Interesting to see where all of the songs ended up.  Well-done!  :tup :tup

On another note, I would be curious to see the order if this exact same thing was done over at Portnoy's forum.  ariich, if you are a member, you should do it there, too.  To see the difference between forums would be very interesting.

Hmm, I am a member, but I very rarely post. Might do it at some point though, preferably after my upcoming exams, could be an interesting comparison.

Also, just noticed something that I find quite interesting, which is that the last three tracks of Awake all did incredibly similarly:

33. Scarred:  7.991
34. Space Dye-Vest:  7.893
35. Lifting Shadows Off a Dream:  7.836

Cool idea.  And I would suggest the blurb for each song by written by someone who ranked the song pretty highly, that way each song is given a positive review, even if it didn't end up being one of the more popular songs.  And I think we would all understand if no one volunteered to write a blurb on "You Not Me."  :lol :lol :lol

:lol Well, I think the blurbs would just be on the top however many, as they are in that link TOX posted. A blurb on every single song is good, including all the random Majesty songs that most people don't even know, would just be bizarre.

I'd be up for helping out!

I'm up for doing The Root of All Evil or Fatal Tragedy or something along those lines. Or one of the more controversial ones towards the middle.

I was gonna suggest this myself.  Blob's rants about Scarred are colorful enough that they'll probably get people to listen to it just out of curiosity. :lol

I will do everyone a favor by not volunteering to write about any song, due to my embarrassing musical illiteracy.

It wouldn't surprise me if IaW slays overall. It's definitely the least controversial on a song by song basis. Nothing else will come close.

It will be interesting to see how the albums go by these rankings, because they're being judged based on the songs, and not as a whole album as people would in an album ranking thread. I actually have a feeling that SFAM won't be as high as it usually would for that reason, even though it's highly ranked.

So, I&W wasn't quite as far ahead as I was expecting:

1. Images and Words: 8.429
2. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: 8.241
3. Black Clouds & Silver Linings: 7.909
4. Awake: 7.868
5. Scenes From a Memory: 7.589
6. Train of Thought: 7.582
7. Octavarium: 7.344
8. Falling Into Infinity: 6.896
9. Systematic Chaos: 6.783
10. When Dream and Day Unite: 6.341

Like you say Blob, this isn't the same as "DTF's album rankings", because it is purely based on song ratings. I might do that sometime as well (getting everyone to rate each album out of 10), to see how it compares.

I didn't include ACOS (obviously) or the unreleased songs, although interestingly the unreleased stuff actually had a slightly higher average than WDADU!

Interestingly enough, that's almost exactly how my album rankings would look (just switch 6DOIT and Awake).

Interesting to see BCASL rate so highly for a song by song basis. I wouldn't have expected that. I also didn't expect SDOIT to be so high up, as I know the title track and TGD are all over the place with their ratings. And ToT and SFAM are basically equal. I knew SFAM wouldn't fare so well based on a song by song basis.

Very interesting seeing the albums rated like this.

Yeah, SFAM is never likely to do that well.. through my words and regression will get an automatic low score from most people. I also get the impression awake did less well than it's percieved overall, not sure why though. Perhaps to do with BC&CL, SDOIT having less tracks. If you split SDOIT the song for example, the album would probably do worse. Whereas if you did SFAM by "acts" it would probably do better.

I'm not so sure. Two and a HALF years ago maybe, but people started disliking it very quickly.

But yeah, I might try running this thing every year or two, just to see how opinions change over time.

Interestingly enough, that's almost exactly how my album rankings would look (just switch 6DOIT and Awake).
It's not entirely dissimilar to mine. Swap the two top, swap SFAM and FII, and move SC up a few places and that's it.

I think that both SFAM and Awake are better than the sum of their parts, and would do better in an album-by-album ranking.

Definitely agreed on SFAM. I fully expected this result. As for Awake, I think it just has a few more controversial love/hate tracks, so when it averages out, it doesn't really reflect how many people love it. Whereas nothing on IaW is really controversial.

When Awake first came out I dug the heavyness of the album but a time went on I played it less than other DT cd's(which is still played more than many bands in my catolog). To each his own.

Also Awake is also almost 20 minutes longer, I think that contributes to a "more things to dislike" or higher chance there will be something someone wont like type scenario.
