5 - Star Fucking Hipsters -
Two Cups of Tea - Ultimetalhead
Don't really know why as it's not really what I would typically call 'my style' but this song waS fuckin' awesome. Enjoyed quite a bit.
5 - Diablo Swing Orchestra -
Black Box Messiah - Shadow Ninja 2.0
What? Two 5s in one round? You see it right. This song was damn cool. I'll definitely need to check out this band further.
4 - Circus Maximus -
Architect of Fortune - Train of Naught
Cool tune. I listened to their debut a few times when it was newish and enjoyed it, this song was in a similar vein but wearing the DT influence a little less on their sleeve. Definitely enjoyable.
4 - Dog Fashion Disco -
Silent Film - Scorpion
Interesting song for sure. I think I heard a bit from this band back in the days of peer to peer filesharing, got some song from them mislabelled as System of a Down and really liked it. This song appears to have moved on quite a bit from that style, but still a good time.
4 - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds -
A simple Game of Genius - Stadler
This song definitely reminded me of Oasis, but that's not really surprising, or a bad thing. It certainly had a distinctiveness to it as well. Enjoyed it quite a bit.
3 - Riverside -
Hyperactive - Sacul
Hmm... ultimately this song really didn't grab me, even on multiple listens. It was an okay song for sure, but I didn't get much of a "This sure is a special song" feeling from it? I don't know.
3 - East of the Wall -
Fractal Canopy - Parama
A cool song but it didn't really click with me. Not sure what else to say.
3 - Tesseract -
Of Matter - Proxy - Sir Walrus Cauliflower
Not really what I expected based on what I know of Tesseract, but a pretty okay tune. I was surprised by the way it ended. Reminds me of how Pull Me Under ends - or is there just something wrong with my copy of Images and Words?
3 - Max Richter -
Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons Spring - senecadawg2
Wasn't really expecting to get any classical music... while this was nice, it didn't really come across as anything particularly special to me? Might just be because I'm not that familiar with Vivaldi. More of a Beethoven guy.
2 - Ryan Adams -
La Cienega Just Smiled - Fluffy Lothario
Just really not my style. Sorry man. Not sure what else to say.
Standings:
Sacul - 19
Train of Naught - 19
Scorpion - 19
Ultimetalhead - 18
Sir Walrus Cauliflower - 17
Fluffy Lothario - 16
Senecadawg2 - 16
Stadler - 16
Shadow Ninja 2.0 - 16
Parama - 15
Still quite a close race with quite a few rounds to go. Still anyone's game!
I'll reiterate the theme for the next round in case anyone is just checking the thread now:
Epic
Now, epic can mean a lot of things depending on who you are. In terms if musical, it's generally going to refer to length or some quality of the music itself. An argument could be made to it applying to lyrical content, too (I guess).
So I don't necessarily want 20 minute songs, but those are being accepted for this round. Anything like 7:30+ will probably do in terms of length, though the songs don't necessarily require an epic length if they are musically epic (though both is ideal). As far as an upper limit, I don't want to put any hard limits on, but consider how many delays I have been having with normal length songs
. Light of Day, Day of Darkness or its ilk may be a bad choice here.
Some example songs that I'm sure will just confuse people, but would get 5 points in this round:
Etsuko Yakushimaru - Nornir
Dir en grey - Vinushka
Don't send in anything just yet, but you can feel free to start thinking about your pick.
I will also reiterate PLEASE INCLUDE THE NAME AND ARTIST OF YOUR SONG IN YOUR PM! It's fine if you want to send a youtube link so I can see a video or something, but for ease of running this thing I need the names and stuff in the PM. Please do this going forward!
