I get the feeling both bands have just been posting the link on their facebook pages and getting fans to vote for them! :lol

Still, it's all good publicity for WPAPU.

I originally posted the link on Haken's facebook. But, at that time, it was no big deal. Since all these bands that I know for a fact people listening in every week don't really like were getting a ton of votes, I realized I'd need to do some whoring on my own :P

Some bits of news:

Proper domain for the official website! https://www.hakenmusic.com/ :D

Recording of the new song is apparently going pretty well:
Quote
12/02/2010
Ray Hearne will be entering the studio this Sunday to record the drums for a one-off tune as a demo for the forthcoming album !
Quote
12/13/2010
Guitars are almost done now - Charlie Griffiths is just in the process of double-tracking it all on his mighty 8-string !
Quote
12/15/2010
Tom MacLean is now in the process of recording some of the heaviest, lyrical, groovin' bass licks you'll ever hear ! The track is starting to come there !

There are also some photos from the studio: https://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=309320&id=102787549743

Hi guys,

We've set up a Haken forum! It would be great to chat to some of you there:

https://hakenmusic.forumactif.com/forum

As Rich said, we've been working on a demo song over Christmas, we're currently in the process of mixing it. This song will hopefully be made available for download once it's complete, and will also be on our second album, which we hope to release in September 2011.

I'll keep you informed.

Aquarius is an amazing album.
"Once he had forests and mountains that were only his - listening to him. Once he would run through the summer days catching memories for ages to come. Now he is dressing this naked floor with his flesh and blood, and time passes by. His trade of pain might just have lead him to deal with consequence for some change as time passes by"

Yes indeed it is.

As I posted in the 2011 releases sticky thread, Haken should have a new album out this year. As far as I'm aware, the music is mostly or maybe entirely written, they're just jamming and practising the songs, making changes here and there where appropriate. :D

Great news!

I definitely hear strong DT influences but I think what sets this record apart from the latest DT releases is the quality of the choruses. Every song on this album has an amazing chorus.

To chime in on a couple of earlier discussions in this thread:

Growls - I don't normally like them but I think they work on the record especially considering how sparingly they are used.

The Vocalist - I think he's great. Occasionaly the vocals don't sound quite as powerful as they should but it's an incredibly honest performance and the melodies are excellent.

Hi guys,

We're hoping to release the album during the second half of next year, maybe September to coincide with our PPUSA performance. I've been working like crazy over the christmas break to finish writing it, and it's almost there now, we just need to get into the jam room to flesh certain parts out over the next few months. Ross is currently working on the lyrics as we speak, they are sounding great from what I've have heard.

Awesome, he comes up with some really nice stuff at times. On the whole they are good but every now and then he comes up with a line that is just brilliant!

Just get him to avoid another "I was fishing for my dinner"! ;)

After listening on YouTube, my copy of Aquarius came today. I was blown away by the flow of the album and the sheer brilliance of the music for a debut album.

Definitely would see you if you were ever in the Liverpool/North West England area.

Look forward to the next album so the best of luck with it.

I did laugh the first time I read that line but i'm used to it now. The lyrics overall are great and make it quite easy to follow the story.

My personal favourite is 'Are we waiting for the sun or are we drowning in the flood' partially because of the delivery too.
"Once he had forests and mountains that were only his - listening to him. Once he would run through the summer days catching memories for ages to come. Now he is dressing this naked floor with his flesh and blood, and time passes by. His trade of pain might just have lead him to deal with consequence for some change as time passes by"

What "kind" of progressive-music is this?
I don't really like Ayreon/Symphony X and some of the modern DT because i find it to be very cheesy, and i call it that mainly because of the whole cheesy keyboard-sound. :P

Its more heavy prog rock than prog metal, at least generally it is anyway.
Listen to a couple of tracks on spotify or grooveshark or their website!

Just grabbed Aquarius. Will listen to it today.

eDit: I played it last night, not bad. It felt shorter than 72 minutes and when the album ended I thought something happened and expected the next track. But nope! It was done. Decent stuff.

I just got the album on Friday and when I gave it my first listen I thought this…
Decent stuff.

I'm on my 3rd or 4th listen and now I think this…
it's really good stuff!

I believe that this holds true as well…
Every song on this album has an amazing chorus.

So, Haken and To-Mera are playing a co-headlining gig at The Peel in Kingston on March 25th! :caffeine:

I've bought tickets for Sigz and I, but any other Londoners or Brits in general should totally come along!

It's impossible to not love it. Seriously. I only listened to it for the first time like three weeks ago and I was completely blown away.
