It might be cool, just don't let him write material. He might try taking it with when he leaves.

I'm sad that Per left. Really sad. But if Mendez were to leave, I'd be devastated. He's almost as important to Opeth as Mikael is, at this point.

Come on, Gadough. Let's be honest. This is crazy talk. :loser:

Seriously, the guy's a bass player; he's easily the least important and most replaceable member.

And here I thought you were a cool dude

It'd be pretty amazing if Kevin Moore joined them.
Now THAT would be interesting. And awesome.

I was thinking more in terms of stage presence and image. I would greatly miss seeing him aside Mikael; his silent demeanor has become almost synonymous with the band. Plus, it's obvious that he's got much more say in how things go down songwriting-wise than he used to. Combine all that with the fact that he's the second longest-standing member in the lineup, and yes - it would absolutely fucking blow if he left the band.
Mikael also said in one interview that he decided together with Mendez, what songs they would play in the second set on Evolution XX tour, so yes, he is more important than he seems to be.

Just don't use it as background music. For your first listen, don't be browsing the internet, or studying, or playing a video game, etc. Sit there and focus on the music. Give 100% of your attention to it.

Ok, thanks, will do :) Usually when listening to new albums I tend to have it as background music, unless its something really awesome such as a new Maiden or DT album. I was comtemplating whether to do something else while listening to it, but I guess I'll just lie down and listen to it.

I only say that because Blackwater Park is an album rife with atmosphere. It enhances the music. The more drawn in you are to the atmosphere being created, the more you'll enjoy it. If you're doing something else while listening to it, you may miss out on that.

someone posted on the Porcupine Tree forum that Steven Wilson did a short interview with a Greek magazine. he apparently mentioned that Damnation will be coming out in 5.1 with an unheard bonus track (!) but he doesn't know when.

obviously sketchy reliability on this so far, but the poster is from Greece....  :P

Ha. I've thought Blackwater Park (song) was overrated for the longest time, but now it's my favourite Opeth song. Out of the ones I've heard at least.

I still think it's overrated... I don't know, I've listened to it quite many times, but it still hasn't clicked with me (and I guess it never will). There are some good riffs and growls, but the song drags on. I wish it was 3-4 minutes shorter.

I just listened to it for the first time, I found it really good, I love the music and theres some killer riffs in there, the acoustic bits are awesome too. It'll take me a few listens to really get a good opinion of it :)

Blackwater Park, the album, took a long time for it to click with me.  I had it for a few months before it really clicked and I decided to get Ghost Reveries, which clicked instantly.  But now I think that Blackwater Park, the song, is their best song.

The Leper Affinity rarely gets a lot of love around here, personally I think it's one of the best songs on BWP.
It has some really sick riffs, and the acoustic part is one of my favorite clean passages on the whole album.  :heart

The fact that it's so hard to pick a favorite from BWP is really a testament to how solid it really is.  Fantastic album.

1. The Leper Affinity - 9.5
2. Bleak - 9.5
3. Harvest - 9
4. The Drapery Falls - 9.5
5. Dirge for November - 8.5
6. The Funeral Portrait - 8
7. Patterns in the Ivy - 9
8. Blackwater Park - 10

Tracks 1 & 2 are on the verge of being 100% boner sauce, but both have a moment or two that I usually find myself wanting to just be over with. They make me anxious for impending pwn.

BWP (specifically "Harvest") was my intro to the band, way back when it came out. to this day i'm unsure if i truly can pick one favourite out of all the songs, but i most consistently go back to opening trinity. they really hit a high on that record.

Hell yeah, dude. TLA is my favorite off BWP by far. It's just so brutal.

I'm currently learning it on guitar. The arps and solos are prohibiting me from learning the whole thing.

Yet you give "Blackwater Park" a 10.

Blackwater Park clicked for me instantly and I stopped hating Opeth because of it. Ghost Reveries took a long time.

That song is a roller coaster ride of riffs that is constantly pounding you in the face. The middle of it is not, but it isn't supposed to me. It's supposed to be a break.

TLA and Bleak have parts that I find to be legitimately boring. Very short parts, but they are there.

Maybe not the most underrated, but a very underrated song indeed.
It's kinda 'weird', but in a good way, and I don't really get the hate for it.
