I just had a thought. I hope the new album isn't anything like The Throat of Winter. By Opeth standards, that song is rather boring.

Like any Opeth record, there are plenty of heavy/evil moments and also plenty of beautiful/quiet moments. Those worried it won't be heavy can rest easy because the main riffs on 'I Feel the Dark' and 'Famine' are some of the best and heaviest of Mikael's career. True Opeth fans should know not to doubt Mikael's talent and taste - he hasn't put a foot wrong yet and, once again, he has come through with the goods. The musicianship on this record is some next-level shit (each member is given plenty of space to shine) and the production is warm, earthy and not over-produced like so much modern metal.

I for one was ready for a change and hope the band get the recognition they deserve for this classic "metal" album. It is definitely still metal, just not as extreme as past records. And it definitely isn't a dissapointment as some people are predicting/fearing. Those who want to hear growls should just listen to the old Opeth records or Bloodbath while the rest of us enjoy listening to this brilliant band progress.

Anyway, I don't ususally comment on forums but just wanted to put a few minds at ease after reading the comments.

I'm still not sure why anyone has any doubt that this next record will be good. I mean, I hate to be a raging fanboy, but if you're like me and think Opeth have been a special, special band thus far, why doubt Akerfeldt now? Sure, they're changing styles, but the guy's a fucking genius.

The guy who uploaded that also uploaded every other "song" from the album, and this is the only one that is even slightly believable, so I don't think it's real.

I've just been very uneasy that this album wouldn't be a "rocker." I'm fine with no death growls. I just want heaviness, something to rock out to. If Heritage was an atmospheric, ethereal prog rock album, I would be disappointed. (Which is what I was beginning to expect). But according to that guy on Blabbermouth, that's not the case. If his description is accurate...I'll be very happy.
