  • Oh my God, LHK is posting! How can that be?

Just finished Suzanne Collins' "Catching Fire", the sequel to "The Hunger Games", a pretty dark concept about a post-apocalyptic America that forces two kids from each district/state to compete to the death in some sort of morbid reality show. I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it at 3:30 last night.

At work, I'm working through Matt Ridley's "The Red Queen", an explanation of why sex developed and why it continues.

Next, I'll probably tackle Margaret Atwood's "The Year of the Flood", her follow up to what may be my favorite book of all time, "Oryx & Crake".
HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!  THIS is why LHK is the President of Awesome.

Why is everything you post the best thing ever said?  :lol

LHK is beyond EPIC.

The Merchant of Venice.  It's scene 3 and we've just met Shylock.  I'm hating this play already.

Just finished The Lost Symbol. Lots of cool real-world stuff that goes beyond a simple novel.

On to Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury and The Sign of Four (Sherlock Holmes) for school.

Oooh, one of my favorite Bradbury novels, right next to Dandelion Wine.   I personally am on "The Accidental Time Machine" by Joe Haldeman, a whimsical and fun read.

Actually, I was asking myself that yesterday. I don't think their connected other than the same title.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

I think I remember someone else mentioning the book way earlier in the thread, but today I bought The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

I just started rereading the His Dark Materials-triology by Philip Pullman.

Seriously. Those books are the best I've ever read. If you're into fantasy and haven't read them yet, do it.
I've started the first book of these twice, and stopped, twice. Not that I didn't like it, but both times, I've started it, and it just hasn't been what I wanted at the time.

Just finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, pretty good book.

I usually don't read too much, especially not English, but I'm hoping to binge in the next little while, so I'm stocked up. In my pile:

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Educating Rita
The Tempest
Catch 22
Heart of Darkness (read this before)
Alice in Wonderland

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Pretty easy to read. Sometimes entertaining. You could deduce the ending by page 36. It's more a book for teens.

I've always been curious (for lack of a better word) about this book and never got round to it. I almost bought it in the airport on the way to Germany. I get to school here and one of my classes has just finished reading it. It's just so in the foreground at the moment, it's not hard to give myself a push.

Dante - The Divine Comedy
Probably the single greatest piece of literature ever writen.

I won't pick it up until I'm certain I have a good translation in my hands.

It's an easy read and you'll get a smile on your face.

I'm currently by the half of "The Fountainhead" and I'm really loving it. It's been a long long time since I picked up a book I didn't wanted to put down. That's why I'm glad it's extremely long! :D

Thick?
Not sure what you mean.
But my version is divided into the three parts, with extensive introductions, appedeces, and notes.
Seems to be well translated and even has the Italian included. Some nice black and white illustrations too.
Nice and poetic while still readable, and makes you able to appreciate the allegory.

Almost finished reading Runes of the Earth by Stephen R. Donaldson. It's the seventh book in the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.

Damn good sci-fi series. And it's not even finished yet. The 9th book will be released next year, and the final book a few years after that.

I just finished listening to 'The Silver Chair' by CS Lewis.  (And before you all make fun of me for listening to audio books, I have an hour and a half each way commute to work every day and if it wasn't for audio books I don't know what the hell I would do).  And for what it's worth, I have actually read most of the Chronicles of Narnia.

I'm also in the process of re-listening/reading all of the Harry Potter books.  Monday I will begin The Goblet of Fire again.

And for an actual book, I started reading The Virgin Blue by Tracey Chevalier.  She's the one that takes all those classic paintings and creates fiction stories out of them.  I'm not very far into it yet, but so far so good.  I saw the movie version of Girl with the Pearl Earring (with Scarlett Johanssen) and I loved it so much I wanted to read the book.  While this is the one instance where I actually liked the movie better than the book, I liked the book enough to want to read the rest of Chevalier's novels.
I'd kill myself for you.

Struggling through a re-reading of James the Brother of Jesus by Robert Eisenman.  Very dense scholarly academic material, around a thousand pages, small font, with endnotes.  After this, some light fiction, methinks.

Curious Incident and Educating Rita were both pretty good, if not jawdropping.

At the moment, I'm reading The Penguin History of New Zealand, which is pretty fascinating so far. So convenient to be able to read one book, around 500 pages, that covers all the must-know elements of your country's history.

I'm reading Death Star by Micheal Reaves and Steve Perry.
It's a good story, like all Star Wars stories, but it's a bit more complex.
It follows like 15 different characters and how they all get drawn to the Death Star before it's unsuspecting destruction. It's interesting reading it, knowing that most, if not all, of the characters will die on the spacestation.

Just finished re-reading Watership Down by Richard Adams. If you haven't read it, it might be just the trick.  Well written, epic tale of bravery and heroism about a group of rabbits(yes, rabbits, trust me, it rocks) trying to find a new home.

I've finished the main part of The Evolution of God, currently just finishing the afterword.

After this I'm going to do at least a power reading through the bible and finally get at least a half reading of it under my belt, as its something I've been meaning to do for a long time. Also, I think I'll be ordering a Qur'an for reading afterwords.

The Homecoming Saga by Orson Scott Card.  Currently on the third book "The Ships of Earth".

Anyone else a fan of OSC?  I loved the Ender's Game series, as well as "Lost Boys".  Such a powerful ending.
