i have evo and the battery sucks, it is what it is, big screen and lots of shit running. i hear the gingerbread will solve the battery issues a bit, so i'm hoping they release it soon. i am this close to rooting but too lazy/nervous to go down that road.

It got quite a bit better when I removed all but the weather/clock widget and I have a Bing (not google) widget along with the nice HTC settings widgets to easily turn on/off 4G, Wi-Fi, and GPS.  I also have a battery widget.  That is all.  The thing came full of running widgets.

It feels like removing the widgets is neutering Android...

YES! The guy who makes the majority of the emulators for Android has just released an N64 emulator!

It's called N64oid, by the way.

As awesome as that is, I can't see being able to play N64 titles on a phone.

Android fragmentation?

There are now like 3 different "stores" for android apps.  The Google App Market, Amazon App Store, and the Tegra 2 Zone.  How does this benefit the customer without causing confusion.  In the case of the Tegra 2 Zone, do these apps only run on phones with the Tegra 2 chipset?  Will there be one for the Snapdragon dual-core chipset phones (such as the new Evo 3D, etc).

Having stores for specific phone chipsets will cause some sort of fragmentation of the app stores.

I don't see how this is a good thing.  Comments?

There are two markets.

Quote
For those who've not yet heard of it, the Tegra Zone is an Android application that curates and highlights content that would most benefit from having the dual-core power of that Tegra 2 chip within your device. At launch, that means a hand-picked selection of games whose makers have gone the extra mile and thrown in additional geometric detail, heavier computation loads, and higher-resolution textures specifically for Tegra 2 smartphones and tablets. The snazzier, more interactive games will still be sourced from the Android Market, the Tegra Zone is no more than a portal unto the vast world of Android content

Quick question from a completely Android ignorant guy; should I get the Galaxy S II? I'm eligible for an upgrade with T-Mobile and they have it, it looks really good but I'm crazy lazy to research it.

Interesting commentary about Google's decision to not release the source code for Honeycomb:

https://www.androidcentral.com/google-not-open-sourcing-honeycomb-says-bloomberg

The comments are fairly interesting.  The Xoom and Honeycomb were rushed out just to have something to compete against the iPad/iPad 2.  Was that really a good decision?  And they also created a big fork in the Android OS path by making Honeycomb exclusive to tablets.  Perhaps it should have been scalable to tables and phones and perhaps one day it will.  Maybe then, that is when they will release the source code.  As any open source program should do.  Correct?

IMO it does make a lot of sense to fork the OS into mobile and tablet editions, just so they can really optimise it for both without having to compromise too much.
The first thing that springs too mind is ubuntu and the netbook/desktop fork, which struck me as a great idea with the 2 interfaces optimised for different screens

I think I will upgrading to either a Nexus S or MyTouch 4G in the next 2 weeks. Though, I need to go to the T-Mobile store and see what other Androids they currently have.

I'll probably end up skipping this, just because I only got my Galaxy S a month ago.

I thought about it but I don't know if I can resist, plus I dropped my GS a month after I got it and I have a quarter inch crack on the top left part of my phone. It's not visible on the viewing area but it's enough for me to justify getting a new phone.
