Hey DTF,
Any comic book fans here? I'm proud to announce that Issue #1 of my debut comic book series Miracle Kingdom will be released on March 8, 2023 through indie publisher Scout Comics. It is the first of a five issue series, which was a lot of work, but a satisfying collaboration with a world class creative and editorial team. I am the writer of the comic.
Miracle Kingdom is an offbeat, playful detective story about an accountant in heaven that is in charge of auditing miracles. Things go sideways when the angel discovers a shady televangelist with mystifying healing powers that appear to be astonishingly convincing. Is it a case of divine intervention or a clever hoax? Ultimately, the series examines the clandestine systems that impact our lives and how our worldviews can be challenged.
DTF has always been a meaningful community to me and I hope you can spread the word about this comic. Better yet, for those so inclined, preorders are available now if you call up your local comic book shop and reserve a copy in advance with with code JAN231812. Either way, your support goes a long way. Here is the Previews World link with more details:

Wow, many thanks TAC! It was written specifically for people who enjoy music in 11/8. Okay, not exactly, but creative minds do think alike, so . . .

Oh man. Fantastic. Chad will love this.

TAC, no blood in the ink . . . yet. But there's still time before printing begins.
Thanks kingshmegland and GMillerDrake for the support! You are the best!

As someone who just got back into comics in the past couple of years, I will definitely check this out. I have started reading more non-super hero stuff, and this looks pretty cool! Congrats on getting this published!

Is there a way to pre-order/buy online?

How long do you think until all 5 issues are ready?

For now, only comic book stores can pre-order. But the Scout webstore will have it available as the March release date draws closer. I'll be coming back to this thread to drop a direct order link for those interested.
The reason I'm promoting now via local shops is it helps put this title on the store's radar so they know there is interest to carry the title. If a person pre-orders one issue, maybe the store will order 10 for other customers. Or something like that.
But I'll be dropping the direct order link in this thread once its ready. Thanks for asking!!

All fives issues have been finished and delivered to the publisher. It's now just a matter of the publisher releasing them. Although nothing official, I suspect Issue 5 will come out sometime in September, and a collected trade paperback featuring all 5 issues may be released in end of 2023/start of 2024, but that could depend on if the sales o the single issues justify it.

Congratulations, man. This sounds great! Will talk to my local comic shop about ordering it for me. ;D

For those interested, a couple of online comic retailers have my debut comic Miracle Kingdom already listed for pre-order for home shipping. The release date is March 8, but pre-orders help encourage stores to stock the title. Here are few online options currently available, although there are others:

Shipping: $6.99

Shipping: $5.39
Keep in mind that shipping a comic even for a single issue is pricey ($5.99+), and paid up front. But for those of you that have a local store nearby, you can always ask them to hold you a copy when it comes out in March, but you'll need to ask for it now, as the last day to place a pre-order is 2/5/23.
Lastly, any support by the good folks at DTF community is humbly appreciated. Know that I'm deeply thankful for you even reading this thread.

The official press release from Scout Comics dropped this evening, so I'll post it here, as it contains some new reveals on the cover art, interior art (non-sequential samples) and overall story concept. Enjoy!

I forgot to update when I did it, but put this one on order with my LCS a few weeks back.
Not too much longer now!
-
RTK - No way! Very cool. Congratulations! I'll head down to the local shop this weekend and make sure they have that title coming in. I'll pick it up for sure. So awesome.
-
Whoah, no way! Thanks Billboy74 and Samsara - I'm indebted to your support!
Just a quick update-- looks like there are may some delays with the printing vendor, so the release date has been (unofficially) bumped to March 22. Will keep everyone posted.
In other news, I just booked my first signing events at a few local stores here in the Los Angeles area - kinda surreal. But I'll be at Pulp Fiction Comics in Culver City on March 22; at the Comic Bug in Culver City and Manhattan Beach on March 29; and in Chatsworth at We Can Be Heroes on April 15. If any of these stores are in your neck of the woods, come say hi. I'll be handing out homemade scratch tickets for a chance to win a free issue.

So, the first issue finally came out yesterday. Got my copy (along with the new Venom Lethal Protector miniseries # 1), but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Hopefully I will get to it this weekend. Pretty excited to give it a read.

Still waiting on mine. Hopefully pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks for keeping us updated! Ready for issue 2!
Seems like Issue #2 might be delayed a bit, perhaps in stores on July 8th. Same thing happened with Issue #1. Log jam at the printers, I reckon.
-
Just got issue 2 from my LCS! Hopefully there's not a long delay for issue 3.
-
Just got issue 2 from my LCS! Hopefully there's not a long delay for issue 3.
Yup, Issue 2 hit stores. Scout schedules a long delay between the 1st and 2nd issue to allow time for people to decide if they want to pre-order the series, since pre-orders need 3 months advance notice. Otherwise, folks would be pre-ordering a series they had already decided they've got no interest in continuing. But from here out, it will be monthly. Issue 3 will be coming out in late August.
Thanks for your support!!!
-
The wait is FINALLY over. Issue 2 is in stores and available online. Check out this variant cover which is only available via the Scout webstore. Introducing Digby Rux, our Employee of Infinite Months:

Wow, man. Thanks for the massive compliment! Just trying to navigate a new world for me. It's been tricky, with delays, disappointments, amazing euphoric lifts, major developments on the horizon (that I can't talk about yet) that could fall through or make a dream come true, depending on how the pieces come together. But overall, its been a satisfying process. Thanks for the boost, it helps keep me motivated. Glad to connect with comic fans such as yourself.

I probably won't be able to check this out (overall busy with work about to start back up), and I am not a comic fan, but huge props to you. These look legitimately great on the surface. Also posting in case I find time and a little extra money to get these down the road.
-
Looking forward to finally getting my grubby little hands on issue # 2.
I am hitting Galaxy Con here in Raleigh this afternoon, and can hopefully swing by my comic shop to pick up my copy this weekend.

As someone who has been a part of a number of album-releases, I know that feeling well, and your description is spot on.
I think, if I may be so bold, the difference here is that, as a longtime comic book fan, I think you've got the real deal on your hands. Obviously, it's all about finding an audience, but you can definitely hang your hat on the fact that you have a solid (ahem, original) title on your hands.
-
Gigantic comic fan here. Sadly, while I planned on picking up issue 1, I stopped my saver before it came out, and I missed out. I feel horrible.
I'll stop by my local shop the next few weekends and see if they have the first couple issues. If not, I'll order em from the Scout websotre. So happy for you RtK. I know how it feels to have your work in print. Congratulations!

Appreciate that WilliamMunny! You've been on similar rides!

I have my first solo book coming out in March - Roads to Madness: The Touring History of Queensr˙che (1981-1997). I also co-wrote parts of Building An Empire: The Story of Queensr˙che, which published in 2021. I didn't write the main narrative, but I wrote a couple chapters. I also added things here and there when what was written was light on explanation and detail, and wrote a couple of "sidebar" sections of the book. The bio isn't a great example of my writing, as the narrative wasn't generally written by me, and I would have done things differently.
I have some irons in the fire for two other biographies in the years to come. (non-Queensr˙che-related)

I chased my local comic shop here in the UK about your book three times, only to be told that timing meant I must have ordered too late to get #1 and it they had no idea what was going on with it.
But then! I got an email saying they've got issue 2 for me! So I've STILL not read it but just ordered #1 off eBay and will pick up #2 at the weekend.

Yikes, sorry for the hassle! Glad you still chased after it. Hope you enjoy it, but remember to take it easy on a rookie. ;D

Just read issue 1 while cooking dinner. Well impressed. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Practically read itself! ;D I tend to lean toward Image comics as a favourite publisher - barely touch DC or Marvel - and this was right up my street. Proper job, man.

Hefdaddy, I'm happy to share that after a lengthy publishing delay, Issue #3 comes out TODAY - November 1, 2023. Available in stores or via online at Scout's Website:
https://www.scoutcomics.com/collections/miracle-kingdom (https://www.scoutcomics.com/collections/miracle-kingdom)
The good news is that the remaining issues will stay on this new schedule (December 6 for Issue 4 and January 10 for Issue 5). Here are some sample pages (non-sequential) from Issue #3:

Wow, I appreciate the support!!! :hefdaddy Today I'm going to a string of stores in the Orange County area to find copies "in the wild." Days like today is what its all about. I choose a new area in Southern California to hunt in comic stores I've never been to before on release week for each new issue.

And finally. . . Issue 5 will be in stores on January 10. Featuring a two-sided wrap-around cover, Winston’s dogged quest to solve the mystery behind Lester’s miracles reaches its pivotal moment of truth. However, the final showdown takes an astonishing turn, testing Winston’s faith in the heavenly system itself.

Thank you DTF for supporting my first venture into comic book making. It's been a long, process with some challenges, but my team delivered some top notch work and I couldn't be prouder of their efforts. Thank you for taking a chance in discovering this new series!

Nice job on wrapping it up. Also leaving room for another series if possible. I hope this was successful and fulfilling for you!

Sorry just saw your comment now. As you can see, I'm not a regular in the DTF General section. :lol
Appreciate the positive feedback, Hef! Yes, there is more story to be told [especially if we close a television series deal, of which there has been some serious sniffing around]. Fingers crossed on that.
There is no better feeling than going to a comic store you've never been to before and finding your work on the shelves. That alone has been reward enough. That, and having folks like yourself take a chance with the series. Thanks a ton for your support!!! Also had plenty of amazing interactions talking to people at the few conventions where I've tabled.

That's awesome! I'm so happy for you!
Good luck on your future writing, and on the potential TV deal!

Awesome to hear about a potential tv deal. I went back and read Miracle Kingdom again a few weeks back.
I'll definitely be in for a horror series from you, so keep us in the loop!

It's a longshot, but I'm soliciting votes for a comic book industry award called the Ringo Awards. I don't stand a chance against the seasoned pros, but there are categories for new creators such as myself. I'm hoping to earn a nomination in these select categories:
• Favorite New Talent: Michael McCarthy – Miracle Kingdom

The Ringo Awards are named after Mike Wieringo (June 24, 1963 – August 12, 2007), who often signed his work Ringo, an American comics artist best known for his work on DC Comics’ The Flash, Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four, and his co-creation Tellos. The Ringo Awards have often served as a marvelous platform for highlighting some smaller titles and I’ve been doing everything I can to campaign on behalf of a very talented team.
