I went into the video skeptical and certain that I would be totally indifferent, but the longer the video went on, the more it won me over. Don't get me wrong, Steven Wilson is still one of my favorite musicians, and I will buy anything he puts out. But if this had been a straight follow-up in the 70s prog rock sound again, I would probably only buy it on autopilot, but basically everything he said about the album was great IMO.
+Variety and more influences (he does Prog great, but he is talented at so many genres, so I love this)
+Mix between long songs and short
+Keeping the same band (because at this point I really love the band)
+SW letting go of the prog and jazz elements might suggest a PT reunion is more likely now than it was a year ago (or maybe I'm just hoping)
The only part I feel a slight worry about is that, trying to pull off an album with a lot of variety can be tricky. While Raven was my least favorite album out of his solo albums, it's still very cohesive and consistent, and the overall theme is great. Making an album that kinda goes all over the place is harder, because it's hard to keep that feeling. But he pulled it off on Insurgentes (which was a bit here and there), and if anyone can craft an album it's SW, so I think the doubts are gone for now. And a duet at the end? Holy shit.
So yeah, from being a bit lukewarm and not overly excited, I feel like these comments re-awakened the excitement again.
