educate:

Reuters reported that Ronald Reagan started the military salute in 1981 and added:

"Reagan's decision raised eyebrows at the time. Dwight Eisenhower, a former five-star general, did not return military salutes while president. Nor had other presidents. John Kline, then Reagan’s military aide and now a Minnesota congressman, advised him that it went against military protocol for presidents to return salutes. Kline said in a 2004 op-ed piece in The Hill that Reagan ultimately took up the issue with Gen. Robert Barrow, then commandant of the Marine Corps. Barrow told Reagan that as commander in chief of the armed forces, he was entitled to offer a salute — or any sign of respect he wished — to anyone he wished, Kline wrote, adding he was glad for the change. Every president since Reagan has followed that practice, even those with no military experience."
Is all that we see or seem, but a dream within a dream?

Returning a salute makes sense to me.  He is the Commander in Chief, and even if he has no military background, that is a military title and he is being saluted by military personnel.  To not return the salute seems to me like a snub.

Interesting, therefore, that President Eisenhower, a.k.a. General Eisenhower, did not return salutes.  All I can figure is that he wanted to make some kind of distinction between his position as President, a non-military role even if he's Commander in Chief, and his former status as a General.

As for people stirring up shit about President Obama saluting whilst holding a cup of coffee, I agree that that's kinduv bad form, but to hold that up as some kind of example of how he disrespects our military is just stupid shit-stirring.  President Bush returned a salute whilst holding a fucking dog, and it was a pretty lame salute overall.

On a related note, and because this is the internet and thus Hitler analogies are perfectly acceptable: I always thought it was kinda hilarious how the one guy who could get away with (Hitler himself) did the absolute shittiest version of the greeting.

in the interest of fairness, don't you think you should post the second photo that shows Obama choking the poor guy to death with his own medal?

Then I'm a stupid shit-stirrer.  I'd put it next to my avatar if I knew how to do it.

First, I never said the Bush salute was good, bad or otherwise.   I saw the one gif, with the cavalier, "I'm too cool for school" salute with the coffee in his hand and commented on it.  I would do so again.

Second, that he might have done it right 10 other times is immaterial.    Does Wesley Snipes get to skip jail time for tax fraud because he filed his taxes correctly ten other times before that?   Does Ted Bundy get a pass because he gave 10 other women rides in his VW and DIDN'T kill them?   Does Lance Armstrong get a pass because he passed all those other drug tests?   To me, that he did do it right in the past makes it WORSE, because he KNOWS better.

At the L.A. Fitness where I work out, the front line is all treadmills, and the next line is all elipticals.  Behind that are the weight machines.  My doctor recommended 30 minutes of cardio, three times a week.  I always go with eliptical, and it being a better workout has nothing to do with it.  I'm there for 30 minutes with a row of treadmills in front of me, and women prefer treadmills to elipticals.  Who says working out is boring?

I'm not a huge fan, but doctor's orders, iPod for 30 minutes, and the scenery is nice.

While watching this, I thought I would immediately do something like below, glad I am just a normal dude:

Shit I need to start working out.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Maybe it's because MA/Boston is reasonably fit in general, but isn't there always that one crazy-hot chick at the gym?

The Club Fitness I work out at has a good 10-15 chics...plus the girls they have working there that are essentially that girl on the treadmill. I don't like going there with my wife because it's physically impossible not to look....and she's busted me a few times.
