Ooooh, I love that stuff. That's really easy. They usually ask me to do it at my job because I do the conversions in my head, instead of them downloading a subnet calculator or something.

So I decided to go to McDonald's during my lunch break.  As I'm pulling up I see these 2 really cure girls walking in.  And then I wind up sitting at the table next to theirs.  Like...  These chicks are hot.  As I'm  sitting here letting myself natural glance over towards them occasionally .. It hits me.  I'm across the street from a high school.. It's an open campus and they are on their lunch break.  I'm a perve.

Breaks and lunch breaks feel like I'm in high school again.  The few trainees left in my building with me act like they're 16.  I'm sitting in the break room listening to some of these conversations they're having.  Ugh.  Even worse...  I look like the loner (just like high school).  Sitting in the corner with my headphones in (no music playing)  staring out the window.

I studied this stuff so much and besides basic binary to decimal, I can't do this in my head anymore.  Especially subnettting.  Screw it, I use a calculator.  It's important to understand the meaning behind the math you are doing and the importance of the subnet and network part of an IP address, but figuring this shit out without a subnet calculator during crunchtime in a production environment just isn't worth my time or potential mistake.  Still cool that you know it, I think that's the first part to becoming a network engineer (actually knowing how to subnet). 

However, for an exam, you better know this shit by heart!

It's one of the most important aspects of the exam. It shows up in random questions. The only advice I can give Reaper is to know his multiples of 16 since they use the 255.255.255.240 subnet mask the most on the exams.

Do you know what makes it easy to memorize the subnetting? Everything is a pattern. The numbers aren't random at all so once you do the problems over and over it sticks in your head because you start to realize you've done these problems before.

Still blowing cold, keeping the house cool, but it's a Freon unit that they don't support anymore because of government regulations and it's showing signs of breaking down. Low on Freon, guy says he doesn't think it will last a hot summer. So, new system here we come. *sigh* The joys of home ownership.

Had a similar issue, my old freon unit needed to be replaced a few weeks ago (the freon was actually leaking and causing anyone in the house to get "high" from the smell  ), I posted about it here if interested

That's so neat, I need a to get an IT job stat. I would take a 50% pay cut to get into IT but no one wants to hire me

Not my house but my boss just came home to her vacation house here in florida. I went in before she arrived and set the ac down. Both units died while she was gone, I think she paid close to $15,000 to replace them.

Yep, roughly that. It's actually being replaced today, so hopefully by the time I'm home, it will be nearing completion. My wife is a saint and a hero for handling the kids today during this.
