Okay, I have a question. Possibly a stupid one, but I have done extensive Googling (many times at this point) and I cannot find an answer to this - which is pretty impressive, I think.
I got an authentic, handmade stein from Germany for Christmas. In the picture below, it's the one on the left. The one on the right is my late grandfather's on my mother's side. I don't know if it's safe to drink from mine. I won't even chance it with my grandfather's (several reasons: respect, age of the stein, potentially unsafe), but I want to drink out of mine at least on special occasions - holidays, mainly.
But there are no markings on it indicating that it is for display only, or that it is unsafe to drink from. And I can't even find any info on Google if these are safe to drink out of, even on the King-Werk website. The inside is glazed and shiny and smooth, so I would assume it is safe to drink from. I think they're amazing decoration pieces and I want to get more, but I also want to drink out of one. Unfortunately the lid on mine came kind of offset, not a big deal, but it's a slight imperfection nonetheless.
