i suggest you give this new album a fair chance. i believe it to be much better than their debut. (which i liked alot, this one is just stronger for every member) if you dont dig it then you probably never will, which is fine.

all the guitar solos on the cd are great. both guests and members

I think the vocals are what turned me off, and from the samples I've heard it seems they've changed that up this time around. Did they ever release an instrumental version of the first record?

Aye. I think the biggest change though are the vocal melodies and styles. The 1st album was a collection of Misha riffs, with vocals on top from three different vocalists recording them over the pasted riffs.

Now, it was more of a collective effort, and more room for Spencer to try many different approaches. I cannot remember one vocal melody from the 1st, and mainly because none of them really repeated. That is absolutely not the case on the 2nd album, with many choruses repeating at least twice.

The one thing I worry about is if Spencer will throw his voice out down the road. He has some high and aggressive parts.

You don't remember any vocal melodies from the first one? I think it has some awesome vocal melodies that really sticks with you (me). But you're right about them not repeating much.

yea spencer writing his own melodies and taking time to craft the vocals is really what makes this record that much more awesome.

spencer is great in this band. so much better than chris. casey is like a unicorn in the band's history, incredible but still sort of a mystery, only singing on like 2 and a half songs. sucks he wasnt in to it. but they certainly aren't settling with spencer

im at work so i cant provide youtube links

but he wrote the vocals for icarus lives, the last section of insomnia, and inertia. if you search those songs with his name on youtube, you would probably get the right versions

full name: casey sabol

edit: casey is also a guest vocalist on racecar for about 5 seconds. @5:56 in the song

Here's a part of the Juggernaut album with Casey's vocals. It's my favorite thing Misha's ever done:

Major thanks to the person that posted up the JP Solo link.  Without seeing that I probobly wouldn't have heard about this band.  I'm not totally sold yet, but I'm really digging Make Total Destroy, Jetpacks, and a few others I've listened to.  This band is so tight, I love it.  I don't dislike the vocals, and I think that they add a lot to the style of the music.  But the band, OMG!  I'm gonna pick up the new album and see where that takes me.

i love spencer but i cant listen to the new versions of icarus lives. casey owns it, and is the man responsible for opening up the band to the half screaming/half singing vocal style

I definitely agree with this. Its really nice to know the back stories behind each track and how they're basically put together/how they came about. I'm really excited for Ragnarok, The Gods Must Be Crazy, Erised, and Masamune's in depth analysis when they are eventually posted in the coming days.

His vocals are great, but like Spencer's more. That is probably because I've gotten used to it by now.

Ooh, I'd say Make Total Destroy and Erised... but the first two are just about as powerful. Actually, it's a tough choice  :mehlin

Just got my tickets to see these guys and BTBAM in Cleveland on Aug 14th.

Dude... Periphery's going to be in San Antonio the 26th and then Chimp Spanner's going to be in San Antonio the 27th... how awesome is that!

I don't know what it is about those two, but for some reason, they just feel so powerful to me. I was listening to it in my car for the first time, and with my stereo system it just had a killer sound and feel to me. I don't know what it is but those first two really get me psyched, then the album just continues from there with epic song after epic song! Overall this album kicks so much ass  :metal
