As always, it's nice when people's pick names are identifiable. Also, don't be the guy that abandons his pick set just because he forgets a week and blows his chances. We all hate that guy.

Joined. Hopefully I don't forget to save my picks for multiple weeks like I did last time. Thanks for running it again.

In, and ready to bring my mediocrity to the table!

I’m excited to be in it until the last three weeks, at which point I will, as always, make some dumb picks and lose.

Maybe a long day on my side, are you saying to just not abandon the game as the season goes on?
Also, can I verify that we cannot pick until 9/5?

Steady on lad.
Took me a couple years to figure it out, but he does that every year. :)
-
I never win, but I've never finished more than 8 games back at the end of the regular season, so I've been proud of my efforts.
Finally signed up and made my picks today. Let the >:( :censored begin!

Yes. EVERY YEAR there is someone that fails to get their picks in - usually around week five or six - and then abandons the picks for the rest of the year. :)

Picks made. We'll see how it goes!

Thank you :lol just wasn't sure (and I am equally as tired today)

You know what's funny? I post that every year and it never made any difference. Until recently, that is. The last two years it's seemed like people would miss a week here and a week there, but kept on participating out of courtesy, appreciated, but I found that it makes it impossible to tell who's screwed up along the way and who just sucks. I'm not sure it's any better than seeing a team just locked at 31pts. :lol
-
I can't believe nobody took Det tonight. I'm certain a whole lot of us thought this was a very possible outcome, but none of us had the balls to actually bank on it.
-
Believe me I was very close to taking Detroit. With Kelce's status in doubt, I thought for sure the Lions would have the edge. Should've listened to my gut.

Yeah, I wasn't crying about the outcome, but I wasn't willing to risk being one game behind everyone else if it didn't come to fruition. Not this early in the season.
-
Almost switched with Kelce out. I will say, as a Bears fan, Detroit looks scary and I think they might be the team to beat in the division.

GB will be similarly improved. I flip-flopped a couple of times between Det and GB, before settling on the latter for the division. I've still got Det as a wildcard.
-
I was going to mention that I was close to picking Det, but I went for the "easy" out with that pick.
-
Reminder to myself, and others: picks are due 5 minutes before game time. I got home, logged on knowing it wasn't game time yet, and was locked out of tonight's pick as it was within the 5 minute window.
-
I was dead last in week 1, then had the most wins in week 2 (along with Cool Chris), week 3 was also good for me.
-
Week 1 and 3 were just awful for me.
-

Same. Just a mess right now.

Irksome. Switched from the Rams to the Colts with literally a minute to spare before the cut-off.

I as a rule NEVER switch picks, but I came THISCLOSE to switching the Cleveland game, and then opted not to. I think what bugs me is that of my losses, more than half weren't even close games. Cincinnati?

I don't know as I would have switched the Browns even had I known about Watson. In truth it was their D that made them the right pick, and I was never expecting DeShawn to be the second coming of Warren Moon. In truth, his absence probably is why they lost, though.
-
Man, I'm on track for 14 pts this week. Wonder how quickly I'll blow this. I made those picks during last Sunday nights game and rolled with them.
-
I'm not blaming anyone but myself, I own it, but a little frustrated that the Yahoo app gives different information than the Yahoo desktop interface. I don't have a system per se, but I use the information there in order to inform my picks, and both the game last night and the Rams game on Sunday, my picks would have been different depending on what source I used. Not saying I would have made the RIGHT pick, I'm just saying that you'd think the same source would have the same information. Grrrrrr.
-
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I hate the fact that they arrange it by who's favored. I would prefer it just list the games in order and show who is home and who is away and leave it at that. That's one reason I have decided to make my picks on Sunday night. They don't seem to be oriented by who's favored at that point. I don't need something getting in my head. I need to go with my gut with no outside influence.
-
^Agreed. And sometimes I don't get why some teams are in the underdog column.
-
^
Sometimes I have about ten minutes to make my picks, and my subconscious mind reads the first team as the road team.
anyhoo....so far, I'm 1-7 on my Ravens and Lions picks. :tdwn

It seems like every year there's a team or two that I just can't get a read on. For me it's been Cinci and Cle this year.

Same, Barto. I hesitate every time I want to pick the Bengals.

Or pick against them. They're just unpredictable.

They're going to finish 11-6 or better if I do that.

Anyone else enjoy that game last night? I lost - but so did everyone else. It was fun to watch the enthusiasm that the Bears brought even after 14 straight losses, and I love how Matt Eberflus coached with some balls, not from a place of fear.
I also like what I saw - admittedly, one game, and I dozed a bit during the middle - from both quarterbacks. They both can throw the damn football, for sure.
-
Absolutely no one here expected them to compete, let alone win that game. Local news was down, and everyone I talk to was dreading watching the game last night. Maybe Butkus sprinkled some magic or something on them. Fields is looking like a star again.

I absolutely expected them to compete and likely win, and came very close to picking Chicago. They are a better team than WTF, and were definitely better motivated. I saw this coming in a big way. At the same time, despite being a better team they're still a bad team, and I don't like going that far out on a limb for bad teams. Had to take the safe bet and I'm kicking myself for it.
Truth be told, I was amazed that nobody here took the risk.
That 6% on yahoo is some intimidating shit, ain't it. :lol

Fortunate enough to have a neighbor whose dad subscribed back in the day. 'Most Feared Man In The Game'....not much doubt there. The old 'Black & Blue' division earned its reputation for good reason. Those games were just brutal.
I tuned in for one minute, saw those hideous unis DC was wearing (c'mon new owner, burn those suckers), and tuned right out.
-
Wow, we were all pathetic through the early games. I only picked 2 wrong games last week and only have 2 right so far this week. Can't say I have seen a universally bad week like this before.
-
My wife (who is the most casual fan ever) picks each week based on who would actually win in a fight of the mascots or what the team represents.
She is 11/12 right now (she was torn on Bills vs. Jaguars but chose Bills).
-
That Week 8 Group Picks page is a bloodbath! It looks like there are twice as many red squares as there are green ones.
-
Just looked, that is a sight for sure.
I might be able to take first place this week if my last two picks pan out.
-

Yeah truly a bloodbath. Just the 3 right so far, don't think I've ever scored that low lol.

So maybe it's just me, but does anybody really enjoy picking games anymore? I used to think this was a lot of fun, but it's just become a pointless Sunday morning chore now. It just seems like the league has changed to such a point that there's really no rhyme or reason why teams win and lose anymore. In the past when I was highly confident in a pick I'd hit more often than not. That's what made it fun. Figuring out how and why a team would win and watching it happen. Now it seems like the more confident I am in a pick the less likely they are to win. What's the point in that?
-
No, I agree, every game feels like a crapshoot. Even KC and PHI are your usual picks, generally, and you still don't know what's going to happen, like DEN beating KC.
-
I never took my picks too seriously, but I don't follow the league as much as most other participants do. It actually makes me more involved in the games and the season as a whole, keeping track of injuries, firings, and such, than I would otherwise. I do get your point though. People who put actual money on games have much larger stones than myself.
-
I find it more fun than standard fantasy which literally zapped all the fun out of football for me.
But yeah, this year has been really odd. I literally have no idea where to go most of the time. Every year in this thing I just hang out in the right in the middle of the pack. I can't break through.
-

It does prompt to me to watch games I might otherwise disregard when they're money games (or in my case whisky games). I'm not sure that's actually a good thing, though. Half the time the money games are Carolina vs Chicago or some other worthless endeavor. I'd prefer to just put the most interesting game on.

It's not you. I wasn't then, and am not now, quite as serious as you, but there are a couple games a week I liked to look into a little deeper, and I find that it really is a crapshoot. I thought I found a nugget a couple weeks ago, went back, did the math and turned out that the "nugget" resulted in a 7-6 record. :)
The NFL is scripted. ;)
-
My problem is that I've always looked for why a team would win rather than simply which team would win. Rarely it might come down to HFA (very rarely), or "they'll rally for their coach," but there would always be a reason. I missed three games this week where all of the reasons (and there were numerous reasons for each) simply didn't matter. These were the games I'd always hit on. Three good reasons was almost a lock for me, and my record here and the whisky bottles on my bookshelves demonstrate that. It just doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure why.

Nah, not really being serious, and it's sort of a running joke here. But it's hard to laugh sometimes. :) :) :)

I'm still doing better than the Ravens' beat reporter for The Baltimore Sun :D
There are a few reasons for enjoyment, or lack thereof, in regards to making picks. How well your favorite team is doing, along with how well you are doing with your picks are big factors.
Another may be fatigue. At least it is for me. In the old days, we had Sunday's to read the paper, browse the web, watch a good pregame show on ESPN, and then make our picks. And then came TNF on occasion. Now it's every week but the final few. Oh, let's not forget the handful of early Sunday European games.
I was in a couple of FF leagues in the '00s. As was my wife. They were fun. After two years, I dropped out of one. With all the Thursday games, I'm glad I did.
I'm much older now, so that may be a factor for me. Hell, I'm so old that I can remember the title game taking place before the New Year's bowl games. And later on, the Super Bowl being played in mid January in the sunshine! Now it's the weekend before Valentine's Day. Before I start yelling for someone to get off of my yard.....
'Too often......the more you have, the less you have.....'
-
I still do the Sunday morning thing. I think for me it's just that the system I've used with great success for the last 20 years simply no longer works. I never tried to pick who would win a game in as much as I'd pick why one team would win the game. Countless times this year I've made some great picks only to see them bomb, and that ruins the fun for me. I've had a couple of late game comebacks do me in. Plenty of games are decided by the refs now, and that's certainly no fun. There's simply no point to the way I approach this thing anymore. I've totally given up on it and have switched to an entirely new way of doing things, and I'll fair far better now as a result. Won't be any fun, though.
-
There's a reason it's called the No Fun League!
-
I have had two bad weeks (week 1 and this past week), so I am content with my current standing. I feel Bartoman on this, I am glad to play along with y'all but it feels more random than I had thought it would.
-
This last week was a bloodbath for me. Took some chances and paid dearly. Lowest point total I have ever had for a week.

I took no chances and it was still a bloodbath. I'm honestly surprised at how some people are doing well, all things considered.

You're telling me. I only got 5 right.

Even the pros aren't doing well. If you picked only the Vegas favorite for every game, you wouldn't be in the top three slots (at least you wouldn't be 1 or 2).
-
I forgot to get my pick in for the Lions game that's on right now. Fuck.

:lol
Happened to me last Thanksgiving by five minutes :tdwn
This year....oh, my good ol' Lions. My forlorn home team where dreams almost always turned to nightmares, until I moved to Maryland in 2000. I'd have a chance for my first perfect pick em week tonight, ...if not for my good ol' Lions. :'(
-
Woof. Another horrible week of picks. The early games were a mess.
-
Working my way to the bottom of the standings.
-
I went up a couple of places from dead last to 4th from dead last! Lookout world!
-
I was the only one to pick Buffalo, cool
-
I was the only one to pick Buffalo, cool
I gave up a few weeks ago, so my picks have no basis in reason, but I really thought Buf might win this. My oblivious picks served me pretty well this week, but things like that do bug me.

And at least recently, those two mesh up well so it's a tough one to pick.
-
I'm half tempted to go back to my picks for this week and go with the opposite of my gut. Can't be any worse than I have been doing. Easily the worst year I have had in this league.
-
Well that's my title challenge over. Had no idea there were 3 games yesterday!
-
Yeah I missed the Thursday game and the first game yesterday.
-
Down to the final two regular season weekends.
I've finished 2nd and 3rd a couple of times. Last year, I finished 7th or 8th, but was proud that I was only eight games out. After all, 1/2 a game off per week
ain't bad.
This year, I'm in second....but seven games out. Get busy with something this weekend, Stads, and don't make any picks ;)
1 Stadler's Blues 158-82
2 DragonAttack 151-89
Rattlehead 151-89
4 T-ski’s Pick-ski’s 148-92

Yeah, like clearing your inbox or something.
-
Go and make a few posts arguing for "common sense" changes in P/R, that should keep him tied up
-
In a bid to catch Stadler I hurled the mother of all hail Marys last week by voting for pretty much every underdog. The results were hilariously disastrous. The one week of the whole fuckin' season when basically every game went to the favourite.
-
Wonder what the biggest difference between first and second has been. Seven games is pretty significant.

Ugh, teams are starting to bench starters for the last week. As if this season couldn't get any harder to pick.
-
I'm just picking and forgetting at this point. What a tough season for picking, but it's interesting as well.
-
I did horrible this week. I got the same correct as axeman, and he missed half of his picks. :lol :lol
-
Whiners. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
-
Unrelated to this here pick'em, but I already locked up my preseason predictions, good for a bottle wine. Because of the way it's scored we almost never lock it up this early.
As for our pick'em, I've got a very tenuous 3 point lead on him, but now we're picking straight up and ATS, so that can chance pretty easily.

Kudos to Bill for the regular season title. With only thirteen picks remaining, ‘it ain’t over until it’s over’, but….
(sorry there's no wine to go with the win)
T-ski….there were a couple of 13-2 weeks during the year, but you join me and the Professor having 14-2 weeks.
My best regular season finish ever. The postseason has always been my albatross.
-
Somebody check and make sure that Stads wasn't deflating balls or secretly filming any of us. I fear he went all Belichick on us.

:yeahright

Congrats Stads!
I think this was my best finish on DTF. I always seem to start strong and fade late, but I did pull out that 14-2 final week to sneak into the second place tie.
-
I never did update this and congratulate Stadler for thrashing us all quite soundly. :tup
If I hadn't waited until week 9 to concede defeat and give up in disgust I might have caught up to you. I picked up about 2 games a week once I stopped trying. :lol

HAHA! Next year! I took a thrashing in the playoffs, though. I didn't call SHIT during the playoffs.

Congratulations, Stads!

Good job Staddy!

Another fun year in the pick 'em. :tup

Congrats to Stadler!
