Bent Sea - Noistalgia

A grindcore project by Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, ex-Soilwork) featuring Devin Townsend on bass. Ordered it through their Bandcamp and it came with a signed pic of Dirk. I chatted with him a bit over email and told him I loved his drumming on Dev's Deconstruction. He's a cool guy.  :metal

I have a copy of Soilwork's Live in the Heart of Helsinki signed by Dirk.  I ordered the blu-ray through Nuclear Blast.  The week or so of the album's release in 2014, their facebook page shared a picture of Dirk signing some albums, and I received it.  I thought nothing of it for a while, but after we moved to our new house in 2022, I was unpacking my DVD's and saw it.  I had plans to actually display all of my music autographs in the basement, so I framed it.

Had to look up the signature to confirm it was his - I couldn't remember who it was at first who signed it.  Kinda neat that he went on to Megadeth.

My listening lately:

Iron Maiden - En Vivo

Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
Bon Jovi - New Jersey

(leroy - grave robbing)

barely over halfway through this and already in love, jane remover's dariacore alias turning out a (relatively) less intense dance mashup album that's still as choppy, abrasive, and colorful as the dariacore releases but just goes down a lot easier (and feels more substantive, tbh)

this is scratching, like, all of the itches for me. so good.

I've been enjoying this. Easily a top 3 death metal release of the year so far.

I've read good things about this one,  although it's not a genre that I really follow. Is it worthy?

Hey Nick, sorry I just realised I didn't respond to this. The new Full of Hell is pretty good. I guess it's grindcore, or powerviolence (which I've only just really found out was an actual genre). I'm only really familiar with the big names in grindcore, and it's not a genre I listen to often.

If you want 25 minutes of pretty in your face music, then it's worth a go. It does have some atmosphere and slower parts, such as in Bleeding Horizon, but it's generally all out assault, as fits the genre.

It's unlikely to crack my top 50 of the year but I'd still say give it a shot.

Yeah, it has some of the “usual suspects” in terms of moody/modern prog influences (Porcupine Tree, Tool and their disciples…I can hear some Jolly in there too), but they have their own thing going too. Cool atmosphere all around.

How I adore this record. It's still my favourite Leprous, and that's almost entirely because of Baard's performance.
