JR mentioned that they were looking for someone who "fit like a glove." So far from the auditions, Mangini is the only one who really seems to fit that tight with the band. Minneman is a monster, but I'm just not sure about the fit after seeing Mangini's passion and understanding of this "gig."

I didn't like Mike Mangini at first. He just seemed... slimy and gay. :-) But seeing how he put himself into the audition and how well he did, I'm now rooting for him. :metal

Wow, very interesting comment by Derek. And I wouldn't be surprised at all if a lot of the final decision came down to the amount of commitment the drummer is willing to do.

he posts a few times in other pages, but this one stood out to me...

his comment about outside projects makes no sense. HELLO!!! jelly jam, OSI, LTE, etc etc...

A couple of points:
- Those project always had to take the backseat against DT efforts, they were only happening when there was DT downtime
- A new drummer would have to "shut up and play" for a good amount of time. If the new drummer appeared in a side project a year after joining DT, the rumor mills would go spinning like crazy.

It's a shame that there will be no suprise to tomorrow's episode.

Hopefully Mangini just brings something fresh to the new record.

The Marco/Jordan/Petrucci thing will be awesome if it comes to fruition.

Roddy's comments are interesting, but they're also a bit spoiling. Also, he keeps saying drummers are "pissed" about how they were portrayed in the documentary. Why? Does that mean he's pissed, and just wants to hide behind a general statement?

Here's another one of his posts that was quite revealing;

"The whole thing with all us guys audition footage is....you're seeing 5 minutes (of what some editor thinks.... is creating "drama" for reality TV)
If you notice.....all of the drummers with the exception of Mike was presented as if they had a "flaw" in their playing.....and that certainly wasn't the case.
What you didn't see are the 2 hours and 55 minutes of kick ass jams, tunes played exact, etc......each drummer had.

Another thing that needs to be considered in my case is.....
I auditioned for DT because I was asked.......not because I wanted to be the new DT drummer.
Too much commitment for me to stop what I have going on in my life.

I have a snake collection (over 100 animals) that has generated more income than DT would be able to pay me. For me to stop that.......would take a lot.

This drum thing is fun and all but, it doesn't make up even half of my yearly income.
For me to consider that gig....meant I had to move out of a really big passion (and security) to do something......I've done already (touring) and am doing still through education and my own projects.

One of the questioned asked by RR was "how would getting this gig change your life"

My answer was....."I'm not looking to change my life."
That was a big shock to everyone listening! Haha.

Cheers,
D"

I mean that's just a matter of not being foolish enough to post about that kinda stuff on the forum of the guy who left the band.  That's not to say this place doesn't have rules though. ;)

It's easy to say " Oh, I didn't want the job anyway " after you didn't get it.

If you didn't want the job in the first place, don't audition.

Don't know if this has been talked about anywhere here (if so I apologize). I was wondering if DT invited other drummers besides the 7 that auditioned. and the drummer said no thanks.

Agreed. I'm sure there is an element of not being sure about the commitment just taking advantage of the opportunity because it came up rather than being really committed, but there's not really any need to say "Oh I didn't really want it anyway" afterwards.

Quote
Another thing as well.....some of the other drummers are pissed at the way they were presented in this Doc.....for example you got the feeling that Marco and Thomas WANTED that gig.....I know that they might have taken it but, they weren't going to cry over not getting it.

In fact, one of them told me that it would destroy everything they loved about what they are doing with music. They couldn't do outside projects, HAD TO be there for DT 100% of the time, etc.....that's not something a drummer like Marco is wanting to do.....you know.
Would he have taken it?.....I can't say that he would have....knowing him the way I do.

This part I think is pretty bad. Even if other drummers did feel that way it's up to them whether they want to say that, and presumably they didn't because they want to be respectful.

He's talking like the documentary portraying Marco and Lang as if they actually WANTED the gig was a bad thing. Anyone who didn't want it shouldn't have been there. Nobody gives a shit about his snakes.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I suddenly got so defensive but a lot of Roddy's comments on his forum just seem like examples of the mantra that some things are best left unsaid. Just seemed in poor taste.

I hear you.  It's like, if the only things you can think of to post just smack of bitterness about not getting a drum gig, or are just silly pics of Emperor Palpatine, why bother, right?
