This makes me want a newly recorded performance of SFAM so badly.  Very pumped to get this Blu-ray!

i always have this feeling that mangini is slowing the band down.
thats especially in the middle section at 2:58 where labrie starts singing again. i feel like labrie wants to sing faster and petrucci also plays faster but mangini is holding the tempo like a machine. because of this i feel the music is clumsy? i dont know if its the right word. i havent had that feeling with portnoy though

I am officially stoked for this DVD.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I can still barely hear the orchestra or the choir at all. It's like they're not even there. :/

Literally, he probably is. I don't feel like he's "holding them back" (not saying that's what you're saying), but he definitely has a grip of the tempo and won't let go. The Live Scenes version of this song (and Beyond This Life) are cruisin' due to Portnoy speeding up the tempo, and the rest of the guys following along. But it seems that MM plays at album tempo when playing live, and my ears aren't used to that. As I Am from the Happy Holidays record also suffers from this.
I don't want MP playing with DT unless they were making a drummer change. If they let MM go and bring back MP, then fine, but no guest appearance please.
WELP.

Mangini plays to a click track. The original studio verson click track. What you're hearing is the original tempo of the song.

Also, I don't know in which speakers are you guys that don't listen the orchestra/choir are listening this. I hear'em just nice.

At first I was like: "what's this? I can't hear string." But then I realised I have my awful earphones on which destroy middle and high frequencies (but it works with great equalizer on PowerAmp). So I took better ones. Anyway... I'm happy to hear this, one of my favourite songs in this arrangement, strings, choir and ,what makes me happy, audible bass and bass drums. Terrific performance, too.

Haha, noticed it immediately. Another weird thing is the orchestra drums @ 1:30, took off my headphones for a second because I thought a plane was taking off in the neighborhood. Also, they guy behind the console @ 3:04.:lol

Really loving the sound, warm and balanced, crisp and lively. The drum sound is fantastic, huge and fat. The visuals are nice (plus points for showing Mike's feet), the performance is top notch (that JP guitar fill @ 3:10), this is shaping up to be one of their best live releases yet.

Sycsa is perhaps the most brilliant and insightful man I have ever encountered.

You guys need to hear Illumination Theory with full volume. If I was from the committee I'd definitely give the grammy.

To both of you - the band plays along to a click track now hence the timing being totally in sync with studio albums. This started during ADTOE tour.

At the end, love the perfectly placed "Dio hands" in between JM and James and James and JP! :metal

I love that straight over the crowd full stage shot. Very cool.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Yeah, the ploddingness of the second half stood out, and yeah, it's due to the click track.
