Opinions are based off of what people like, not reasoning. I realize you more than likely know that already but your post seemed to ignore that aspect of subjectivity.
This, some things don't with click with some like it does others. Watershed is in my top 3, yet it's usually at the bottom or near the bottom of people's list.  In the end it's just an opinion, and with music, sometimes it's just best to let someone have their opinion instead of trying to understand their reasoning.

Exactlys! Let's all just take some X and love each other. You are a sun goddess. With a penis. Mmmmmm...Who?

I agree that MAYH is most the best representative of their overall sound; it's a very beautiful album sprinkled with waves of mellow moments with an overall feel of ASS RAPE WITH A BACKWARDS PINEAPPLE AND THAT PINEAPPLE HAS A GRENADE IN IT BUT WHEN IT EXPLODES IT'S GOING TO EXPLODE AS A DEEP, BELLOWED GROWL OF POWER...and then some. But it's so beautiful when it happens.

i kinda see Your Horse as a transition between signature sounds; a departure from the first two albums (particularly, a depature from the awesomeness of morningrise), and not quite accomplishing the magic of the following records.

MAYBE i'll give it another chance, though i tried that 'another chance' thing about 3 years ago with negative results.

I think it depends on how you do it. If you give it another chance while thinking "this is so bad", then those feelings might cloud your real judgement. The best thing is to try and listen to it without any opinion at all, like listening to a new album.

i just talked to TioJorge, he's on board.

i'll try. i don't really remember it at all, so that should make it easier.

Waaaat!? Your pants are on fire, mister! I like that title, but my personal pick would be My Ass, Your Purse; because the vision of a woman keeping her belongings in Mikael's ass is really hot. "Honey, bend over I need my lipstick and eye shad-BVVVRRRRRT".

I don't really think MAYH is an example of Opeth's signature sound. In the early years, sure. But if I wanted to show someone an example that sums up their whole career I would say Still Life/Blackwater/Ghost Reveries.

Heritage keeps falling from my Opeth list. I'm back to SL, BP, and GR.

You were at the Palladium, too?

Yes, it was an awesome show.  Mastodon was awesome.  My wife wasn't really into them prior to this concert, but I think she liked their set as much as Opeth's - and she is a huge Opeth fan.

Really wanted to see Ghost but couldn't get out of work and get the kids situated with the sitter in time.

Yes sir, I was. Maybe you saw me? I dunno. I was standing here the whole night.

But hey, while I'm talking to someone else who was there...did you see the Kerry King lookalike walking around? He was short, chubby, bald, had the goatee, little beady eyes, angry expression. Looked just like him. All he was missing was the arm tattoos.

...That wasn't you, was it? :lol

But yeah, it's a shame you had to miss Ghost. They were really good. And I agree with you, Mikael's growls were top notch.

We were standing about halfway between you and the stage.

I guess you're in the Dallas area?  We just moved to McKinney in October.

damn, sounds like you had a great time. I heard members of Opeth and Mastodon were in Texas on Record Store Day and had a blast in Corpus Chriti, the rrecord store. Wish I could have been there.

Although it must suck to try shoppoing as them, they keep gettting interrupted.

The show in Minnesota has been moved to The Myth in Maplewood (Maplehood), Minnesota. Now Opeth will have switched from once playing across the Target Center to playing across the street from a Good Feet Store and Best Buy.

I am excited though that they switched venues. The Brick just opened up to horrible reviews. The first show (Jane's Addiction) a lot of the attendees watched the show from the basement on a TV. The Myth is way better.

This. It's a great album.
That said, it feels like the quality of their live shows has decreased a lot since its release...

It really has. I understand they're doing what they want but the crowd is noticeably deflated for pretty much all of their set.

It's funny you say that, because when I saw them on the first leg of the Heritage US tour I was very happy with what I saw. But last week, aside from The Lines in My Hand and Folklore, I wasn't all that into the show. In fact, I was just waiting for them to play the last two songs. And it was easily their least exciting performance from the four times I've seen them.
I felt its length in quite a few places.
