Can you not see it wasn't just Bosk who thought your comment was odd?

Is it that difficult to sense that the people here generally really like the song and consider it to be well liked amongst fans? If that's the case how can it possibly be "criminally" underrated? I mean a case could be made that it's slightly underrated, that fans like it a good deal but should perhaps like it a tad more, but to say it's criminally underrated seems to be completely out of left field.

Edit: On a side note, I will say that Trial of Tears is criminally underrated. See how silly that sounds? Sure, it's not as popular as A Change of Seasons or Octavarium, but it's regularly voted either the best or 2nd best on the album and certainly a fan favorite overall.

Well, you can debate whether criminally is too a strong a word if you like, but bosk1 was saying that to call it underrated at all implied that I didn't know what I was talking about. That just seems like a pointless way of dismissing someone elses perspective entirely, as I already said.

My favourite is V, for Communion and the Oracle, Rediscovery, Pt. 2: The New Mythology, The Death of Balance/Lacrymosa, On the Breath of Poseidon, and (to a lesser extent) Fallen. It's very closely followed by Dark Wings, for the title track and The Accolade. Then it's Twilight in Olympus, for Smoke and Mirrors, Church of The Machine, Lady of the Snow, and my all-time favourite SX track, Through the Looking Glass.

No need to thank me for breaking the tension...   ;)

Divine Wings of Tragedy is probably the best representation of their sound (Damnation, Twilight, Odyssey are all similar though not quite as good). After that, pick up V and Paradise Lost to get their most prog and their most heavy albums, and then cycle back to get whatever albums you missed.

The Odyssey is the best to start with.

This. And in that order
on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

What? It's a 10/10 album

10/10 in your rating, or critics?

Damnation Game is not bad, actually good, but the point is there are better albums.

By my rating.

And according to me there aren't better albums. It's my favorite. Don't try to tell me I'm wrong because every suggestion in this thread is subjective

I'm not going to tell you you're wrong, I am however going to say in a thread when someone asks for an album recommendation from a band they're thinking of getting into you should generally try suggesting an album that is held to be good by the general fan base. I'm not saying to disregard your own opinion, but you should probably mention your favorite of the albums that are generally held to be the band's best, which would be anything from Divine to Odyssey.

In short, although you might find Damnation to be their best, judging by the fan base at large he has a much greater chance of enjoying one of the other albums I mentioned.

Edit: For example, Scarsick is my favorite Pain of Salvation album, but I know it's disliked by a large part of the PoS fan base, so if I were to give a serious recommendation I'd go with either Remedy Lane or The Perfect Element.

Thank you for your input folks. But after looking up the CDs on wiki I have decided to go with The Odyssey. A 24 minute song inspired by the story The Odyssey is too tempting for me.
