As a contrast to the What Pisses You Off thread...
Post here everything you really enjoy and appreciate :)
I'll get the ball rolling...
1. Going to the cinema to see a film you enjoy immensely. The whole experience of going to the cinema - sitting in that seat and the movie starting.
2. Summer. I'm just really into sunshine and heat :lol. Where I live - there is a BIG park and not too far away from a river that runs all the way to the next town where swans / geese / ducks / pigeons all hang out. It's a really nice place to be in the summer.
3. A good night's sleep.
4. Playing guitar / writing and recording a song you are really proud of.
5. A really satisfying meal that you don't want to finish :lol.
-
I love hating things. It gives me purpose.
-
Music. Love being wow'd by new bands.
Sarcasm. Fuck you if you can't handle it.
Exercising. 6 days a week right now.
As for little things... I love when I pull up behind a car at a red light that is going straight, and I'm turning right, they give me enough room to squeeze by. :tup
-
Nice thread, man.
Music that really thrills me
Watching British comedy (not all)
Reading a good book
Watching ridiculously over the top action moves (The Expendables)
Having fun with friends
The feeling you get when you're working for your study and stuck on some exercise, and you finally get it
-
Tits
Ass
Punani
-
A few things off the top of my head:
- That first slice of pizza from my favorite pizza place
- Exercising, especially riding my bicycle listening to music
- Riding my motorcycle. Once I enter this state road that is a few miles from my house and I'm able to get up to speed, it feels like I'm flying. When October comes it's even more perfect
- One of my friends laughs, life long friend of mine and her laugh is the most infections thing ever.
-
Music that just hits home and evokes all kinds of wonderful emotions.
Exercising, pushing it to the last set of intervals, pushing the last 20-30 minutes of a long bike ride, pushing it to the last rep of weight training.
Watching a really good stage or race in cycling. Paris-Roubaix usually delivers every year, and a few other races and some GT stages too.
Playing music to a crowd that really appreciates what you're playing.
-
For a real answer: music. I just discovered a band called Touchstone. After sifting through a lot of crap, the feeling of finding a band that just makes sweet passionate love to your ears is a feeling like no other. DAT BASS
-
Such a jolly thread! Who are you what what have you done with Kotowboy?? >:( :lol
-
When the lights go down right before a band you love is about to take the stage.
That feeling when you have worked on your lawn/landscape all day and you finish and stop and take a minute to admire what you have done.
My kids laughter.
Breasticles.
Eating all the lesser bites of something you love and saving that one last best bite for last.
Riding with the windows down in the spring with the smell of honeysuckle or fresh cut grass in the air.
The sound of new heads on my drums.
Doing the laundry and finding a 20 dollar bill that survived the washer dryer.
-
My first couple things are fairly cliche but it is the Gods honest truth.
- I adore and love my wife. She makes me want to make her proud of me and brings the best of me out....and understands and comforts me when the worst of me makes an appearance.
- My kids. I didn't think it was possible to love three different people with the same type of passion and excitement. I honestly spend most of my time trying to figure out ways and things I can do to make sure they never have to feel and experience the pitfalls and trials of 'being a kid' and only enjoy the best parts.
"Selfish" things I love...
- a good hour Trail Run. The peace of being in the woods and out in nature along with the release of stress and clearing the mind of a good exercise is really my therapy.
- fishing with my father. I really don't like the act of fishing....it's boring and my mind is way to active to sit and fish, but my father loves it so I habitually go with him to fish to spend that time with him. Some of my best memories are of he and I sharing sunrises on the lake.
- hearing/getting the genuine "I love you" and hug from any of my kids.
- making my kids laugh. All three have the most unique laughs that when heard....even if you don't want to....you are forced to laugh with them.
- wrestling with my boys. It's just fun, especially when all three try to overtake me. I'm certain I have one of the most formidable 'stomach claws' around
- one on one dinner with my wife. It rarely happens nowadays so when it does, it's a good reminder of why I think she's the coolest person around.
- target shooting. Just something about firing a few hundred rounds down range if at a shooting range, or into a log if at my Grandpas. Great release of stress and the majority of the time target practice will evolve into some sort of competition with whomever is with me...so that's always fun.
- watching a Hockey or Baseball game in person. Nothing beats the atmosphere of live professional competition and the stadiums they are held in. The sights, sounds, smells, people.....all tie into one another.
- writing or drawing. Two 'releases' I used to count on a lot but that have taken a backseat to being a parent and husband it seems. I have to find a way to re-incorporate these into my life.
-
-
Quiet evenings with Mrs. P and a bottle of McMurray Zin.
The look in Mrs. P's eyes after the bottle of wine is gone.
Playing fetch with Sagan while simultaneously reading my Kindle.
Putting on my sunglasses while leaving the office for the day.
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes.
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes.
Silver white winters that melt into springs.
These are a few of my favorite things.
-
Winter
Music
Long games of Civilization V
The woods.
Ginger sodas
Staying up late at night, everything is so peaceful
Going to sleep after you stay up late is one of the greatest feelings.
-
- Standing on high places at dusk/night
- That moment right after sunset when the breeze subsides
- Guitar Solos
- Discovering I like someone
- The sound of the hairdryer, and the flow of hot air on the skin.
-
Nice thread, man.
The feeling you get when you're working for your study and stuck on some exercise, and you finally get it
:tup
That feeling when you're working for a living and getting paid rather than getting handouts. I hope to experience that again soon.
-
- Standing on high places at dusk/night
Oh yeah.

This Cat (https://instagram.com/p/dIJoFMM3GM/) :heart
Being on a boss in a game for AGES and each of you has one hit left and you take him out with your last bullet. :metal :corn

Jamming on the keyboard is something special to me, and finding the just right chord progression by just randomly placing my hand on chords I cannot name, then record them.. That's special to me.
Writing, whether it be lyrics or poetry or short stories. I have been told I have a way with words.
Walking, on a cool, overcast day, with a light breeze. My favorite weather.
Night, decently warm, with a light breeze, without mosquitoes. The same sentiment.
Playing that really fast song with the orchestra. You really get into it.
Staying with friends, even if I'm not extremely involved with whatever they're doing.
Nostalgic video games when its cold in the house, or winter and I have the back door open (don't ask why).
Nostalgic movies (sometimes I just want to watch Watership Down every day)
Watership Down. To me, that is one of the greatest books in existence.
Sharing said book or music with others, and hearing their feedback. I've given away a copy of A Farewell to Kings and can't wait to hear the feedback of it (I still don't exactly know the person I gave it to, only hearing from a friend of his that he really liked it. One day I will find out exactly how much.) (I let a friend borrow Watership Down, he read it within about a week, he LOVED it. That made me happy.)
Cold weather. As long as I am wearing a jacket, it is heavenly.
Certain foods my mother makes I will eventually share with my college roomates not long from now. (Coddle, Chili, Mushroom Rice, and many others.)
-
Blasting music in my car
Hot, dry, clear, sunny days
70F or higher nights
Baseball spring training games
New releases from my favorite bands
Making my own CD versions of albums, adding extra material. Sometimes making my own artwork.
-
- Discovering I like someone
There's a word for this feeling in the Norwegian language: Forelsket
I always thought that was super awesome.
-
The word sounds lovely too. :tup How do you pronounce it?
-
I think it's for-EL-shket
I don't know much Norwegian, so maybe someone who does can chime in.
-
I love poetry, and a glass of scotch, and, of course, my friend Baxter here.
-
When the lights go down right before a band you love is about to take the stage.
One of life's greatest joys. Classic intro music can make it all the more awesome.
Doubt there's a Norwegian word for this one, but every once in a while I'll achieve the perfect buzz in a perfect social setting, and everything just seems exactly "right."
-
Getting a hug from a friend.
It can vastly improve your day.
:heart
-
I kinda love the poignant feeling of melancholy and warmth I'm getting from reading your words. :-[ Maybe more from me later...
Music is a top love on any occasion, however. :heart
-
I love Green Day :) :heart
I love Star Trek movies :heart
-
red heads, boobs, girls with tattoos
-
Red heads and british accents. Or a combination of both.
I also love Chipotle.
-
Right now? As obvious as it is, my new girlfriend. Been in a really bad place the past few years, with some shitty relationships, and this lady just swept into my world and made it 100% better. :heart
Other things:
Buffalo wings.
My pets. Even those crazy ass dachshunds.
Good music.
A good night's sleep.
-
Music....when I listen to music, it takes me places. I've discovered the beauty of seeing the notes as notes on a wave, while the tones of those notes are the colors. I enjoy lyrics but I mainly don't listen to the words, I listen to the notes of those words and its delivery. For some reason, most of the songs I really enjoy are the least favorites of many on this board (based on the survivors). Its something I take to heart, and am very serious about. Sometimes I'll sit outside or when I'm outside and listen to the music of nature.
-
ART! There's so much you can do with art that it's crazy-- it's a perfect way to express yourself and pour your emotions into something whilst simultaneously crafting something that you put hours of blood, sweat, and tears into. It's just a great experience overall, creating art, viewing art, anything to do with it for me. That's why I'm working to become a professor of it, so I can relay this experience to others and continue creating art throughout my life!
Also--
Soccer. The feeling of being on a soccer field (or a pitch, yee) is one of the most exciting feelings ever. The endless hours I've put into practices, games, and training all becomes worth it when I get on the field.
Music, of course, is one of my grandest loves as well. As with art and soccer, music takes me places other things can't. It creates a separate, ethereal world.
Other things would be reading, hiking, running, the feeling of eating an amazing meal, movies, and doing things with friends. I'd also probably add college to this list-- it's one of my favorite things as well.
-
OK, other than the obvious ones....
That moment when I'm feeling in the shits and the perfect song comes from out of nowhere.
Walking through the dining room at work and seeing someone mop the sauce off of a plate with his/her bread.
Making kids I don't know laugh in public, especially on the train or in a Starbucks or something.
Cheese pizza
-
Driving on a highway through the night with music on.
Getting buzzed with friends or having a good evening.
Being in love (well, DUH.)
Finishing stuff I can be proud of.
Cooking a nice meal. This ties in to the one above I suppose.
And other things I can't think of now.
-
My favorite thing in the entire world is the crack of a bat. When the ball hits the sweet spot of a bat, man, what a sound. It's amazing how something so simple can be so beautiful.
-
My wife who is my compass in life.
Music, Sports & my DVR. They are all my mistresses.
A cold autumn day where the leaves have changed colors and you can see your break.
And of course a fine craft beer and brewing them with my brother.
-
Pinching off a ripe, steamy loaf.
Snowfall first thing in the morning or last thing at night, when there is nothing but calmness. No sounds, no cars... just watching it in the glimmer of the moon and/or streetlights. It's as close to the definition of "peace" as I can experience.
-
Yeah, having a hot chocolate while watching the snow fall is a great moment.
-
I love my wife and kids, and my Mom and brother.
I love my faith relationship.
I love making music with friends.
I love attending football games in the fall.
I love seeing a good movie on opening weekend with a shit ton of popcorn.
I love food.
-
I love hearing a song come together. When the mix is just right and it sounds so good you just want to listen to it on repeat.
-
I love crushing my enemies, seeing them driven before me and to hear the Lamentations of the women.
-
Cool. I like twix . c:
-
I know I said I love music, but I love listening to new music even if it's terrible, it's a journey. I try and listen to a new album a day.
-
Lamp. (I had to)
My mom.
My friends.
A well made New York style pizza. There are several pizzerias around here started by former NY residents. Sooo good.
A perfectly thrown touchdown pass.
A full tank of gas. (Freedom!)
A healthy fart that will drive away everyone in the area.
Laughing.
Making other people laugh.
Halloween.
Christmas.
Movie references.
People who get my movie references.
-
When you finally sit on the toilet and go "boom".
When you finally nail the F chords
When you go "fuuck this band is good."
When I finally get someone. (tfwnogf)
-
F chords ? :P
-
People who get my movie references.
Regarding references...
People who get my book, movie, tv show (yay Monty Python!) and music references...
And people who like my puns (almost) as much as I do :lol
-
Soccer. The feeling of being on a soccer field (or a pitch, yee) is one of the most exciting feelings ever. The endless hours I've put into practices, games, and training all becomes worth it when I get on the field.
Same with me except for it's baseball. Dodger Stadium is one of the most perfect fields. No brown patches, no noticeable spots, it looks almost artificial. I love it there. I also love playing on a real field with infield grass (as opposed to a softball field).
-
When you're playing in part of a group and you're the loudest one
I remember yesterday we were practicing the national anthem in the hallway (my school is a long strip), and I got into a section where there are two walls to my left and right, 2 yards apart, and there's a window behind me, and the hall in front of me with the group in a line:

-
Add chocolate to my list. I'm amazed I don't have diabetes yet.
-
I'm only 17 years old and I feel so bad when I eat an entire honey bun, look at the back, and see "125% daily serving of saturated fat", then look at the ingredients, and see "palm oil" as one of them.
-
In my honest opinion, the greatest thing in the world is the first time you cuddle up with a girl you like. Other than that, when an album you've been waiting months for finally hits, the smell of fresh Auntie Anne's soft pretzels (if anyone even knows what those are), and when you're in the stands at a game where your team has a walk off hit or scores a game winning goal in the final seconds.
-
Onion rings. Or, as my brother once referred to them, "delicious circles of delicious".
Oh yes. Had some great onion rings last night.
-
Red Sox in the World Series and the Yankees golfing.
And Onion Rings are the cats meow.

I hate onions, but onion rings are really good. I make no sense.

YES!
Something 35 yr old Kotowboy has yet to experience ! :sadpanda:
In lieu of people - I will nominate kittens / cats instead. Especially the kind that love you and nuzzle you like crazy. Soooo nice.

It's a number of things that have all built up over time :)

Music
Experiencing the world around me
Chemistry
Football
Beating people at games of mental skill. Maybe this above all else. Call me an asshole, but I love proving I'm better at things than other people.
-
The creative process. That lightbulb moment.
Parties with family or friends, and the endless laughs.
Sunny afternoons with blue skies and a couple of fluffy clouds.
The feeling of extreme excitement or euphoria, whether it be from your team scoring a late match winner, hearing somebody you care deeply about tell you they love you, hearing a massive chorus or riff which makes you think 'wow', or from hearing a new beat drop with an amazing melody. Basically anything that makes you punch the air with so much delight that you break your fist. :metal
Getting that cute girls number ;)
-
I love that feeling when you see a cop just in time on the highway, slow down, and not get a ticket!
-
Onion rings. Or, as my brother once referred to them, "delicious circles of delicious".
I hate onions, but onion rings are really good. I make no sense.
Same with me. Red Robin's onion rings are very good and thick.
-
I *REALLY* love my son. :heart
I love autumn - the colors, the cool weather, the smell, the melancholy
I love an unexpected "meeting of the minds", a kindred spirit if you will. I've not met many in my life and the pain of losing them is nearly greater than the joy of finding them. But it's still a wondrous feeling. And I always think of them fondly.
I love the smell of books and the process of reading/finishing a gripping tale
I LOVE discovering new music!! I've come upon more new music this year than I have in such a short period of time ever in my life. I have this forum to thank for that. :hefdaddy
I love that many consider me a good listener/advisor.
I LOVE to sing - on my own but especially with a group. Harmonies turn me on. I just hate that I rarely have the opportunity to do it. :(
I love fine wine, quality coffee and good chocolate. Intense flavors.
-
every once in a while I'll achieve the perfect buzz in a perfect social setting, and everything just seems exactly "right."
I love this feeling. It's the ultimate state of euphoria. One of these moments that really stands out for me is when I saw Rain, a Beetles tribute band, a few years ago.
-
I like big butts and I can not lie, you other brothers can't deny...

I love singing too even though i'm dreadful
I also love singing harmonies. If i'm singing Green Day - i'll always switch to Mike's backups :P
Plus - nobody must ever hear me singing. :|

I guess karaoke is out for you, eh?
I love karaoke -- but I think I take it more seriously than most because I actually *can* sing (so it's not a drunken jokey time for me). I don't "play" whilst performing, whether for fun or money. Therefore, I think I make it not as fun for others. :(
-
I like big butts and I can not lie, you other brothers can't deny...
Oh yeah! Although there is another thread for that..... ;)

What i love?
You :3
I love those sunny winter days, with clear skies. Most beautiful thing ever.
I love coffeee, without sugar. Just. Coffee. Dark. Black. Bitter.
I love music, oh my god, i wish i had like 60 hours a day to practice everything!
I love to see some crazy Jazz drummers live.
I love to feed my girlfriend some milk :heart
I love books and what's inside them.
I love the taste of my enemies blood.

Traveling- Specifically, knocking things off my bucket list that I've always wanted to do. But also exploring randomly and finding things equally as amazing that you never knew existed.
Music- I can't really put into words how much I love it. Since we're all music geeks here I know you all understand this too...but there's just something about the way it changed my life, the way it makes me feel...some people turn to god or drugs to get this kind of solace, clarity, or high in their lives. I turn to the bands that have always been there and taught me to see the world in different ways. People go to church to feel uplifted...I go to concerts for the same reason. And seeing bands I love perform songs I love live...there is nothing else quite like it.
-
I love travelling too - just hopping on a train and going somewhere i've never been - for the ride - and to see what is there and to go somewhere new.
Sadly I have not been abroad since 1997 :( I don't currently have the funds to travel , no passport and I miss flying like crazy :emo:

I love cats! Very pretty, what's her name?
-
I think the two things that I consistently love, would be animals and music.
-
Something I forgot to mention last time I posted:
I love going on walks at night, in really dark areas. There are some neighborhoods around me that get fairly dark, there is nothing better then walking slowly listening to music and looking up at the endless sky. As I walk it's almost like I have no reference in time and I can drift away in ideas and memories.
-
I think walking at night is way safer since you can see headlights coming from way in front of you and from behind you too.
-
1. Coffee in the morning
2. Reading life-changing poems and being like "Aw man, and to think I've gone this far in life without ever having read that poem"
3. Doing a really really good job on my makeup
4. Being told I'm pretty
5. Hugs

I love coffee but poetry does zero for me at all :P

Fucking this indeed, good call.
-
Agreed, especially a late morning on the day off dump.
-
Shitting is just the best <3
-
I'd say that morning dump you take after having your first coffee. Feels like cleaning up your insides, leaving a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. <3
Also this:
- Doing an unexpected favour for someone close to you. Or, having someone doing something sweet to you
- A first kiss with someone you like
- Writing a song or practicing guitar
- Reading a really good book or playing an awesome video game
- Meditating
EDIT: Also fucking. God, do I love that.

You mean a successful prostate poop.
Gotta love those!
This summer two things have been a joy, a glass of cold water followed by a splash or two of cold water to the face. Sometimes those simple things are the best. :heart

Shouldn't all this successful bowel movement discussion be in the 40 and over or 50 and over thread? What a boner killer... :lol

I don't give it that much attention unless it starts to become a problem. To me, it's just another biological process that reminds us that, first and foremost, we're just semi-civilized animals.
-
So what you're saying is that shit can be art?

- Popping a particularly hard to get trophy on PlayStation
- Getting that riff down finally, where you can play it twice in a row (at least)
- The moment at a concert (and it doesn't happen at every concert) when you know, you just KNOW, the band is on another level entirely
- Sorry to be graphic, but your girl brushes her fingertips against your... unit, and it starts to get a life of it's own.
-
That first bite of a perfectly constructed and seasoned meal, where everything is perfectly balanced in flavor and texture, and the sensation runs from your mouth outward throughout your body. Fuck yes.

I just train my bitch to set it the way I like.
She'll never see this. :lol
Too bad that I saw it though.

Don't worry. She tells all her friends she's trained me. We all have a good laugh. Hell, she calls me "her bitch".

Now we're talking! From the mouth (words) of a chef to the ears (eyes) of an Italian! ;)

I've never had bourbon biscuits.
I
MUST
LOOK IT UP!

There's nothing alcoholic about them. They're just chocolate biscuits. But so delicious.

Waking up in the middle of the night all pissed off because it's time to get out of bed, only to find out it's only 2 A.M. and peacefully going back to sleep.

Still sounds amazing.
Lately, I'm loving Yummly. I've been getting great recipes on there.

I've given up almost all soda but there is something about a cold fountain coke every once in a while.

I love lamp.

I love internet forums. To me they are much more "social" than the social networks.

I gotta agree with you 7th, I've had a set few forums I've been visiting for over 10 years now.

I'm down with this, too.

Agreed. I haven't had a single soda in like 6 months now, but I do love a regular coke (although I prefer it in a cold can).

I also love a regular coke or even better Vanilla coke every once in a while. And not having it for long periods of time, makes it taste even better imo when I do have a glass of it.
-
Add Irish whiskey to Coke and I'm in.
-
I loved Coke. Drank it all day everyday. When I was diagnosed with Diabetes, I literally gave up soda for like 5 years. Now I drink Coke Zero. And I love it!

Dog, where is that picture taken? It looks awesome!

It's from one of the spare bedrooms in my house. Schecter guitars are indeed awesome! ;)
Oh, you meant the top picture? ;) It's from Mt. Rainier National Park. The east side of it. Gorgeous country. :)
-
:lol
I almost said....I'm not talking about the guitars!
That's cool. We did Grand Teton National Park (and Yellowstone) this past summer and it was awesome. Driving though Wyoming was AMAZING! Much better than driving around here.
-
Married life. Where awesome guitars are relegated to spare rooms. :lol
I know. I know.
-
:lol Word of warning - I'm a smart ass. ;)
Been to Yellowstone over 20 years ago and don't remember a ton, but do remember thinking it was cool. Never been to the Tetons, but I remember driving by them near Yellowstone and thinking they looked beautiful. Would love to visit that area again for sure.

Ain't that the truth - mine aren't even on site :lol
probably not a bad thing in one way - my most collectible guitar is going to be (and was purchased to be) Ben's 21st present one day and he's a snoop :D

I have my dad's 1964 Fender Stratocaster so I totally get it.

Of course! And it almost always ends with Cmin. ;)

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm not quite catching what is meant with the LOTR reference... :-\

You are in the shire. The big mountain with snow they had to cross is my guess.

Right now I love this new fire pit I have. Sitting outside in the cold with a roaring fire.
-
I just bought one myself!
-
Where's my pic of the 1964 strat :impatient: ;D
-
That is tucked away. I don't take it out much anymore. I play ready for this, a Kramer Focus with the whammy bar set up like Brad Gillis in Night Ranger and an Ibenez Atrista Jessica guitar with mother of pearl frets.
-
Fair enough - my guitars are stashed away but I took some pics before I deported them ;D
My main axe was one of the early Vai JEM series - always used to go down a treat when I was playing in the school orchestra/ jazz band .............not! Snobs ;D :metal

Below is a pic of Ben's 21st present (being played and then on my couch) - only played once by the man himself at the Mohegan Sun. One off stripe design with "Atomic Punk" along the underside of the body - signed after the gig.

How did you get that, Brent?
-
bl5150, those are both awesome! Very cool! How much did the EVH run you?
-
Hot damn. Nice. I have real pictures of them from a camera but we lost all of them when my basement flooded in 08. I should go to my parents where my old right is stacked.
-
Nice. I have real pictures of them from a camera
Real pictures? From a camera? Really? :lol
I thought maybe the Camera Stork delivered them!
-
You know damn well you old bastard that everybody uses their phone and these pictures were on a camera with fulm. Not the digital.
Don't play millennial on me! :lol

:lol
Did you know that if you cover a Polaroid picture, it'll develop faster!
-
Dad had the Polaroid. :lol
-
If you take it on a phone it's called phulm Tim. ;D
I bought the VH guitar from a collector in the USA and I don't need to tell you even what the shipping was :omg: I'll keep what I paid for it to myself but I will say that there are a few similar one offs on Ebay (search "EVH Art guitar") that give an indication of of today's value. There are also some generic mass produced Charvel EVH Art guitars with the classic designs for around $2000 - they're not the ones ;)
You would only be aware of these guitars if you were a guitar nut and a VH fanatic I am guessing. Across the 2000's EVH released a quantity of these one off hand striped designs - the originals were on the "shitshow" 2004 tour with Sammy where Ed was a walking disaster. The guitar designs and signatures from that tour are pretty crappy and one of the guitars was bought in pieces after Ed smashed it :lol
Some more were done on the 07-08 tours with the DLR reunion when Ed was healthy and they are of a much higher quality all round. They're a standard EVH Charvel design with D-Tuna.
Back when I was (much) better off financially I saw this one become available from a reputable dealer and decided that I would buy it for Ben - he was 2 yo at the time , he's now 8yo. Only 13 years to go . The guitar came with a signed certificate from Ed/Charvel , DVD footage of Ed playing it , also a grab bag and confetti from the show at Mohegun Sun in 2008.
Just another part of Australia's best Van Halen memorabilia collection :D
-
Now ha is fandom Brent, and Ben is one lucky boy. Does e knowwhat hesgot coming?
You've got o get back o playing man. Guitars are meant to be played, especially those beauts.
These are my girls, no signatures and not played by the greats, unfortunately :biggrin
The strat is a scalloped Malmsteen strat

Nice Strat and JEM there mate :tup
As far as Ben's guitar - no he has no idea and I keep it at my Dad's so he doesn't stumble onto it. I have never played it - it was genuinely bought for him...........hopefully I'm around to give it to him :lol

I can understand you not wanting to play the EVH, but that Jem says play me
I play the Jem the most, and after playing the scalloped strat for ten years it made me a better player as soon as I bought it. The strat is just for blues now, the Jem for :metal
My pride and joy there though is the BC Rich Eagle. Such a work of art. The only downside is all the active circuitry - there's just too many switches and dials
-
Cool guitar Brent, but I'm curious, why wait till your son is 21? That's a guitar that needs to be played. And it needs to be played Right Now :metal
Is Ben playing guitar or is he at least showing interest in playing?
PS: I wish I could join in the guitar porn but I only got an ESP strat, decent guitar but nothing special and I've no actual photo.
-

Everything Ben gets a hold of either gets lost or broken ;D He has shown some interest in playing (and has an acoustic which you may have heard in a podcast briefly :lol ) but realistically that EVH is worth a lot of money and is best not played if you want to preserve its value. It was purchased as a collectible , not to be played.
Why wait til he's 21? The guitar will be worth multiples of his first car and I would rather wait for an occasion that befits that sort of largesse rather than just handing it over , especially at an age where he won't appreciate its value.
As far as me playing again , I can't see it happening any time soon but if I find the time (on top of my normal listening + podcasting) it'll be the first thing on my list to do. I fear that my perfectionist streak and resultant frustration at not being able to do what I know I used to do will be a barrier to progress of epic proportions :lol
-
Your reasons are totally understandable and probably that guitar is not suited for 8 year old boys.
This is not meant as a personal attack or insult, so please don't hate me, but I hate it when beautiful guitars are bought for collecting and money preserving or money increasing reasons. Guitars need to be played.
-

Fair enough. I didn't buy it as an investment but the whole idea of the guitar is that it was hand striped by Ed , designed by Ed , played live by Ed and then signed and I think it's best kept in that condition. I have been a collector of Van Halen memorabilia for much of my life and it was bought in that context . Realistically it is probably one of the worst playing guitars I own too , so I don't feel that I am missing out - especially seeing as I no longer play.
This is the only time I have ever bought a guitar as a collectible and will likely be the last. I am not a guitar collector at all , but a Van Halen collector - yes.
-
As a VH collector item it makes sense, I can relate to that.
As I said this is not against you, it was more of a general remark. I know of a guy who's father (a dentist) has a shitload of money and buys a lot of guitars, preferably played by someone famous, only to put them up on a walland after some years he sells them when he can make enough profit of them. But he never plays them.
-
Brent, I know your perfectionist streak is a mountain to climb, but one thing I've learned in my job working with old folk, they miss the stuff they used to be able to do so much, and would do anything to do it again.
But if you wouldn't enjoy it, I can agree it's not worth it.
I've never been very good, and can't play like I could when I did little else, but I mostly enjoy picking the old girl up, except on those days when the fingers just won't do a damn thing.
And as we get old, that's what the blues is for :lol
-
You guys and your f*cking Jems. >:(
Want the Blue Floral Print one so bad. :'(
