Well, Enigma Machine is almost definitely the instrumental, so I'm unsure what you can glean from its title.

Also i'm pretty sure the name enigma machine was Mike Mangini's input, being the math fanatic that he is.

That is fascinating.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

That picture is definitely a close-up of JR's neck.

Nah, it's Syme's work so it'll be a random pic of someone else's that he recycles (or re-unicycles perhaps  ;D)

If you think about it, Black Clouds and Silver Linings is sort of a concept album about the band itself. It starts with JP getting into a car accident. After he gets out of the hospital, he finds himself facing writer's block. Meanwhile, MP feels like he finally put an end to his addiction, then having to face the death of his father. Then back to JP, who's still stuck with writer's block, and decides to take a vacation in Tuscany, where he meets the Count, who gives him a great story to write about, thus completing his story arc.
I don't know where the Freemasons come in. Maybe the doctor who treated JP after the car accident was one.

So it's a humming bird whispering in some dude's ear
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I've just been on the official DT site for the first time in years.  Has the artwork been changed in preparation for the new album?  It seems that above the tightrope the artwork is taken the from the new album and below from ADTOE.

Or am I just plain wrong?

I know enigma machine was linked to germans then but I couldn't be bothered listening, but the enigma machine was a machine that coded messages for the Nazis in WW2

Maybe you're right... there is a planet coming up above the rope! Nonetheless, I'm not familiar enough with that picture to confirm that it has been changed for the new upcoming album... can someone confirm it?
