Title: In Retrospect - Album of the Year 2005 - Nomination phase
Post by: Dr. DTVT on April 18, 2011, 11:13:10 PM
I hope that participation was only down last go-around because it was the weekend.

Post your top 5 albums from 2005, order doesn't matter.  You may list fewer if you would like / don't know enough of the albums.  If you list runners up, list them UNDER your five nominations
List the band name first, uniformity helps me greatly in compiling lists
If you change your mind, just edit your post.  Don't repost, or quote your old post.  Just fix it.
OST's with a single artist and live albums are allowed.  Best of albums and compilations are not.
Posts that can't follow these simple rules will not be counted.

Nomination phase will last at least 3 days.

After a slow year in 2004, there were a TON of albums in 2005.

My albums (alphabetical order):

Opeth - Ghost Reveries (how did I miss this the first time?)
Redemption - The Fullness of Time
Riverside - Second Life Syndrome
Shadow Gallery - Room V
Spock's Beard - Octane

(yup...no DT)

The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
Protest The Hero - Kezia
Ulver - Blood Inside
Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Allat Született

Holy shit, best year of the decade.

I'd like Blood Inside to win, but as that's obviously not going to happen, I think I'll be heavily backing Deadwing here. As much as I love Dream Theater I'd really rather not see Octavarium win this...

Oh, wow, 2005 was great.

Ulver - Blood Inside
Dredg - Catch Without Arms
Bright Eyes - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn
Depeche Mode - Playing the Angel
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing

Honorable mentions:
Chiasm - Relapse
Thrice - Vhiessu
Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
Between the Buried and Me - Alaska
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Oceansize - Everyone Into Position
Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
Sigur Ros - Takk...

A shame these didn't make it; I really wish I could include all of them, but I guess it's a testament to what a great year for music 2005 was.

Heh, I expected at least a few more fans of Meshuggah's C33. There are/were some diehard fans of them and I think a couple stated that C33 is their favourite in the band thread.

What a joke, Sieges Even's The Art of Navigating by the Stars has been one of my favourite albums from that year since that year.  I didn't even say more people needed to vote for it, just that I was surprised nobody else did.  I remember back then there were a number of people around this forum that thought it was one of the best from that year.

I only used the word attack because that's how PC referred to it.  Notice, "in a way."  Anyways, I only responded because it was immediately after my post, which makes it seem like a response to me.

I don't care what other people actually vote for, I'm genuinely curious as to the lack of mentions for Sieges Even's album from 2005.  It was a very well liked album on these forums back then, often mentioned in album of the year discussions.  This thread makes it seems like either few even know it anymore or people's opinions of it have dropped.

Has anyone here heard The Art of Navigating by the Stars?  What's people's opinions of it?

I love how everyone thinks I was making a direct attack on them. I was just pointing out the general attitude on this forum about music.

And your post was a direct parody of mine, and I've been a fan of both fans for more than "just a week."  It was a pretty annoying post, to be honest, and not really representative of the forum as a whole, so that's why I think people took offense to it.  Except for all these Mew fans who only like them because I got Sonata into them, which means they're cool now.  ;D
