Anyone Pick their Skin? (Bad habits)
« on: August 07, 2011, 10:02:03 PM »
WHile nowhere near as bad as my mom, I've had the habit of picking my skin; specifically on the bottom of my feet and upper palm of my hands (where it doesnt hurt).

DTF has certainly been odd today.

But to answer your question, no, I don't.

Also yeah, it doesn't hurt on the feet UNLESS you go too far and then it fucking hurts to walk for like two days  :sadpanda:

I occasionally pick at skin (though I've never used a knife to do it :lol).

And I chew fingernails, a lot.

Not too much. When I was 4, I used to do it until the gums would bleed. Not anymore though. It's a nasty habit though.

I tend to peel off the skin on my fingers. It makes it hurt to play guitar, but it's pretty hard to stop. There's also spots on the sides of my big toes that tend to peel very easily. I used to bite my nails like a motherfucker though.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Yeah, from pimples, it used to be pretty bad and still is, but I'm working on it.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. Yeah, my feet suck and itch and pick some skin off. It's gotten a lot better over the years though, requiring much less scratching/inevitable picking

I have naturally dry skin, especially my scalp.  As a result, if I go outside for too long in the heat, it cracks and flakes, and I end up peeling/scratching largish chunks of me epidermis out.

I have large scale plaque psoriasis and pick/itch my skin habitually, for twenty years now.  New meds in the last six months have made it much better, but it will never completely go away.

cup- sound like you may have early stages, ask your doctor or go to a dermatologist and have them look at it, get a jump on it early.

One thing I learned from somebody to get rid of dandruff and other dry skin problems is to firmly rub that area of the body with your fingertips as if you were massaging it or lathering your hair with shampoo. For example, I have a thick goatee beard and it can easily have dandruff in it, but if I take a minute in the shower to massage my chin where the beard is, it has no dry skin whatsoever. Same with my eyebrows, and behind my ears (Yeah, dry skin plagues me).

I also started trying this with my feet to good success.....so much less scaling/itching that it actually seems like my feet are healing completely.

I bite the inside of my cheek waay too much. My nail biting used to be so out of hand that my fingertips would ofter bleed, but I only chew on em every once in a while, so it's not too bad.

I bite my fingernails a lot. Used to be my toenails too when I was little, thankfully I stopped doing that.

I never use a nail clipper for my fingernails, and cannot remember ever having done so.

I don't know how I started doing this, but biting the inside of my cheeks is the hardest habit to break! I don't even realize I'm doing it. I also pick at my cuticles.

I've been trying to kick my bad habit of chewing my nails for years. I do it enough that it's actually worn down a notch in one of my front teeth and two of my other front teeth have had small chips in them that I needed to get filling over.

I know it's just a matter of willpower but it is a really hard habit to try and break. Most of the time when I do it I'm not really conscious of it.
