Oh cool. Didn't know Ross played guitar, is the other band a local thing or do they have music out?
Just a local band as far as I know, not sure if he's even still doing it right now. But yeah, him, Hen and Matt Marshall (the original other guitarist that was replaced by Charlie after they recorded the demo) used to play together when they were younger.

Here's a couple:

- Favourite song to sing live
- Best gig they've had so far
- Ask about 'pizzadag'
- Ask what it does to him that they've become quite popular within the prog scene in a relatively short time
- Request to play 'Sun' live on their European dates in September
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

Definitely hit on a few of your questions in one form or another, and the interview should be up tonight or tomorrow night. :)

And I apologize in advance, it's been quite awhile since I've done an interview and the amount of uhs and ums and such are at an all time high.

Interview was enjoyed! I really liked Ross's answers. I smiled when he said that DITF is one of his favourite live tracks, because it's one of my favourite Haken songs but it seems somewhat unpopular here.

Nice interview. Ross seemed a little nervous at some questions but overall he was cool.

As he said, Mason is going to do a full (and English!) review soon.

All I will say is that this is my favorite Haken release yet. And whereas Ross mentioned how they are going new places and trying new things I personally found the greatest strength of the album was how they took the best elements from Aquarius and Visions and elevated them to new excellence on this album. I think anybody who has liked them so far is really going to dig this record.

That's because translating German is ridiculously difficult. Lots of words with slightly different meanings and lots of words glued together, forming words that don't even exist in other languages.

Cool, I'll listen tonight!

I think I mentioned it before, but 'Atlas Stoned' makes me think of Rosetta Stoned by Tool, which is ironic because I found Pareidolia to have Tool influence.

Just got round to hearing the interview with Ross, nice one Nick! Definitely good to hear that DITF is his favourite to sing live as it's probably still my favourite Haken song, so I'm happy if they keep playing it.

Also, definitely intrigued by his comments on Because It's There.

Nice interview Nick!

You led it off with a pretty tough question, though Ross seemed blissfully unaware regarding the mixed reaction toward his vocals.

As far as I know he's not much of an internet forum user, so I doubt he'd see much of the criticism (although to be honest it's not even very extensive anyway). He uses Facebook a lot but generally everything that happens on there is really positive towards them!

Yeah back when they first started he was definitely the weak link, but even by the time they recorded the final demo songs (Blind, Black Seed and Sleeping Thoughts Wake) he had improved quite a bit. And by the time Aquarius was recorded I was sold on him; I love the unique quality that his voice has, and he's really strengthened it to the point where that quality is genuinely engaging.

A lot of prog metal bands these days seem to really try to emulate JLB or Geoff Tate when it comes to vocals, it's nice to see someone like Ross who has his own personality. The best part is he gets lightyears better with each album. I think he's awesome.

I've always liked Ross's vocals and, judging by "Atlas Stone," he's only getting better. :)

I really enjoyed the last album and these two tracks are very good. I certainly hear alot of DT in there, which is no bad thing and probably what draws me in. And people complain that the new DT single has bits that sound like other DT songs, it's probably dodgier when other bands do it.
In fact Haken are probably the band DT would be if they went in a proggier direction than the metal direction.

That 2nd song tickles my Eastern melody bone- and my love of Blackmore and Myrath.

So yeah, I'll be getting this.

It was all right. I feel kind of bad because everyone else is raving over it.... I should probably listen to it again.

:lol    It's interesting how much my opinion has changed. I've been listening to Atlas Stone constantly today, and even when I'm not it's stuck in my head.
