their campaign here. We will be discussing this new format on our forthcoming Music Mixer in December. Other definite topics will include the new Steven Wilson EP, 4 1/2, and the tough choice Transatlantic will face on future tours. Check out the video for Ava below.
Then there is the many bands that made their debut on the program tonight thanks to Cruise to the Edge. If you like what you heard tonight, please visit the online homes of Airbag, Bad Dreams, Messenger, Casey McPherson, and Lifesigns.
We also played the new track from Spock’s Beard, Falling For Forever. The song comes from the new compilation, The First Twenty Years. It’s not often I tell people not to buy something, but if you’re already a Spock’s Beard fan, go ahead and skip this one. Compilations mixed with original material are the devil, and buying them only assures that we’ll see more of it.
A small Canadian trio named Rush also had a recent live released, with R40 Live. Still on the fence about this release, which can be found here? Well watch this video and then throw your money at the screen already.
To my American listeners, have a happy Thanksgiving, and to everyone else, a fantastic week, and thank you!

And now onto what's upcoming. Next up is the regular show this Wednesday. Then, on Friday my review for Cruise to the Edge will finally be finished. Much like with RoSfest, this will be an audio only review. Then Sunday the December edition of the music mixer will go online. A lot of good topics again this month, and so I'm really looking forward to doing that.
In the more distant future, the year end lists from Mason, Joe, and myself will be posted sometime mid to late December. In addition I really like Mason's idea for doing the audio this year. We'll be doing the audio portion together as opposed to doing separate audio for each of our lists.
Finally, as always, there will be an extended year end show exclusive to 2015 material. This will either be Dec. 30 or Jan. 6. Before I set the date I was hoping for some input from regulars on if there was any preference.
-
I'm not really a regular, but Jan. 6 works better for me since Dec. 31 is a working day in Russia.
-

January 7th isn't?
Either date is probably fine by me. Hard to tell this far in advance.
-
I'm not really a regular, but Jan. 6 works better for me since Dec. 31 is a working day in Russia.
January 7th isn't?
No, it isn't. January 7th is actually Christmas here.
We usually tend to get ~10 days long holidays starting with January 1st; for example, the first official working day in 2015 was January 12th, and for 2016 it'll be January 11th.

Meanwhile, in Russia. :lol

Jingle.CalendarFail
January 6th is a Wednesday. :p
And saying January 7th is Christmas there is partially accurate. The major Christian denomination in Russia is Orthodox, and that's when Orthodox Christmas is. In my area there are quite a few Orthodox churches and so you will see many families here celebrate around that time. In any case it's not really Russian Christmas, as much as it is Orthodox Christmas.
I'll wait a week or so before making a decision, so if anyone else has a preference just speak up.
-
Jingle.CalendarFail
Nick-gobaltimezones-fail.
Ruslan's insinuation that Dec 31st is a working day means (for him) a show on Dec 30th (for us) wouldn't work as he can't make through the night, or early in the morning on the 31st. Ergo, January 7th (for him) is the important date in question.
:dammitnick:
-
Hey, I never said Jan 7th is a "Russian Christmas". :lol
But yeah, the show is at Wednesday night for my timezone so it's indeed Thursday that matters.
-
#AllThursdaysMatter
Wait... what? :D
In any case, show tonight featuring Sonus Umbra!

Jingle. Cannot. Attend.
Sorry - other commitments tonight.

If you are having Steven Wilson over for dinner, I understand.

So, here is the last major podcast: https://wpapu.com/ep-327-featuring-sonus-umbra/
This week we are headed to the great central hub of the United States for our featured album from Chicagoland area band Sonus Umbra. This year they had a successful crowd funding campaign to get Beyond the Panopticon off the ground, and now have planned a few live shows alongside Might Could in 2016.
01/08 – Milwaukee, WI @ Shank Hall
01/09 – Chicago, IL @ The Wire
01/16 – Baltimore, MD @ Orion Sound Studios
01/17 – Dunellen, NJ @ Roxy & Duke’s
To keep up with the band and get info on these and any few shows please visit them online here. And you can buy the new album directly from them here.
I mentioned early on in the episode that Gary Wehrkamp of Shadow Gallery, and his family, have been displaced by a fire that destroyed their home, and Gary’s music studio. This horrendous setback to his life and music will take a long time to recover from, and the community around him are organizing to help. I’m hoping that music fans everywhere might be able to chip in as well. There is a benefit event being held in Stroudsburg, PA, that you can find info for here. In addition, a charity for which the Wehrkamp family has supported for many years has set up a link for direct financial contributions, and that can be found here. Thank you in advance for any help you give these wonderful people!
Also on the show tonight we had some news on a new IQ live album, Live on the Road of Bones. You can buy that directly from the band here.
We also caught up on something that slipped through the cracks earlier in the year, Beyond the Red Mirror from Blind Guardian. You can pick up that disc here.

And I'm not going to post the text, as it's mainly links, but here is my review of Cruise to the Edge: https://wpapu.com/review-cruise-to-the-edge-2015/
---
We recorded the last music mixer last night, and I will edit tonight, so that's still on schedule for Sunday.

Sonus Umbra is a fun one. Listening to your Cruise to the Edge review now- I'm so jealous :lol

As well you should be! That said, there will be another, likely March 2017, and if you can swing it, I'm already recommending it. No idea if I'll even be able to go, but if you can, do it!
-
So, today I've posted a new review from a new contributor specializing in obscure bands, which will be a great help. Her first piece was on an album that I actually have been really enjoying. I know Mason would say I'm always too kind, and that maybe I am influenced by it being a young band with their first album, but I'd say her B grade might be a tad on the safe side. The band is Turbulence and the album is Disequilibrium, and we'll be playing music from them over the next few weeks.
The review is here: https://wpapu.com/review-turbulence-disequilibrium/
The next bit of news regards the Music Mixer. We've released December's version and I'm really enjoying these, and really look forward to working on them in the new year. And with that in mind, I'm happy to announce that former co-host and guitarist for MindMaze, Jeff Teets will be joining Mason, Joe, and I in January to be the first guest in the Music Mixer series.
The one we just did is here: https://wpapu.com/ep-328-december-music-mixer/
Finally, at tomorrow's show I hope to announce the date for the big year end show, and finalize the times for that. :D
-
Will check out that album.
Listening to the Music Mixer now.

Cool, let me know what you think, been wanting some quality feedback on that. :)
-
Well, I kinda got bored with the Jolly and Steven Wilson talk to tell you the truth. Nothing against you/Mason/Joe (though, I was expecting King! :lol), just the topic of conversation wasn't too interesting for this cochise. Then I had a work call to take.
I'll try to get back to it tomorrow or Thursday, as TA and Cruise to the Edge are more interesting to me.
-
It's been too damn busy at work for me to even check in. One more month, please!!!!!
-

You've got a little less than that, you should be at the year end shows!
Wait, did I say shows? Why yes I did.
I was working on my year end list for the site last night, and it kinda dawned on me that an extended 4 hour show probably wouldn't be enough this year. Frankly it usually isn't enough in past years as I always run past the 4 hour mark. So then I figured I'd do a 5 hour show. And, well, if I've gone that far, why not just split it up over 2 normal shows?
So that's what I'm doing. Part 1 will be on December 30, and part 2 will be on January 6.
Also, show tonight! Feature is Blind Guardian AND we'll be GIVING AWAY A FREE KYROS EP!
-
I like the idea of two year end shows. Committing to a single 4 hour was tough last couple of years, so two shows feels a lot better. You want we should give you some 2015 gems of songs/bands that maybe were off your radar?
-
Well, I thought the magic of the end-of-the-year show was that it's longer than usual, but yeah, 5 hours is an overkill if you ask me.
Too bad I probably won't make it there at 30th December. There might be a way if by some miracle our company leaders will non-officially decide no one should work at 31st (that happened before in 2012 I think, but it was Monday, so there's that), so I guess I'll have to wait and see. :tup
-
Yeah, it would be nice to keep it all in one day, but frankly 5+ hours of show is longer than *I* want to listen to myself. :lol

Yeah, I haven't started the process of making those sets yet, but you of course know how to get a hold of me, so send away.
Not final yet, but I've begun work on the 2016 intros.

Nick, I just subscribed to the podcasts so I can listen when I get a chance. I can never make it for the live show, but I definitely want to check out the shows.

Much appreciated! :tup
As I've said before, I'm not one for podcasts myself, but a ton of other people are, and I definitely see their practicality now. Going on average numbers, I'd say that there are 5 people podcasting the show for every 1 live listener.
That said... live show in 1 hour!

Latest show is up, the EP I'm giving away is great, so try to win it!
https://wpapu.com/ep-329-featuring-blind-guardian/
As 2015 winds down to a close I’ve taken a look back at an album I missed earlier in the year, Blind Guardian‘s Beyond the Red Mirror. We talked a good bit about this album in our recent Music Mixer podcast, which can be found here. The exciting thing for the band and this release is that they’ve finally returned to North America to support the album, and will be making at least one appearance in 2016 thanks to a headlining gig at the ProgPower USA festival in September. You can purchase yourself a copy of the new album here.
Now, the fun news, you can win yourself a free CD! As I talked about numerous times during the show, all you have to do is leave a comment here and you will be entered for the prize, which is the new Beta EP from the band Kyros. The winner will be drawn at the start of next week’s show, and announced then. Good luck to everyone! And for those who don’t win, please consider supporting the band at their web shop here.
There was also a ton of music news this week. One bit, which was released last month, but I forgot to post was that Queensryche will be hitting the road to support Condition Human. Check out their tour page here to see if they are coming near you. Much later in the year Marillion will be hitting the road, and you can get their dates in the educational video below!
Then of course we had a few album announcements for the new year. First comes from Rikard Sjoblum of Gungfly and Beardfish, who is set to release his first proper solo album in the new year. It’s called The Unbendable Sleep, and you can read more about it here. Next, there is a vague plan for a new Bruce Dickinson solo album, and you can read more about that here. Finally, Pyramid Theorem has new stuff in the works, and you can check out their new video below.
Oh, and let us not forget Serenity, who will be releasing Codex Atlanticus on January 29th! Their new video is available as well!
Finally, the band Turbulence made their debut on the show tonight, and there is a review of their album Disequilibrium available on this very site, at this very moment! You can check that out here.
Did I just say finally? What I meant to say is we’re almost done here. In a bit of show related news, our yearly epic length year-end wrap-up show this year is being broken down into two normal length shows. These are always some of the most fun all year, so hopefully some podcasters can join us in chat as we look back on another fantastic year in music. The shows will be on December 30th and January 6th. Talk to you all again next week!

Tonight we're featuring Iris Divine! Was prepping for the year end list/podcast and figured it might be nice to feature them prior to that coming out this weekend. :)
Then 1 more normal show next week, and then the following two will be the year end wrap ups.

Last night's show: https://wpapu.com/ep-330-featuring-iris-divine/
Only one more normal show left this year! Yes, we’re winding down here in 2015, and of course it’s time for a bit of reflection. Over the course of the year we’ve been able to feature a lot of fantastic albums, but there are some that fell through the cracks. Karma Sown from Iris Divine is certainly one of those albums. The Virginia based band originally released the disc themselves in December of 2014, but saw it get re-released on Sensory Records at the end of March.
I must say that Sensory Records has an amazing history of finding talented bands and helping launch their careers, examples being Circus Maximus, Redemption, and Haken. Iris Divine have laid the foundation for a similar rise within the genre. You can cut in on the action and get your copy of Karma Sown right here.
Next up, the big chunk of new news for the week, is that pre-orders for The Unbendable Sleep, the new Rikard Sjoblum solo album, are up, and you can order it directly from Rikard here. As a bonus, all orders before December 24 (up to 100), that are ordered from Rikard will come with his first solo CD Cyklonmannen. In addition, there is a nice teaser video which can be viewed below!
That’s it for music news, but there was also a show announcement I’m hoping you fine folks can help with. In order to get further established on iTunes, please visit the shows page here, and leave a 5-star review for us! Your help is always appreciated! Don’t forget to stay tuned to the site/podcatcher this weekend for the Best of 2015 podcast!

The year end list is UP!
https://wpapu.com/the-best-of-2015/
Really happy to be able to do the list audio in a discussion format. Really not happy that Joe and Mason refuse to accept Arjen as their lord and savior.
-
I always enjoy reading these lists. I'll have to listen to the discussion about them later, but I can tell right away that there are some albums I'm going to need to try again, as well as new stuff. That Beardfish album didn't grab me after a couple listens, but I ought to give it another try. Joe's list has the most albums/artists I've not heard, so that will need to be remedied (checking out Vennart right now).
Nice to see the Marco Minnemann love. He obviously deserves it, as does The Aristocrats's album.
-
Marco also did a great job on Amadeus Awad album this year.
-
Will try to get to this on the weekend. Is Joe = Tingle? Haven't heard of a single one of his albums. A few on your list, Nick, would crack my top 10, and still others were disappointments (Evovex... don't get the love for this).

For what it's worth, Joe had the most albums I hadn't heard yet either! He'll be contributing a few tracks to the year end so they'll be included.
As for Marco, yeah, that was really cool he came together like that. We all submitted our lists and didn't adjust it to be like that. It was one thing for Mason and I to have a few things together last year, but it speaks volumes about Marco that we all picked him this year, and none of us really gave strong consideration to anyone else.
Marco also did a great job on Amadeus Awad album this year.
I've heard tracks from that, but never got the full album. Doesn't surprise me in the least.

Joseph Tingle, yessir.
Exovex, I can see why some people may not find it exciting, but I really found it well done, and look forward to seeing if the next one can keep up.

Show tonight!
Gonna be a neat one. Playing stuff from pre-2000 only. Featuring Royal Hunt's Paradox album to help promote their new crowd funding campaign... and that's it for promotion.
Lots of classic prog and metal, with a lot from bands I don't really play too much of. Going to be a fun show.
-
Damn... would've liked to have listened - but was at TSO. Will try to catch the podcast.
-
So I worked my ass off again this full weekend as I did the previous three weekends too, but instead for signing up for OT this Sunday I said to my boss "screw it, don't sign me up for OT this last Sunday, for I'm not gonna show up at 31st Dec because I need to prepare for New Year celebrations and all that" and he agreed, so I'll definitely be there on the show at 30th Dec.
The sacrifices I make for the WPAPU show. :lol

Awesome! Glad to have you! I actually start work tonight on the 6 hour set for the next two weeks.
Due to the holiday I missed this bit, so here is last week's show: https://wpapu.com/ep-331-featuring-royal-hunt/
Last week during the broadcast I started to ween off of new music and 2015 material, and this week it’s been severed completely. In preparation for the 2015 wrap-up shows which will happen over the next two weeks, this week’s show featured only material from before 2000, with much of it from the 1970s or 1980s. One notable exception was the featured album, 1997’s Paradox from Royal Hunt. This particular album was performed in full when the band played ProgPower USA this past September, and will be part of a live release the band is currently crowdfunding. You can be a part of that campaign here. Oh, and a quick correction from my last bit of jibber jabber in the podcast, I meant to say “Silent Scream” was the last song we were playing for the night, and incorrectly said it was the final track on the album. Forgive me people of the internet!
And that’s it for the musical promotion this week folks! No new artists to check out, no other albums I’m asking you to buy, but just a nice look back at the older side of prog and traditional metal!
All that changes over the next few weeks however, as on Wednesday, December 30th, and January 6th the shows will be dedicated to only 2015 material. In addition, we’ve recorded a discussion podcast to go along with the year-end list of the main show contributors. Please check that out here if you haven’t already!
See you next week when we take on 2015!

Dear lord.
I'm skipping the favorite epics of the year, trying to pick mostly shorter songs, and still... 6 hours will not be enough...
So, it looks like we'll be starting both nights an hour early.

December 30, 5-9pm EST
January 6, 5-9pm EST

Holy shit! I'll try to be there for the whole thing, but no promises. I've already prepped mrs.jingle that this is what I'm doing for the next two Wednesdays.
-
Shit, I actually misjudged the time. I thought 5 P.M. EST equals midnight in Moscow, but apparently it equals 1 A.M. there. Seeing how I've been waking up for more than two weeks at 5 A.M. everyday this is going to be tough. :lol
Still, I'm excited for the show. Maybe I should go and sleep for a few hours before it begins. Hopefully the alarm will work alright.
-
I know it's not easy for people to listen and chat live, and I really do appreciate those of you who are able to make it, even if it's only for a little bit.
This kicks off in just about 2.5 hours, and I'm very much looking forward to it!
-
15 minutes! Hopefully a few folks, especially the Euros, can take advantage of the early start. :D
-
The first half of the wrap-up is online: https://wpapu.com/ep-322-2015-wrap-up-part-one/
Here it is, the big one! Or at least the first part of it. A nice long look back at the amazing year in music that was 2015. The original plan called for a 4 or 5 hour extended show. Then I decided to do a full 6 hours over two weeks. Finally, in order to truly include everything I had wanted, and that others had submitted, I decided to extend both year-end shows to four hours. This episode runs over by about 5 minutes, and I feel next week could certainly go longer! So much amazing music to review.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the show possible over the year. From the bands making the beautiful music, to the promoters who help get it to my ears, to the station and everyone involved there that give me a platform to further promote the music. Then of course is all the wonderful people listening live, chatting, and podcasting to give me the drive and the market for the show. And of course a special thank you to all those who came out tonight to chat to put the special into this extra special show.
Next week (Jan. 6) we’ll continue the 2015 wrap-up fun, and then be back to the usual grind, but not before our January Music Mixer goes live on Saturday, January 9th. Jeff Teets from MindMaze will be our first guest in the Music Mixer series, and we’ll be covering topics including Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Avantasia, crowdfunding rewards, concept albums, and comeback albums.

Bummer that I missed C&C in the first few songs.
'twas most excellent, and I've begun my recruitment for the show to further it's global expansion.

I thought Iron Maiden song opened the show?
Yeah, listened to the podcast and indeed, If Eternity Should Fall was the first track. Nick screwed up the recap too. :lol

And I'm obviously in! It's Christmas Eve for me so I'm not sure the nap will be available, but I'll do my best when the time comes. So looking forward to this!

Hah, glad you reminded me of that. I actually work with a Ukranian Orthodox guy, so I gotta call him tomorrow and wish him a merry Christmas.

It starts in about 2h and 10 min? I wanted to tune in last week but I wasn't sure about the time due to difference in time zones. Actually, I heard first song but didn't know show started, I learned that day later when I downloaded podcast :lol

Hah, I wish I could say that was on purpose, but was clearly a Freudian slip.
New episode is obviously up: https://wpapu.com/ep-2015-wrap-up-part-two/
Here is the second part of our 2015 coverage, which brings a nice close to another fantastic year in music! I would argue that 2015 was a strong year for the genre’s that this show follows, however it lacked a true masterpiece at the top. I would argue my favorite albums of 2015 did not equal the best albums of several previous years. However, once you moved out of that very high bracket, the amount of high quality albums just came through in droves. Picking a top 10 this year, and choosing what bands would not be included was tougher than ever. It’s in that spirit, with help from contributors and listeners, that the year end wrap-up shows were split between two weeks, extended, and both ran over their original run time. Thanks to Mason, Joe, Chad, and Ruslan, we’ve presented a more complete overview of the past year. So hopefully you heard some tunes you already loved, and a few more you will come to love.
Early in the next year, there will be a chance to win another CD, something we tried late this past year. I’m also very excited to continue the Music Mixer series, and start bringing in guests to help out with them. The first of those guests will be Jeff Teets of MindMaze, and that should be available on Saturday, January 9th. Do you have anything you like about the show? Anything you don’t like? Any ideas for the new year? Feel free to let us know in the comments here, or on Facebook. Thanks, and talk to everyone throughout 2016!

Guess my three block's more than made up for the fact it had been a long time since I had one.

This evening we recorded the January Music Mixer, and really enjoyed having the guest in on it. It's all edited and ready to go for launch at 1pm on Saturday.
I won't be around till later on, so feel free to visit the site for it at any point after 1pm EST.
Guest was, as previously announced, Jeff Teets of MindMaze, and topics were Avantasia, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, concept albums, crowdfunding rewards, and comeback albums.
-
Alright, not only is the new Music Mixer online: https://wpapu.com/ep-334-january-music-mixer-featuring-jeff-teets-of-mindmaze/
But, you'll notice when you go to the site, a much needed update has been made to the looks. :D
-
So, I have plenty of random tracks to play this coming week, but no theme or feature. Probably will be something old and random. Any suggestions or requests?
-
Show tonight! And for the record, I posted this before the new Headspace song was released, which works really well.
When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, January 13th, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/11pm-2am UTC!
This will be the first "normal" show of 2016, and with major releases still a week or two away, I've decided to take this week to look back to 2012 and feature an absolutely stunning debut that every prog fan should hear. The band is HEADSPACE, and we are taking a look back at I Am Anonymous as a primer for their February release of All That You Fear is Gone. The odds are far better than a Powerball win that we'll be seeing them featured once again after the new album is out.
We've also got some very exciting news from Eric Gillette, a new trailer from Dream Theater, some info on free tracks from DC Cooper, and information on an acoustic album from Adam Wakeman and Damian Wilson. And yeah, we'll be doing the obligatory tribute to David Bowie as well.
I'm looking forward to getting the 2016 music flowing, and seeing everyone tonight!
-
Show in 30 minutes!
-
Show tonight! I am still not 100% sure what I'll be featuring. Starting the 22nd I'll be good on features for at least two months, but things are in a bit of a lull now. Probably going to focus on a particular country or era, just not sure on anything yet.
-
Think I'll be able to be there for most of it.
New Cloudscape that came out last week? It's really good!

New Cloudscape that came out last week? It's really good!
Chad and I had a talk on FB, and we're going to be unable to do this tonight, but will be keeping this as a possibility in the future.
For tonight, the feature will be the career of Queensryche, and I'll be talking about them throughout the evening.
-
Motherboard died on my computer. I'm out for a few weeks.

Motherboard died on my computer. I'm out for a few weeks.
It's about 10 years old, but I have a fully functional motherboard I can send you if it would fit your tower.
-
Going all in with new updates. I built it 10 years ago so it is time.

LET THE DOWNLOADS FLOETH
Queensryche are a band that were a fundamental building block to me. Operation: Mindcrime was an album that opened me up to entire new genres of music, and remains to this day one of my five desert island albums. Their run of music from The Warning (and EP) through Promised Land remains one of the best runs of five albums I’ve ever heard. So, when a combination hit, with few early January releases to talk about, and a ticket at the ready for an upcoming show, it made perfect sense to feature them tonight.
Music was played spanning their entire career, and I discussed the band’s music, impact, challenges, and of course the recent split, legal feud, and their future with Todd la Torre. You too can catch them on tour, by checking out the dates at their page, here. And hey, while you’re at it, if you’re unfamiliar, why not purchase their newest album, Condition Human, here?
Next up, at the time of our January Music Mixer, Jeff Teets of MindMaze was telling us of the band’s upcoming Kickstarter campaign. Well, the time of that campaign is now upon us, so please support their efforts in making their third album here.
Tonight we debuted the amazingly talented quartet of Might Could on the program, and you can grab a digital copy of their latest album, The NESFAN trilogy, here. And why not follow them on Facebook? Their page is right here.
On the docket next, there are a plethora of upcoming releases, and with them, music videos to support them. The first comes from The Mute Gods featuring Nick Beggs. The new album, Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me releases January 22nd, and can be pre-ordered here.
Next up is the January 29th release of the new Avantasia album Ghostlights. Go ahead and check out this track featuring Michael Kiske, and then pre-order the album here.
The final video comes from Redemption, and is the first we’re hearing of the new album, The Art of Loss. This particular track features the amazing guitar work of Marty Friedman! You can pre-order this release, due out February 26th, here.
And finally, a pair of news items. One is that Borealis wants you to have some free music. Click here and simply download two free tracks, easy as that. The next item is the news that Anderson, Wakeman, & Rabin will be working together! You can see a news item on that here.

Show tonight!
Going to be a change from what I said last week, and feature The Mute Gods instead of Steven Wilson. That said, we will of course be playing new Steven Wilson.
Also have a new video from Voyager, and, for this place it makes no sense, a "new" video for Moment of Betrayal from Dream Theater that I'm sure everyone here is already familiar with.
-
Probably gonna be able to be here. Mrs.jingle is out, so it's either WPAPU, or Witcher 3.
hhhmmmm
:justjen
Maybe both... listen but no chats's
-
In order to satiate my blood lust for music and games, I often must mix the two. Pretty much all games I'll play muted eventually, reading subtitles so I can listen to music awhile.

Yeah, I've been doing that a lot lately too (though, I pause the music in cut-scenes). Part of the appeal for WPAPU is the chat though, so I'm torn.
Chat with the boys vs Witcher 3.
WWND (what would Nick do)?
-
Well, Nick has no choice, as Nick has to focus on the show. Nick could stop talking in the third person, but Nick's not feeling that right now.
Nick thinks you should listen to the show, occasionally pausing the game to stop by chat and say something witty.
-
Show in 5!
-
New review from the great Joe!
Steven Wilson's 4 1/2
https://wpapu.com/review-steven-wilson-4-12/
-
New Headspace review: https://wpapu.com/review-headspace-all-that-you-fear-is-gone/

Show tonight! You'll never guess what the feature is.
-
Nordic Union?
Should be there for most of it. Witcher 3 be damned.
-
Nordic Union?

If by Nordic Union, you mean Dream Theater, then of course. :p
Lots of other great stuff as always however. :D
-
I'll check it if I don't fall asleep before it starts (didn't have much sleep last night).
-
I'll check it if I don't fall asleep before it starts (didn't have much sleep last night).
Feel you there. I typically take Wednesday's off, but switched my days as I had a funeral to run today. Had to be at work for this extra early funeral 30 minutes before I normally even get up. Ready for a nap. :lol

I'm in the middle of final exams so I don't know what the time is :lol. Had exam this morning 9 AM (why does it have to be so early :P ) and I just caught myself napping an hour ago (9:30 PM), it's crazy.
-
Should be on the show by about 6:30. It's dreamy hot-tub weather right now.

Show tonight!
This week Avantasia is getting the nod for the featured album!
-
Show tonight!
When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, February 24th, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/11pm-2am UTC!
We will be featuring the fantastic new album from Rikard Sjöblom, The Unbendable Sleep! There will also be a lot of play from Riverside as we pay tribute to the late Piotr Grudzinski who passed away on February 21st.
We have some brand new music from Redemption and Messenger - Band, a teaser from Knifeworld, and will be playing from Section A's new album for the first time tonight.
There is also news on the upcoming Edge of Reality album, and after a long wait, JOLLY has finally released the fantastic first episode of their JollyShow!
Finally, news that many will be doing back flips about, Neal Morse and Spock's Beard will be teaming up to perform Snow in full at the next MorseFest!
-
If I got the time right (and I'm not sure about that), I might drop by for the first hour or so.
-
Well, to help with time, it starts 2h45m from now.
-
Yeah, that means I've got it wrong and I probably won't drop by then. Thought it starts in an hour. Honestly, those time zones...
-
Had to work today, so just getting home now. Short version:
Show tonight, Redemption featured.
Not saying it's better than Headspace, but since they already had a review and mixer discussion, figured I'd go with Redemption this week, Headspace next.
-
Show tonight, featuring Headspace!
-
Should be there for a bit.
-
Posted this in the Haken thread earlier, but here's our review of Affinity: https://wpapu.com/review-haken-affinity/
This week for the show we will of course have some songs in remembrance of Keith Emerson.
-
Show tonight! Feature is Serenity.
We've also reached that nice time in the year with American clocks moved, but many other Euro countries not, that the show is an hour earlier over there. Hopefully a few of you can take advantage. :)
-
Show tonight! Features Mob Rules. Starts in 10 minutes.
And for those that missed it, interview with Diego from Haken: https://wpapu.com/interview-diego-tejeida-of-haken/
-
I've been largely absent over the past two weeks, for which I apologize, but here is what it on tap for tonight.
First off, show starts in 15 minutes.
We've got permission to play/feature the new Tiles album early, so we'll be doing so. That doesn't come out till April 15th.
Mason also has a review of that very same album up on the site already, so please check that out.
-
Show tonight! Feature is Iamthemorning. :D
-
Show tonight! Feature is Iamthemorning. :D
Sorry... gonna be busy getting serenaded by Lande, Kiske, Tobi, Amanda, Ronnie.
-
Doesn't Herbie Langhans deserve a mention? He kicks so much ass live, if only on a few songs. I can confirm this.
-

I'll let you know tomorrow.

Show tonight! Featuring Messenger this time around.
-
I'm listening... but won't be in chat for a while still.
-
Show tonight!
And we will be featuring...
Prepare yourself for the shock...
You could never have seen this coming...
Haken!
-
Show tonight, and we'll be featuring Lee Abraham!
What's more, is that I got an extra CD with my order, so we're giving a copy away with tonight's show! Tune in and chat and it may be yours. :D
-
Show in 10! :D
-
Copy pasta.
When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, May 25th, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/10pm-1am UTC!
Tonight we'll be featuring the new solo CD from IZZ guitarist Paul Bremner, The Witness! We'll also be doing the drawing to giveaway the Lee Abraham Band CD The Seasons Turn. You've still got a few hours to comment on last week's episode to be entered to win.
Starsabout will be making their debut on the program, we've got some new music from Big Big Train, which means someone at Music in Widescreen gets their wings, and some news from Dream the Electric Sleep.
-
Last week the stream went down just a few hours prior to the broadcast, and so we'll be doing all that ^^^ this week, and more. :)
-
Late to update, but there is indeed a show tonight, featuring Big Big Train.
-
Show starts in 15 minutes!
Featuring Eric Gillette tonight!
-
Okay folks, have some great news for tomorrow's show.
Firstly, we will be featuring an album of the year contender which is the new Fates Warning.
But that's not the big news...
In what I think may be a first in the long run of the show, we will be having a song premier on the show.
Tomorrow night will be the very first chance to hear "Back to the Machine" off of From the Law Offices of Levin Minnemann Rudess.
And of course you can pre-order that album here: https://www.lazybones.com/buy-stuff
I'm still working on the rest of the show, but those two bits alone make it one worth checking out!
-
That's really cool, Nick! Congrats!
-
No promises, but I may be able to tune in, if only for a first hour and a half or so. I hope the new LMR song won't be a show closer or something. :lol
-
No worries, it'll be in the first hour. :)
-
This kicks off in one hour! :D
-
Sorry Nick, fell asleep while waiting for the show to begin. :lol I'll get the podcast when it's up.
-
It's up now. :D
-
Show tonight! Sorry I'm late in getting prepped, but a ton and a half going on right now.
Feature will be Anderson/Stolt, and we'll be playing a lot of tribute to Beardfish as well.
IF things go down as they might, there will probably be a lot of missed shows/hiatus in the coming months. The length and severity is yet to be seen, but it will likely happen for some time.
-
Nickeh! :metal
-
Hey folks, sorry my updates have been pretty much non-existent, but here is some info:
First off, after a few missed weeks, there will be a show this Wednesday, Aug. 10th, but it will likely be the last show for awhile.
On the cause of all this. For several years now I've had offers to varying degrees to move from my place of work in Allentown to Plymouth Meeting, and the offers were never good enough to give much thought. This summer, two people in Plymouth Meeting quit, facilitating my companies need to get a competent person down there. I was approached again, and after a two weeks of negotiating finally accepted an offer to transfer. I started August 1st, and changed from having every Wednesday off to working most Wednesdays, and from a 10 minute commute to a, for now, 1 hour commute.
This change also has required I buy my first home, and the search for that home, and starting to get the old place cleaned out and packed up has taken up lots of my free time. We close Sep. 23 and will be moving in either Oct. 1 or Oct. 8. I happen to have this Wednesday off and will be doing the show, but am not sure how many shows I'll get to do between now and being settled in the new home. And even then I don't know if a day or hours will have to change.
Hopefully see a few of you guys tomorrow, and hopefully in a few months things will be back to normal.
-
It's been a while since I listened to your show (half a year I think), had lectures in the morning during last semester. I don't really have to sleep tomorrow so I'll join :tup (if I don't fall asleep).
-
Thanks Tomi!
Show starts in 20! :D
-
When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, August 10th, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/10pm-1am UTC!
That's right folks, after over a month off WPaPU returns and there is a ton to go over. I'll be talking about my mini-tour following HAKEN and Thank You Scientist, and also be reviewing my first time at ProgPower USA while of course playing plenty of material from the bands that played. Several of those bands will make their debut on the program including Serious Black - Official and Green Carnation.
I'll also be playing some great new music, including our feature tonight which is Viscous Circle from Edge of Reality! There is also new The Dear Hunter, Evergrey, and more!
-
Show in 15 minutes, hope to see a few faces after all this time off. :)
-
Okay folks, I know it's going to be a long time between shows, but the next one *should* be Wednesday, November 2nd.
As I've moved and gotten settled at the new house I'm probably as far behind on new music news as I've ever been, and so I'm turning to you guys for help on what I may have missed over the last month or so. Regulars know what I typically play or promote, so what have I missed? New videos? Recent releases? Upcoming releases? Everything helps!
-
Okay, so this has been awhile, but show tonight!
Featuring the Neal Morse Band.
The yearly wrap up show will be Jan. 4 with hours yet to be announced.
Year end list and commentary will be available... sometime. We've had massive technical problems on that end of things, unfortunately.
-
Latest podcast is up: https://wpapu.com/ep-358-featuring-the-neal-morse-band/

HELLO... Hello... hello...
Where is everyone? In any case, the year end retrospective is upon us! You can hear from myself and Joe in the podcast, and Mason in a separate file, and see our picks of the year!
https://wpapu.com/the-best-of-2016/
-
I'm not really active in regards to the usual shows because I can't make it due to our time differences, but I'm looking forward to that end-of-the-year show at Jan 4th. I will totally be there!
Read your best of 2016 writeup, great stuff. By the way, iamthemorning's album is "Lighthouse", not "Light House". ;)

I've been holding off getting a new computer since we bought a new furnace but soon I'm getting a new one and I can stream again. Old Nelly is dying.
-
Time flies, less than a week left! Everyone who can make it time-wise should really come and join this 2016 wrap-up show on January 4th. This is the third year wrap-up show in a row I'll be tuning in for and I've never regretted it, even if I had to stay up until 5 A.M. These shows are awesome, and you guys definitely want to be there. ;)
-
Alright guys, tomorrow is the day! Got a few outside contributions, and as always even staying within a 6 hour window will be a challenge. Look forward to seeing you! :D

Hey. Didn't know where else to post this.... Didn't want to start a new thread.
At work tonight we had a band called " Here & Now " who contain ex-members of bands called "Gong" and "Planet Gong"...
Ring any bells ? Supposedly big in the 70s. Psychedelic Prog. Very Pink Floyd.
Not bad. You know a band is prog when they have not one but TWO Gong Cymbals on the drums
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqQ-fTuhS6s&feature=youtu.be sneaky peeky :)
Please move this post if you so wish.
-
That song was nice enough. Although I know of Gong they are a band I never really delved into to be honest.
-
Happy to FINALLY be getting to do a show again tonight:
When Prog and Power Unite (www.wpapu.com) will be taking over the airwaves on progrock.com on Wednesday, May 17th, from 5-8pm CDT/6-9pm EDT/10pm-1am UTC. And this time it's definite! No work getting in the way, this show WILL happen!
This week we'll be featuring the soon to be released third album from MindMaze, Resolve! We'll also be debuting a great crop of new bands for the program including Cobalt Blue, The Black Light, and Elysium Theory.
We're also summing up the always excellent RoSfest experience and will be debuting The Fierce & The Dead, The Aaron Clift Experiment, Evership, as well as playing a few other tracks from participating bands. And hey, how about a new single from Rikard Sjöblom's Gungfly for good measure? I'll also be commenting on recent shows from KYROS, Edge of Reality, The Dear Hunter, and Coheed and Cambria.
I think it's fair to say we have a bit to cover, and after way too much time off we may go long on this one!
-
Well, me and Jeff Teets won't be tuning in, that much I know.
-

If you were a good asset you'd just play the show from your phone and patch it into the house music between/before bands.

Back from the dead, for a week at least.
Is this thing on?!? So here we are a year after the last episode and it's time to knock some dust off. Next week on Wednesday Sep. 12 we're going to go live once more! Over the past year there have been so many great albums and musical events that I have to take a few hours and get everything on record.
We'll hit heavily on 2018 releases, talk about the June/July live album blitz, hit on this past year's RoSfest and the changes coming next year, talk about ProgStock, ProgPower, and this summer's big trip to Night of the Prog. It's gonna be jam packed!
Exact time TBD, but likely the normal 5-8pm central or, is possible to help European listeners, an earlier 2-5pm central special time slot. I know it's been a long time, but I hope some old friends can make it out to chat!
-
I'll see what I can do.
-
I have to go to a wake tonight. I hope I can get an hour in or so when I get back.
-

Shut up you!

2-5 PM CST next week could be doable for me actually. If not, well, I'll join you on the New Year one (it definitely should be a thing this year).
-
On Neil Peart's Birthday. Coincidence? Probably.
Way earlier than normal. Guess it depends on traffic.

Ok. At least you might be able to hear it.
-
Lol
-
Lol
You pick the first two and I'll come up with the third....
-
Ok. I'll pick 2 of my favorite Neil centric songs.
-
First off, thank you everyone for the interest in this! I will post something for sure tomorrow or Monday, but I'm thinking the 2-5pm central slot is looking more likely. At this point I can't please everyone, as some in US will still be at work for that slot, and Europe will be mostly asleep for the normal slot, so at this point I'm simply going with the numbers and allowing people the most chances.
I already have a set pretty much picked out, and although it's not officially a 2018 wrap up show, considering I haven't done a show yet this year that's going to have a heavy focus.

That's pretty much how I saw this going down. Might be able to sneak in near the end.
-
Ytse, I'll pm you 2 songs tonight.
-
And it's official. :D
Attention all pilots of the solar federation! It's officially official, for the first time in a year we'll be broadcasting this Wednesday between 2-5pm Central time. That means starting at noon on the West coast of the US, 3pm on the East coast, and at 7pm in a place like England.
There is a lot to catch up on, so not sure what the official "feature" will be, but we'll be talking about my trips to RoSfest, Night of the Prog Festival - Loreley Amphitheater, ProgPower USA, and covering all sorts of new music.
-
This is in two hours, right? Just checking.
-
I might be able to catch the last hour
-
This is in two hours, right? Just checking.
Correct!
Or, as of now, 1 hour and 45 minutes! Hope to see some of you then!
-
I should make part/most of it while multi-tasking at work.
-
And it's live now. So far only me and Chad in the chat, but you should probably join if you have some time on your hands.
-
Site's blocked at work. No Stairway... denied.
-
Tonight's episode is up, thanks to everyone who came out!

Hey folks, one week from today looking to do another show. It's a case of 3-6pm EST preferred, 6-9pm EST backup, and should know Monday which slot is possible.
Feature will likely be Riverside or Phideaux, let me know if you have any preferences.

Show in two hours. :D

I've only got three hours of sleep last night, so I probably shouldn't stay up for the whole show this time. I think I'll join for the first hour though.
Edit: or actually I may just go to sleep now, I'm falling asleep right in front of my PC. Sorry Nick.

Show again tomorrow folks, and it's a special time for the Euros.
Going to do 3-6pm Eastern again, but since we turned our clocks and many of you haven't it'll be an hour earlier than usual.
