Just found out my school is going fully remote tomorrow (I guess they're doing this one day at a time).

So I get to work remotely tomorrow.

Oh, sorry. This is the pissed off thread. Hmmm.

Since I got back from the Hell’s Heroes Festival in Texas I have literally been in absolute agony! My lower back right side wrapping around to my groin has been a “9” pain. I’m just starting to feel slightly better and now my allergies are kicking my ass. Can I have one day without misery please?

Here's the thing; If you live in Florida, or any other highly congested area, you're going to develop road rage. Every day, multiple times, without fail, you'll be waiting at a 4-minute-long red light and 3/4's of the ass wipes in front of you are on their phones making grocery lists or perusing porn sites and sure as shit, when that light turns green, those same ass wipes aren't going to notice. The rest of us miss the light and sit for another 4 minutes with our hand on the horn, ready to blast. Then some guy on a motorcycle will fly by at 100 mph darting through cars and cutting people off. As soon as I retire I'm going back to the peace and serenity of northern Michigan. I can't take it here. I get so mad sometimes I feel like I could ram into somebody.

I would amend this to "inconsiderate smokers can just fuck right off". It doesn't help that most smokers that I encounter on the streets/in public places/at work are inconsiderate though.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Seeking to avoid confrontation for reasons I've mentioned elsewhere, I try to avoid using the horn. People sleeping through lights is really blowing that for me. The other day the arrow turned green, I counted 3 seconds, and then honked. Girl flipped me off for it, like I'm the bad guy. She also brake-checked me halfway through the intersection.

If cops really wanted to make the roads safer and better they'd quit writing chickenshit speeding tickets and start nailing people on phones. If they were to start writing those tickets to people who don't signal, and people who block intersections like we're describing, both ticketable offenses down here, you'd see phone usage while driving plummet. It's just that it's much easier to run radar, or stake out an intersection with a particularly short yellow and write your 30 tickets in a couple of hours than actually go after the people who need to be gone after.

In NJ, a using phone while driving ticket is a mandatory court appearance.  I think that's to deter people from doing it, but I also think it deters cops from writing them.

As I understand it, as often as not it can't be proven in court, so they get tossed anyway. Johnny has to see you on the phone, and that's easier said than done. Usually it's unmarked cars, but they've also had to get creative. Dress a cop up as a surveyor. That sort of thing.

Maybe, but I can't recall seeing such stings set up for people on the phone, but I'm sure it happens.  I just generally feel like cops are not likely to pull you over these days for a myriad of reasons.

It's certainly an odd feeling sometimes when I do wish the cops would enforce SOME of the rules at least.  The phone one is actually not my biggest gripe though.  Just the general lack of attention at all from some drivers is more alarming (and sadly unenforceable), although adding a phone to such a person makes it significantly worse.

I counted 3 seconds, and then honked.
This is my rule. Light turns green, I count to 3 and if the car hasn't moved, I do a short honk. If no response then a longer honk.

As Cram, phones don't bother me as much. On my ride to/from work, I have a few "left/right turn only" lanes. When traffic accumulates, you get the "smart" drivers that go around to cut the line. More often than not, I let them merge because it doesn't delay me as much and I don't see the point in getting upset about it. But if it's a day that I'm in a bad mood, it turns into a game of "let's see if you really gonna hit my car"  :lol In the same category, you get those that seemingly know they need to turn, but wait until the very last second to merge into the lane.

It's out of control in Denver. I think the fact that so many folks are transplants (read: unfamiliar with the weird arcane layouts of some of the downtown streets, think 2 ways suddenly being 1 ways, weird unaligned intersections etc) makes it a lot worse, but of course phone usage is a huge problem too. Also, for one reason or another (not making any political commentary) cops have TOTALLY GIVEN UP basically all enforcement here. I would say about 20% of all vehicles on the streets here have expired plates, or no plates at all. It's insane. Also many intersections are now crawling with people that are standing in the middle of the dividers with squeegees and soap water washing peoples windows (without asking) at lights and then expecting to be tipped for it. it's uncomfortable, it should be illegal, and lord knows it's dangerous as hell to have all these people in the intersections. Would be great if law enforcement in Denver would like... pretend they have jobs to do lol

Not a tobacco smoker but it's never bothered me. If anything I've felt bad for them. Where are you even allowed to smoke anymore? I get it being a no no indoors but laws enforcing it even outside are just a bridge too far imo. Why are we legislating smoking outdoors? seems insane to me lol

WTF?!  :lol

Maybe because it's slightly dangerous and people who don't smoke shouldn't have to be exposed to second hand smoke from others in a public place.

I have nothing against people who smoke, but if I have to go out, I don't want some asshole near me just smoking it up not giving a shit and me being caught in the crossfire of their second hand smoke.

I'm only 32 but never in my entire life have I ever encountered a person smoking outdoors who was waltzing around blowing their smoke in peoples' faces :lol Usually smokers are content to be in their own nook or cranny of a building away from the main flow of foot traffic. Again, I'm totally sympathetic to people who are sensitive to it or really adverse to the smell/vibe of it, was just mentioning I have never been bothered by it and as such kind of think the laws around smoking it outdoors are a bit much.

IMO, I have had way more awful experiences with people who are completely obliterated and drunk on alcohol (and they're INSIDE when they're that way!), and yet, there are no laws about being a drunk and within a certain proximity of doors or other people in public. Just feels like a weird double standard to me (again, I am not a tobacco smoker)

And before you mention it, yes, I am aware of second hand smoke. But I'd argue it's less dangerous than second-hand physical injuries coming from people stumbling around drunk and otherwise acting carelessly.

I'm glad for you.

It's probably because of the laws that are 'a bit much' is the reason you have that experience with smokers.

Fair. If TV is to be believed before 1990 cigarette smoke apparently lingered in the air at every establishment, business or pleasure. I would almost certainly take issue with that :lol

Only in bars. Most places had designated sections. Hell, there were separate student and teacher smoking lounges at my highschool. While sometimes a restaurant might smell a little of smoke, it was never actually smokey. For the most part the amount of smoke in the air was directly proportional to the amount of alcohol served. To be honest I don't mind the world being smoke free, but I didn't mind it before, either. We were all just used to it. Now people seem to be far too bent out of shape about it.

So, I'm 5000 miles from home, travelled all day yesterday, which included a cancelled connecting flight. We were up for 22 hours, and this morning, the only thing I was looking forward to was having a nice cup of coffee on our balcony.

That seems annoying, where are you then, in Europe?  Smoking is much more common there from my experience.  I'd be a bit annoyed too if that was impacting my vacation.

Was just joking with my gf about how you used to be able to smoke in restaurants when I was a kid (but she didn't remember this, being 6 years younger than me).  I kind of remember it being disgusting personally.  The smoking section definitely smelled and looked dirtier, but I had friends in high school that smoked cigarettes and the diner was one of the places we could hang out, so the smoking section of the diner nearby was where I spent a lot of time as a teen.  I never liked it.

I get it being a no no indoors but laws enforcing it even outside are just a bridge too far imo. Why are we legislating smoking outdoors? seems insane to me lol

I'm kind of with you here, we shouldn't be regulating the "outdoors" but I must say, I'm not really aware of such laws.  (not denying they exist, I just don't know about them specificly or maybe it's a state by state thing).  Usually most buildings have a designated smoking section outside and that seems fine to me.

I definitely remember the days of smoking sections in restaurants. One of my earliest memories was immigrating to the US as a kid on a plane that allowed smoking. I remember being so sick, and it smelling terribly.

I never smoked, and while I hated the smell, I didn't mind it at the bars and clubs I frequented (the alcohol consumption probably helped with that). I remember when I was going to regularly they floated a ban on indoor smoking, and the establishments cried it would kill their businesses. I thought that was ridiculous, and happily voted for the ban when it came on the ballot. And sure enough, the crowds initially tanked. I couldn't believe people would rather stay home than go out and not smoke. Years later when I moved and started going to a casino by my house not subject to the ban, I was floored at how much of a difference it made, and how much I recognized the smoke now that I had been away from it for years.
