Haken Survivor Main Thread (https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=48779.0)
---
Visions has come to an end, and so we arrive at Haken's third album. This is coincidentally the album that attracted the most 'new' fans to Haken's music and is generally regarded as a fan favourite, for reasons that are fairly obvious; the song-writing has matured on this record, the songs are more cohesive and a sense, and the lack of an over-arching concept made for songs that worked better individually as well.
Despite not having a story, the album is based on a central theme: overcoming obstacles. With lyrics by every single band member for the first in their short history, the album speaks to people on a different level. No weird stories about mermaids or Groundhog Day-ish recurring events, but real things that everybody could relate to.... (*couch*roach ki*cough*).
While this is not my personal favourite Haken album, I do believe there's many great tracks on here. I'm curious to see what will happen to the results of this album's survivor, after the very strange turn of events in the Visions one.
I'm not sure yet what to vote for first. I'll listen to the album between now and the end of this first poll.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be very disappointed with the results here, since I really dislike Atlas Stone and Cockroach King and everyone else seems to love them. I'd like to see As Death Embraces stay a while too.
But I guess as long as Pareidolia makes finals it's not gonna be that bad.

That Somebody vote already makes me angry.

Imagine how I felt with all the Portals votes in round 1 :lol

The difference is that Somebody is actually a good song

the song is basically a visions track tbh. it's still solid (since this album rules) but it's easily the weakest here

I know! I made the poll
I can elaborate, of course. In Memoriam isn't really a bad track at all, but it's the least distinctive and least 'original', for lack of a better word, on an album full of different sounding songs. Parama stated above that it sounds like it could have been on Visions. I had never thought of that before, but I have to agree. Not a bad sinf, but it's not at all interesting in the grand scope of things.

As obvious as could sound, something different is not always a good thing (not saying you have said that either); and in this particular case I think it isn't.. I enjoy a lot The Mountain, but it's the most irregular album of the band.. I don't like at all the song I voted (ADE) and I don't consider it to be much better than BiT and the two first tracks.. But then I have the excellent song FBtE is, and the other amazing ones as CK, Somedoby and In Memoriam.. About this one, I absolutely love its chorus, and really like the verses... and specially the final section.. Song goes straight to the point, unlike othErs that don't Precisely have the right cohesion and overextend without leaving much to appreciate..
