I thought Rolling Stone was all about diversity. So much for singers 1-11.

That list is a joke.. Elton John not making the Top 100?? Freddie Mercury not in the Top 10 or Top 5 even?

Arianna Grande at #43?

How does Glenn Danzig even make the list at all?
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

This clearly speaks of Rolling Stones credibility! Danzig made my top 25 BTW!

It’s obvious voters were confusing “frontman” for “singers”.

Mind boggling list.

Terrible list. I don’t think it’s controversial to say Rolling Stones greatest singer is Mick Jagger.

That might be the strangest musician list I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of musician lists.

At best I might recognize half those names. For a lot of them, I'm like  ???

Shmev, I know you said the list came from Rolling Stone, but was it put decided by the schmucks who run that rag, or the schmucks who read that rag?
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

I think it was decided by a combo of writers from RS and contributors whom they asked.

This post should not be overlooked. Unlike that Top 200, which I am happily overlooking.

I didn't go to RS, but came across a post on the "CNN of heavy metal" - Blabbermouth - who of course had to comment on the list. They included in the post this:
Quote
The publication anticipated complaints from fans who disagreed with Rolling Stone's choices, writing in the introduction: "Before you start scrolling (and commenting),keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List. Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent. Sure, many of the people here were born with massive pipes, perfect pitch, and boundless range. Others have rougher, stranger, or more delicate instruments… In all cases, what mattered most to us was originality, influence, the depth of an artist's catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy."
Of course, I still think it's ridiculous to say greatest singers, but "vocalists" or "frontmen/frontwomen", I could at least tolerate. That said, there's plenty on that list I'd still take issue with, but whatever. RS is an ignorant, biased publication as we all know.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

At least if you understand it as more "top 200 vocal personalities" it makes slightly more sense, but even then, having originality as arguably the most important trait, but then having Adele and Beyonce in the top 25....  I like Adele in particular, but original, they are not.

Re: Rolling Stone's list of the 200 greatest singers ever

Well...the fact that they gave metal an even passing nod with Ozzy, Dio and Danzig is a surprise....

But yeah, these Rolling Stone lists are always pointless and stupid.

Putting Al Green in front of Marvin Gaye seems a bit odd though...considering they just gave Marvin Gaye's "Whats Goin On" the #1 spot of greatest album of all time.
