I'm thinking about reading Atlas Shrugged over the summer, what do you guys think?
I'm planning on buying it as soon as I land in the US. I've heard great things about John Galt.

I just finished rereading Ender's Game, so now I'm working my way through the saga, and I also picked up Ender's Shadow yesterday, as well. I'm also nearly through with The Cartoon History of the Universe, Part 3 (Very interesting series, I recommend them for anyone who wants a walk through history told in an extremely lighthearted manner), and I'll be starting with ...Of the Modern World, Part 1 soon.

And then I also picked up The Culture of Fear and The Spartacus War. You know, for some light bedtime reading.

Please, feel free to do so. :lol

Although my pleasure reading is on hold till the end of my summer semester. Then in the span of 10 days I'm going to try and read the new Terra Incognita novel by KJA, "The Map of All Things", and "The Dreaming Void" by Peter Hamilton.

:lol I keep all my non-fiction as reference material, the fiction I mainly keep in case I want to go back and read it or loan it out. Speaking of which I might try and squeeze a fresh read of 1984 into those 10 days as well.

Just started "A History of the English-Speaking Peoples" by Winston Churchill. He really writes superbly, very interesting stuff  :tup

AnOther, a compilation of avant garde poems by E.E. Cummings.
"Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush? They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us; they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them."

Just finifhed Black Hills by Dan Simmons.  Easily one of the best novels I have readd in a while.  I highly reccomend it to anyone interested in historical fiction, surrounding the genocide of the Native Americans in the late 1800's.

A little ways through His Majesty's Dragon which is mindblowingly awesome thus far despite the lame title. Next up is Perdido Street Station, which I've only read a few pages of. It's pretty weird thus far, case in point:

Quote
Isaac watched the huge iridescent scarab that was his lover’s head devour her
breakfast.

He watched her swallow, saw her throat bob where the pale in-sectile underbelly
segued smoothly into her human neck ... not that she would have accepted that
description. Humans have khepri bodies, legs, hands; and the heads of shaved
gibbons, she had once told him.

He smiled and dangled his fried pork in front of him, curled his tongue around it,
wiped his greasy fingers on the table. He smiled at her. She undulated her headlegs at
him and signed, My monster.

I am a pervert, thought Isaac, and so is she.

But I've heard great things about it, so we shall see.

Good book, but Pillars was amazing

Being ambitious and reading Edward Gibbon's History Of The Fall And Decline Of The Roman Empire. I'd say I'm a third a way into the first volume

Following the logic of other Empires (like the one that struck back), I will guess that volume two will be the best in the trilogy you're reading.

Yeah, Pillars was definately one of the best books I've read. The characters all had personality and life, and you really felt for them. World Without End was ok, but isnt even close to the epicnocity of Pillars.

Sounds more like a list for someone getting their Master's in education; very interesting, though.

Not as interesting as last year's Summer reading (The Odyssey, Fahrenheit 451, and The Alchemist), but still kinda looking forward to it, but not, on the other hand, the multiple essays and assignments attached to them.

Seriously, what's the point of all that? I had to read like two short books over the summer for AP language, and even those don't help for the AP test, as it's language, not literature. High school is fucking retarded.

I dunno... the worst part is is that all the work is incredibly tedious. On the bright side, one of the three assignments for AP US is to write about how American society is defined and displayed through social groups, activities, etc... at a parade/fair/sporting event/music festival that you attended over the summer, and I'll be doing it on Ozzfest 2010 (inb4 lolozzfest, even though I know it's inevitably coming).
