WTF kind of album title is that.

What's wrong with it?

Sounds like a cheesy sci-fi thing, but honestly doesn't bother me.

Do you guys not understand how self-aware this band is? They have "horse-neighs" in their songs.

The title doesn't really sound like BTBAM either. Oh well. This is the new them.

i'm not sure how self-aware the inclusion of horse-neigh's make a band.

that being said, horse-neigh FTW!  :metal

March bump.

I've been listening to the teaster of Specular Reflection more and I like it more with each listen. I really like the chaotic sounding section where the entire band comes in after the intro.

Tried the first two tracks of Colors. So oppressively heavy and in-your-face that I couldn't get past it, and then switched to Radiohead and enjoyed myself much more. SORRY GAIS

FWIW (and I honestly, it's not worth much really), but those two tracks are easily my least favorite on the album. Give some of the others a try before you write them off.

Or just try The Great Misdirect, which is the superior album. :neverusethis:

Yeah, Zantera said to try TGM so I'll give that a spin before writing them off completely, and I'll try and sit through a full listen or two of Colors too.

Even though a lot of music is "love at first sight" (or well... listen), I still think some of the best are the ones that don't click at once, but might take a few spins.
Dismissing something after ONLY 1 or 2 spins of an album would be crazy, and if I would follow that example myself, I would never have fallen in love with bands like Anathema, Radiohead, The Tallest Man on Earth and BTBAM. (to name a few)  :P

Yeah, I completely agree with that, but I've never come to love something so offputting at first listen. Heck, Lateralus bored me on my first listen, and now it's my favourite album ever. I just don't see that happening here, as I actively disliked it first time round.

Also, Tallest Man On Earth was one of the few artists that clicked immediately for me.  :lol

I was exactly like that the first time I heard Colors. BTBAM are the only screaming/growling/whatever band I listen to, and it took about 15 listens for it to click, and now it's in my top five albums of all time. I wa lucky enough to be playing WoW at the time, so I just played continually in the background for it kind of "sink in".
I only like ablums that I can xanascholithoun.

You certainly can't judge the Colors album or indeed the band just on those two tracks. The rest of the album is much more progressive and intricate, and often mellow and beautiful. Foam Born is just a 1-2 'punch in the face' compared to the tender massaging of the later tracks

I'm not really into heavy music, and BTBAM was a bit off putting at first, but I wanted to give them an honest chance, and a few spins later =  :hefdaddy

I haz a Colors.

Will listen to it pretty soon. I like what I've heard from it. "Prog metal" never catches my interest anymore, aside from a few bands that fall under the classification, like Opeth and Evergrey, but BTBaM seem to avoid a lot of stereotypes.

Personally I lost interest for Progressive Metal a year ago or something, but BTBAM clicked right away, and hopefully I'll start checking out some more Progressive stuff again. :P

Going to see these guys on April 22nd in Toledo at Headliners. I'm making the 4 and a half hour trip to see them since they are not coming to Central or Southern Ohio this tour. It's going to be awesome.

Right you are, sir. I've spun Alaska and Colors a few times each, and they're fucking awesome  :D Extremely refreshing, too. No self-indulgent individualism. They all work together as one extreme force of nature.

Glad you dig em :tup.
So, who's up for a marathon/countdown of Alaska, Colors, and TGM right in time for the new EP hitting soil?
(because they're still with their current lineup, that's why I chose the last three)

But you can start from the very start too, whatever you want. Should be fun I think, especially if you haven't overplayed BTBAM.
