The first European leg is going to go on longer than I expected it seems. The announcement of US dates is taking longer than I expected!
Hmm, not sure which other songs he uses the lap steel for. Fingers crossed it is Octavarium.
I'm calling it now: we'll see A Change Of Seasons sooner or later this tour. It is just too fitting the moment of the history of Dream Theater we're into. Plus, it is hands down their greatest song and a huge fan favourite. I am positive about it being played again. :)

I really doubt about it... ACOS is a very personal lyric from Portnoy, they won't be playing it for sure
P.S.: First comment in this froum (?
I don't understand why everyone thinks DT will dismiss songs because they're personal to Portnoy. It's like not putting a favourite film on with your partner because it means too much to your ex...I'm calling it now: we'll see A Change Of Seasons sooner or later this tour. While seeing A Change of Seasons would not suprise me, I honestly would not hold my breath. I can almost guarantee they'll still be playing Portnoy songs, songs like A Change of Seasons, The Best of Time, and the full 12-step saga are all Portnoy's brainchildren. DT will exercise extreme discretion when it comes to picking songs Portnoy was close to. So, it'll be a lenghty while before we see some of Portnoy's more personal songs.
I think for this tour they'll come up with some "safer" Portnoy songs to use for now.
Some examples:
Just Let Me Breathe
anything from Scenes from a Memory
Never Enough
Constant Motion
anything he wrote for Six Degrees (song)
maybe a 12-step song, but I think that's unlikely
I'm growing concerned that the setlist is going to be very safe, just to assure the fans that DT is not going off the rails. As absurd as this sounds, I do think that DT is going to do this. If they just play a set that's too similar to what we saw for the past 2 years, I'll be pretty disappointed.
On the other hand, with Mike gone, some members might see this as a chance to play songs that Mike was less keen on (aka: more slow songs). While that's not a drastic change, if it means we see more Vacants or Disappears, then I'll be happy.
Then why have they avoided Space-Dye Vest and Anna Lee for so long?
It's not Mike's song, true. But out of respect to his memory, I can't see DT playing it, or any of Mike's other personal songs in the near future.
Anna Lee, on the other hand, was played many times live as long as Derek was in. Then it was probably put aside since, as clearly stated by MP on the liner notes of the FII Demos, it was mainly Derek's and James's both musically and lyrically.
That would be overly stupid.
I'm not writing it off entirely at all. I am hopeful that they will play it. But, I am leaning more towards them not playing it this time around, and it's mostly because it's a song that's close to Mike.A Classic epic encore for every show. ACOS or 8VM. That would be brilliant. :metal
Bearing in mind it's also a really long song, and they may not have room for it if they want to play other songs for their "re-establishment". If the lap-steel means we'll see a return of Octavarium, I would be downright shocked if they had that and ACOS on the same tour, even if they were using a rotating setlist.
The best shows are the ones that end in one of the classic 4: Metropolis, Learning to Live, Octavarium, or A Change of Seasons. My fingers are crossed that we'll get that back again. I'm done with seeing Pull Me Under close the show :\
One thing I hope wholeheartedly
No medleys pls
I feel like I'm the only one who loved Schmedley Wilcox and Instrumedley...I love the medleys! I just prefer they play entire songs. haha.
I had a dream last night that DT did an Evening With tour but the entire second set was made up of medleys. I spend too much time on this forum. :lol
1 WEEK TO GO!!

Pure insanity. lol.The Ones Who Help To Set The Controls To The Heart Of The Crimson Sunrise
Im a fan of this one. Well done

Awesome! Hopefully there will be a boot of this show. It's a big historical moment for DT.
OTBoA to open up the Summer gigs anyone? :-\
OTBoA to open up the Summer gigs anyone? :-\
Egh, I hope not. It doesn't have a big opening that is expected of DT.
I'm really hoping MM gets a drum solo. Only 2 minutes or so, but really give him a chance to show the fans what he can do :)
As I said in the thread for the Rome gig, I will be relaying nobloodyname's live setlist updates to this thread from Facebook.Sounds good. Can't wait!
Two hours and ten minutes.:lol
James LaBrie is drinking his disgusting mixture of hot water and honey, eating bananas and teasing the whole backstage with his vocal warmup
Mike Mangini's body is not well (has a tsunami inside of him)
Jordan Rudess is in the process of discovering the spell to turn stalking fans into iPads
John Petrucci is smoking setting up his portable tour cuisine to smoke the meat of the opening bands' members
John Myung has already been practicing for ~36hours on his couch.
Everything is fine in DT land! :metal
Two hours and ten minutes.
Until the show starts? Jesus
Do you think any songs will be switched out for tonight's Verona show?God I hope not. I hope they'll stick to this amazing setlist.

Awesome...they starting at 8.45 again? I was out last night so was checking from my phone, refreshing every second haha. :)
I live in the UK yeah not in London though... :)
I even know the tube map by heart :rollin
My first concert ever was in London, one year ago (yeah, I am a late comer with regard to live music), at the High Voltage... first row!
Anyway, to come back in topic: I have been told that there are some vans where sandwitches are sold right in the middle of the courtyard, a some thirty yards away from the stage. Someone really got crazy or something :yeahright
I was just thinking, what are the chances that they will do Space Dye Vest on this tour? You know, just JLB and JR.AFAIK, it was just a one-off thing. I would be shocked if they did it on the tour.
Or was that just a one-off thing?

To say it all, I definitely see The Ytse Jam coming back to life.

I recall Jordan saying not to count on SDV being played on this tour...
Yes, definitely. I wonder if DT (or just some several members) are fond of the film in general; but the usage of the soundtrack as the intro tape is amazing.
So, as I understand it, the first shows were billed as "Dream Theater" shows, with tonight being the first festival show, correct? With the warmup shows out of the way, I would think they will likely have some shorter set times at some of these festivals. I am interested to see what they do with the set lists. I would guess TCOT will be cut, but I wonder what else they'll change.Yep Bosk, you're perfectly right. They got only 1 hour today, they play before Airbourne (their show is on other stage) and Slipknot (they played on the same stage as DT). Show starts at 21:20...or 21:15 ;) I'm very curious about tonight setlist. It has 2 hours now, TCOT will be gone IMO, maybe Caught In A Web and Forsaken... Peruvian Skies is great live song, it should stay. Just like These Walls and SFAM songs.

Metropolis as the encore. Sweet. :metal
You can always use a lower standard tuning and not dropped.
I hate it when bands change the key of a song. It makes the whole song sound "wrong". I'd rather they just play a different song than play a song I like in the wrong key.

You know what? I used to have the same opinion.
My mind changed after a FW concert here in Greece when they played the entire Parallels album. I think it was at least one step down, but it sounded fantastic.
I guess they could do it, and actually i am surprised that James is able to sing the older songs in the original tuning and without changing the melodic lines of the vocals.
I bet if they downtuned (since most of the older songs are in E standard tuning, lets say they tune to Eb standard) James will definately sound much much better.
Dont you know D minor is the saddest of all keys. :biggrin:I hate it when bands change the key of a song. It makes the whole song sound "wrong". I'd rather they just play a different song than play a song I like in the wrong key.

It's probably different when doing an entire album. By the second song or so, your ears have had a chance to "adjust" and you can just enjoy the performance. I also know that it probably bothers me more than a lot of people. I don't have perfect pitch, but I know what certain notes are supposed to sound like. F# has a certain color to it; it's what makes songs in D sound so happy and songs in B sound so sweet. Dropping it a half-step or more would totally change the color of the song.

Forsaken has really gone up in my estimations after the last few days - such a great sing-along.

Sorry for the late update, was on holiday in the US for the past two weeks. Tidying things up now.Where did you go?
Is anyone seeing them in Washington?
So... is there going to be a whole different US leg, or is this basically it? Anyone know?JP mentioned after their first show for the year in Rome (on July 4th) that they would swing back through Europe and the US starting in the spring because they are hitting Australia, Asia, South America, etc. during the winter months.
no way! Uncle Petrucci has only gone and hooked up Periphery to support DT for all the European tours. There is absolutely no way I am missing this!
Wembley again yes! lets hope they sell out this time, they deserve too.

No, the site says that tickets are not available yet
I'd rather see Breaking All Illusions than Outcry, but then I'd much rather see The Silent Man and Beneath the Surface than Wait for Sleep and Far from Heaven.
And I've actually seen UAGM live more times than I've seen PMU...
So which setlist is better? There's only one way to find out -
FIGHT!

TMoLS has been played in Europe (though, to be fair, not often). I'm pretty sure they'll switch the setlist up, though I'd rather see Lines in the Sand/Scarred again rather than TMoLS/Sacrificed Sons.

Yeah definitely an interesting development. I foresee it being a relatively short leg, hitting a few cities that they couldn't the first time round.
They have been playing it every night lately. The Great Debate got replaced by Outcry so the song before the encore is always Breaking All Illusions now.

I'm REALLY hoping for Breaking All Illusions in Atlanta. Definitely a "5 star" track, my favorite on the album (though others are growing on me).
Glad you guys are digging it. Personally, I would have been REALLY disappointed if they pulled The Great Debate and replaced it with BAI before my show. But, hey, I got to see the set I wanted out here on the west coast, so nothing to complain about on my end. :D

I feel your pain. You shoulda chewed them out the way you did MP on Twitter.:lol :rollin :lol
During Wait for Sleep in Morristown, there were guys talking. This one of best songs live featuring JLB & JR and the converstion behind was drowing out the song.

Yea. Some cunt sitting next to me at the DC show wouldn't stop screaming in my ear. If u heard a chick scream during ffh and all the quiet parts, in general, it was her.
in DC, yea, jordan seemed to be having a great time. honestly seemed more interactive with the audience than the last time i saw them (PN09), both when the keytar came out and between songs.
eh - he didn't seem quite so chipper at the boston show a couple of weeks ago. he looked like he was a little distracted or had something on his mind. i noticed it at the meet & greet i went to as well. from what i've been reading here, it sounds like it was just an off night for him. they are human after all...i'm sure they have their good days, great days, and days when they aren't feeling so well or things aren't going their way.I will admit, in the Infectious interview (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0KYWc7fcOWw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0KYWc7fcOWw)) He seems kind of distracted or in a mood of sorts
but yeah, overall the guys are having a blast performing so far on this tour.
:metal
Well that's the end of that leg. Wonder if we will see any minor setlist changes in December.
From MM's Facebook:The Europeans can look forward to a new set for this tour. Since there are only two ADTOE songs left to be played live, I can assume that MM means a bunch of songs from the pre-ADTOE catalogue.
'Back to work today after some hours of post touring sleep and lots of work to do there is. My ankle muscles kill. That's a good day :) I will be filming a multi-limb Rudiments video for display at the NAMM Pearl booth and doing one drum clinic: at Fork's in Nashville on Nov 15th. Outside of that, the drum work will revolve around a slew of new songs for the 2012 sets. They're Burnin' man !!!'

So quick question; the whole tour they've been sleeping on the bus? Cause damn these bunk beds are tiny. Or I have this impression cause it's JP.JP is a big guy, so I would assume its small for him.

the arpeggios in the music sheets at the beginning seriously look something out of Lost Not Forgotten. 90% sure of it.
Tried to put it into Guitar Pro, and from what I can hear it sounds exactly like the instrumental section of Outcry. I really want them to play LNF though, one of my favorites from the record.https://youtu.be/bVbbvPmJkYA

With the 6/16 Quebec City show posted, and Mangini stating that he's doind clinics in July and August, does anyone think we'll get some additional June dates here soon? It's really not that far away.I think we'll see some Australia and South America dates in the end of May or June, and then a US run in August and September and then they'll write a new album.

Sweet! The venue they're playing on Long Island is literally a 10 minute walk from my apartment.
am I just blind or is there a date when they go on sale? It's probably all venue specific.

Everyone's been beating around the bush, but they haven't mentioned the obvious reason why they are having two consecutive venues...
ahem... LIVE VIDEO ALBUM!!!
Also, just by chance that I end up being right, I suspect this 20th anniversary of I&W to have a great influence on the theme of the tour, while also still supporting ADTOE's release...
To explain my reasoning, I'll just assume you fans can put 2 and 2 together by linking the "I&W = ADTOE" allegations that developed from a few months ago. ;D
BTW, I find it funny that the tour dates were announced on Friday the 13th.
+1^ plus the fact that there is no South American leg or Australian leg scheduled for this world tour at the current time. With the N.A. 2nd leg being much earlier in the summer than I originally anticipated, I believe the South American tour will come towards the end of August or into September, which plays into DT's plan of finishing up the world tour in September. There's definitely enough time after July 21st for a break and then another leg of touring for wherever DT decides to go.Everyone's been beating around the bush, but they haven't mentioned the obvious reason why they are having two consecutive venues...

Well, actually the band already made quite clear (via informal means) that the DVD would be shot in the South American Leg. However, I myself thing that something big may be in store for the second Huntington show, something big enough to be featured extensively on a hypotetical DVD2 of the video release.
As you say, though - informal means! Obstacles arise, plans change, time is in flux and all that - plus, as RMV says, this NA tour is appearing sooner than anticipated and the SA tour still hasn't shown up. My guess, for all it isn't worth, is that logistics have delayed the South American tour a little and they've bumped up the North American one into its place, so they've moved the DVD recording to fit the schedule.Everyone's been beating around the bush, but they haven't mentioned the obvious reason why they are having two consecutive venues...
Well, actually the band already made quite clear (via informal means) that the DVD would be shot in the South American Leg. However, I myself thing that something big may be in store for the second Huntington show, something big enough to be featured extensively on a hypotetical DVD2 of the video release.
It's hard for me to believe they are skipping over the Carolinas again. ??? :tdwnFrom what I am seeing from Mike Portnoy's Tourography, Dream Theater have only played in the Carolina's once, and that was in 2009.

Well, usually Ohio gets two dates per leg, and a few times has gotten three or more so it isn't too weird but does suck for the fans in the other states whose promoters must have not had as good of deals or no deals at all but yet again the only states in the Southeast that ever gotten more than one concert are Georgia, Florida and Virginia.
Please add Ohio to that list. Three shows is the most we've gotten in a LONG time. SO THANKFUL!
Ohio getting three shows while major parts of the country (like the Southeast) were ignored is a major WTF.
Why is the Chicago date different than here?

The date in this thread is based on the original press release. I'll try and find out which is the correct date.
yes, states like NORTH CAROLINA GODDAMMIT.

Greensboro would be a good location too since it's close to halfway between Charlotte and Raleigh. I just don't understand why they never come :-[

I agree. The War Memorial Auditorium would be a great place for them to play. I have seen a couple of shows there and I like that venue very much. Plus, it's only a 3 hour drive for me. I'm glad they are playing Richmond, I can make that drive in 4 hours. Sure does beat Clearwater and Orlando like we did last October. That was a 10 hour drive!
The USA Tour dates being listed here are not the same as on other supposed official Tour lists I have seen, especially for Minneapolis. On some Tour lists it says MSP will be on the 27th and others it says the 26th. This also affects other shows including Chicago's date. So folks, be careful with making solid plans based on these dates as something has to give here. We'll just have to see what ticketmaster and the venue's websites lists the dates once they're posted. Just check with the promoter and/or venue of the city you plan on attending. They will have the corrected information once it is posted.
;)
Leaving for South Korea late night all ready for the Dream Theater Pacific Rim Tour. I have a new drum solo. All sections of this one are in some form of "5" and it is more like a drum song. It will be so great to see you all there that I have performed for in drum clinics only. This will be a special treat to play with DT for you and to eat all the extra spicy seafood everywhere !!
I forgot: have also been working on new tunes for the US Leg and on hitting the cleanest and hardest I can. On the last tour, I whacked the kicks almost to the point where I'd normally think it isn't "musical," but on the contrary, the sound engineers were saying that the kicks sounded triggered because they emanated more of a broad sound spectrum that cut through. I must say I could really feel the training when I was sore every day for lunch :) I'm interested to see if I gained strength and speed for the stage. This progress thing just never ends.

Whining about no CT is ridiculous. It would be like me whining about no Philly. Even if they didn't play there I'd still have plenty of other shows within a closer distance than what much of the country gets.This.

I'm not whining. I'm disappointed. The closest show to me is Huntington LI on a Tuesday & Wednesday night. Its a 2 hour+ drive. Not doing that. Next closest is PNC on a Saturday night. 2 1/2 hour drive. Certainly doable, but I probably won't do it.

I would have been happy with another NYC show, so I could have gone into the city on Metro North. That I would have done.
Yup, being in the area I live I am spoiled. I want my local show that's a half hour drive from home. I can bitch about it, because it used to be a mainstay stop every tour, and now its being skipped.
DT should be on stage in Seoul within an hour I would think.

According to this: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ it's only 00:12 in Seoul. That setlist may be a fake, so let's wait.

I wanna see the unison solo of TDS live :DTHIS.
I don't want to kill your legitimate enthusiams, Angry Conservative (I just can't call you RMV, it's not a name you can call a person by!), but some time has passed since the show, and on setlist.fm there's still Root listed before the solo. Do we have another source confirming TDS or is it just that one?

Well Mike Mangini said on his FB that he was learning new songs for the North American leg, so wouldn't be surprised if Asia got the same as Europe.

So, I am going to the Yokohama show on April 30th. Japanese shows don't usually have a support act but this time it says Support Act: Andy Mckee on the ticket. I have never heard of this guy until now. I was wondering if he was a support act on the other Asian shows? Anyone have any idea how long he will play? I really hope it doesn't result in DT playing a shorter set compared to the other Asian tour shows so far. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I also live 4 hours from Yokohama so knowing around what time the show will end would be great to know, since I have work the next day.

Yes he has been playing the other Asian shows. The show will probably end around 10.30 or 11, that's the usual time over in in the UK.

Oh blimey, well if it starts at 5 it will end earlier. Normally starts about 7.30 or later over here and finishes at 10.30. Andy Mckee will do about 30 mins to 45 mins and DT will be playing about 2 and a half hours.
A lot longer than this, I'm sure. 3 months?

It should also be noted that they also highlighted the fact that the Radio City show was going to be filmed for a DVD and CD release when they announced the Radio City date.

Any idea if the North American setlist this year is going to be much different from the one last year?Jordan said in his vokle chat that they will "change it up" since the last NA leg. You can expect a different base setlist of older tunes than the last NA leg. I would say it will be a combo of some of the 2nd Europe leg songs (Root, 6:00, TDEN, etc) and some newer tunes that Mangini said that he has been working on for this leg.
Lost Not Forgotten is a certainty, and I have a suspicion we'll see In the Name of God rotated with Trial of Tears as an encore.

That means I would probably get Trial of Tears if they look at the setlist from last time they were in Minnesota. In The Name of God was the final song of the set before the encore

Band hasn't paid any attention to that since Mike left, it would be luck of the rotation.
Still no venue confirmation for the DVD?? Or am I missing something? Assume its the Paramount shows, but still nothing from the band on this.
I'm really curious as to what Setlist B will be tonight.
Welp... :( No setlist rotation thus far.To be fair, the actual tour hasn't even started yet. The opener doesn't start playing with until tomorrow.
Comparing the setlists between the previous US tour and the current one, I much prefer the ones from the previous tour. The Great Debate is the only real weak point in those sets. Everything else is solid if not awesome. I think 6:00, TDEN, AFIL, Surrounded, WIMY/TTTSTA bring this new setlist down, along with the overplayed TSCO. And This is the Life is my least favorite new song. Everything IMO, of course.
the only weak part in the setlist for this tour for me would be TDEN. would love to have 6:00 go into the mirror, or anything elseThey should have played a song from TOT in the place of TDEN. I find the lack of one song from TOT (and FII) somewhat disturbing... :lol

How long has the show been?DT - about 2 hours and 5 minutes
This may have been said already...
I saw how all of the setlists are basically identical, and it was pissing me off. Like, Portnoy is gone, so they can't continue to make decent varying setlists? Then it hit me, maybe it's too hard for Mangini to learn a bunch of new songs, so they had to limit the setlist. Maybe future tours will be better?

Someone has been shamelessly copying DTF's work to Wikipedia without giving credit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Dramatic_Turn_of_Events_TourI absolutely hate it when people do this, and unfortunately I've had this happen to me. I wrote and extensive list of the gear JP used on Dream Theater tours as well as his rig during G3 in 2007 and put it up on the Dream Theater wikia page and then someone just copied it onto the wikipedia site without even so much as a little line saying "this list was originally posted on the Dream Theater wikia page" or something like that. People are shameless nowadays.
Don't tell me somebody else is keeping songs play count.
Is cyberdrummer by any chance running that wiki page? Cause otherwise a scumbag is. At least credit the forum for the freakin data bitch.
Here's hoping for a Finnish date.

Close enough, eh? ;D I bet they'll come to both Finland and Sweden :) However, it looks like they're breaking the tradition of kicking off the European leg in Helsinki (unless they'll play there at the very beginning of the year, which is unlikely). Here's hoping for a Finnish date.

:caffeine: I hope they don't overlap with the february exams session.Oh come on, it's just one day
Here we go, waiting for a Budapest date. Or anything near, actually, but at this point I'm kinda used to Budapest. As for the January or February exams, screw that, this is Dream Theater we're talking about. Mora & wasteland, do not disappoint me. ;DImagine if they added a Belgrade date out of all realms of possibility :lol

Hopefully they come to Connecticut again on the American Leg. They haven't been in this state since PN09 and the long car rides aren't pleasant.

No swedish date? :(
New Tour places, clearly supporting of the new album, has been revealed.

Well that sucks :-[ The crowd at the Glasgow gig last year was really disappointing though - don't think it being all-seater helped, but it seemed so subdued. I didn't get it, it's Dream Theater FFS, show some excitement and appreciation! No idea if that sort of thing has any impact on where they choose to go on future tours though. Probably not and it was a good turnout, the place seemed pretty full - just no atmosphere from the crowd >:( not sure it was the crowds fault I am sure it was the venue the Clyde auditorium sucks the soul out of any music played in it!! I would love to see them in the barrowlands!!
Unlikely I'll be seeing them this tour then. I may be persuaded if the new album is incredible, they play LTL or Metropolis on this leg and/or the support band are someone I really like. Otherwise it's just gonna be too expensive I think :'(
Not sure if this has been stated, but at least for the spanish shows, if you go to the page of ticketmaster where they sell the tickets https://www.ticketmaster.es/nav/es/musica/giras/entradas-dream-theater/index.html?q=dre&t=fast (https://www.ticketmaster.es/nav/es/musica/giras/entradas-dream-theater/index.html?q=dre&t=fast)(here), there's a tiny picture that says "An evening with DT" and in the page where you buy the ticket it says "Dream Theater", nothing about other artists to be confirmed or whatever, just DT.
Sooo... hoping for an official confirmation, but it looks that this leg is going to be "An evening with..." :D
About the swedish dates, I hope that they come to Sweden Rock Festival instead during 4-5-6-7 june. I'm tired of them only coming to Stockholm all the time. They are most welcome to play in Gothenburg :)

Man!!!! That's expensive!!! Here in Florence you just have to pay 40 euros for the show (50 seated).
You'll go to 2 shows? Lucky you!
Australia? Surely they can't skip us twice in a row??!!!
I notice 3 or 4 shows in a row sometimes.. does that make Evening With a lot less likely?
"An Evening With" is back! It will be amazing tour. Long concerts with new CD!
We are waiting for Dream Theater in Poland. Thanks for our label Rock Serwis for inviting the band to our country.
Ed Hughes I thought they scrapped the "Evening With..." concerts a while ago. Don't think they'll go back to it either, though I would love it if they did. Proof?
Symphonic Theater of Dreams Hello Ed Hughes
It is information from our label. They`ve invited Dream Theater band so they know details of event
I can see only one reason for going back to the Evening With format: they're going to play the entire new (concept) album as one of the sets ;)
At least no support band has been announced so far... I'd be happy enough with a regular show, since I've never seen DT live before, but of course I'll be especially stoked if it's going to be An Evening with DT! :caffeine:
If we have this kind of schedule is that because he agreed to it, so he is positive that he will be able to pull it off at least decently.Yes, I hope this is the case. James, you can pull it off - we believe in you! :)
Seetickets didn't. There's a lot of evidence hinting at it being the case.
From Symphonic Theater Of Dreams fb:Quote"An Evening With" is back!

Not an official information but very likely! :CJS:
Has his voice in general not improved since then? And perhaps his general fitness is better?
Me when Manchester date was announced - :metal
Me when I saw the ticket price (thanks Duncan for the heads up) - :omg:
Seems now that the Copenhagen date is gone, and instead there's a new Sweden gig on Feb22 at Annaxet.
My two cents: they'll do both.
Or Awake 20th anniversary :tup
Yaaay! A Swedish date! :metal
Regarding ticket prices, we in Croatia will pay only 33 €. Seems they create the prices based on the country's economy, which is more than fair. :tupWoop dee doo, that's not too expensive. Definitely increases my chances of going, although I'll likely have to give up one of this fall's concerts to go, and also there's an Iced Earth concert in Belgrade on the 4th of February that I likely won't be able to go to. Oh well, it's DT!
Yaaay! A Swedish date! :metalWhere? I don't see it. ???
Where? I don't see. Its not listed on their homepage or facebook page ???Seems now that the Copenhagen date is gone, and instead there's a new Sweden gig on Feb22 at Annaxet.
My two cents: they'll do both.
The Copenhagen date is still there on Feb 20th.
Rush were only Ł60, and I can't see DT putting on a show of that magnitude. Totally agree - today's ticket prices are a rip off.
I notice 3 or 4 shows in a row sometimes.. does that make Evening With a lot less likely?
Yeah, first thing I noticed. That's asking too much of James IMO.
I still can't get my head around the fact that they're returning to the Evening With format! This is the DT I fell in love with back in late 2004.
I would very much appreciate it if Dream Theater came to Indonesia. We are an extremely dedicated fan base and many of us have not been able to experience Dream Theater live. Also, I have much respect for MikeEhm, fixed, and, please do.PortnoyMangini, who is one of my idols and a drum god.
....
I think that this VIP thing is BS.
Hopefully they stop at some GA place around here and I can get there early!

I kind of guess the reason why they've stopped playing GA/standing venues and gone for all seaters is exactly so they can start charging silly money for VIP packages. The whole thing is just a cash-grab IMO. I'm a huge fan of GA gigs - the people who get there early and queue all day get to the front - simple and fair.
I would be totally dead if I had to stand at a concert for 3 hours or more :lol Luckily the Ice Hall is seated.

But I have a weak back and feet! :-\I would be totally dead if I had to stand at a concert for 3 hours or more :lol Luckily the Ice Hall is seated.Think of this: senator Davis from Texas stood for almost 13 hours delivering her flood speech the other day :D
It was there earlier today :omg:

Ahhh the good ol days... I grew up in N. Hollywood/Burbank in the 70's 80,s and into the 90's and there were just tons of concerts to choose from!Hopefully they come to Connecticut again on the American Leg. They haven't been in this state since PN09 and the long car rides aren't pleasant.
This is why I love living in a Los Angeles suburb
shows are never more than an hour and a half away (that's with traffic)
Unless they are in Anaheim, which is like 2.5 with bad traffic but the venue is worth it
What did we call the longer shows in South America last year? Those didn't have an opening act right? And weren't those shows just as long as Score and almost as long as Budokan? Maybe just a few minutes short?
Is Zagreb close enough? It is, and I'll most certainly be there. But I got used to Budapest over the years, it's a Dream Theater city of some sort. ;D
Does anybody know anything about the swedish date? It's on this thread but not on the official site. Yet, some ticket sites list it as confirmed. Does anybody know what's up with that? Would be weird if they didn't play in Sweden at all...
Just booked my tickets for Wolverhampton front row balcony stage left woo hoo!! Is there a good rock pub nearby?

I'm going to cry if a Houston date on the U.S. tour is announced. To the best of my knowledge, the only time they've skipped Houston is on the second leg of their last tour. They still played Austin and Dallas, though.
Would be my first DT concert
I just emailed ticketmaster to ask a few questions about timing and opening acts... this was my reply.QuoteThank you for your email.
I am sorry for any inconvenience caused, but unfortunately accurate runtime information is usually only available on the day of the event after any sound checks have been completed. If runtime information has not already been made available, please contact us again after this time and we will do our best to give you an idea of approximate event timings.
The only information we have at the moment is the the door time, door open at 7pm.
Also there will be a support act.
I apologise that I am unable to offer any further assistance at present, but should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us
Huh? This makes no sense. JLB said on Twitter it would just be "[us] and the fans" and a load of people have screenshots of their emails/tickets saying "An Evening With Dream Theater". I have my ticket here from last year at the Wembley show and it doesn't say "An Evening With". Maybe its just a few shows will get the long sets?I think I'll trust JLB more than some guy from Ticketmaster, not sure why anyone would be asking them in the first place, why would they know?
Guys, don't worry: it's just a standard ticket. It will be An Evening With without an opening band.
I don't think so: doors opens at 19.00, concert starts at 20.00 and the curfew is at 23 if i'm not been told wrong. So the time fits perfectly for an evening with.

I have looked into your query and I am sorry to advise we don't have that information at the moment, I have had a look at the Dream Theater official website and they don't have any specific details at the moment with regards to runtime and special guests. I can advise generally that gigs at Wembley Arena tend to finish around 22:30 - 23:30.
I hope this helps!
Best wishes,

If we don't trust them who should we trust? :lol I'm confident in a EW show, with must minimal concerns.This.
Cool name for the tour!:sadpanda:
But who's along for the ride? Not me it seems cause I live in Sweden.

So no ´An evening with´ :-\The shows will be in the format, but it's not mentioned in the name of the tour.

Any chance this will be an evening with?
I miss those :( even though I understand why they wouldn't do it again unless it was a very special occasion.
I'd be surprised if they skipped Denver again - was there a reason for missing it out last time? For example, low turnout at previous shows?

Um, I guess you missed the news, because it actually is an Evening With tour :) (no, I'm not joking).
I will probably go to Copenhagen if they don't come to Sweden. It's not that much further away than Stockholm anyway.Maybe there are some details that just need to get worked out. It would seem strange if they didn't have a date in Sweden considering there are three days off between DK and Finland and unless they sail directly from Copenhagen or something (if there's even a route for that) they need to cross Sweden to get there.
I can safely say that Along For The Ride is gonna be a track on their new album.Don't know if you're doing it right, but I'm 100% sure the new album will be self-titled :neverusethis:
Am I doing it right?
Not sure what I'd rather it be, just that I think this is lame. Using the exact title from one of the tracks is bleh.
it is NOT better than Dream TheatourYes it is, that's ridiculous.

THINK OF THE SPONSERS HEF!!!
They could call it the Up Yours Wales (Again) Tour
Wasn't it a leisure centre? I'm 90% sure it was a leisure centre. They could call it the Up Yours Wales (Again) Tour
In all fairness, apart from the Newport Centre (which I don't think was full in 2007) are there any other suitable venues in Wales? The arena in Cardiff is too big.

This doesn't change anything about the venues in Wales, it's just something I half-remembered.
That's great ;) I also like to plan vacation and travelling around a great concert I wouldn't be able to see in my home country (like going to see Black Sabbath in Amsterdam later this year). However, up to now I haven't made up a plan about visiting a concert on another continent. :lol

Yes it was! I remember queuing outside and watching all the families going for their early evening swim! Bizarre. They also use it for the Welsh Open snooker. It was a very good gig though, and relatively intimate for a DT show in recent times.
The only thing that I'm worried about regarding the tour is this:
Why aren't there any date for Norway yet? Usually they announce the Norwegian date pretty early on.. ???
Hopefully we get some news about it soon. Or are they planning on pushing Norway to the second European Leg later in 2014?
Hadn't been so bad to get a spring-ish date this time around, less snow and cold to worry about too.

Finally some good news! And it's the day after the Copenhagen show too. So it seems there's still room for Sweden to get a concert between the Norway and Finland shows. :tup

I know it's really hard to believe, but I wouldn't mind seeing some dates either. I, for one, think Dream Theater is a pretty good band and might be an okay live show too! That tune, Illumination Theorem should be a nice live jam..
:o wish it was March alreadyWhy?
Can't wait to see an "Evening With" show. I've never had the experience.
Strongly considering using a week of vacation to go see the band on this tour. I hope they play in NC, but more realistically, in Washington or maybe Atlanta.
Hopefully soon. I'll be there :corn
Another question will be if the North American tour will be the 'Evening With' format.
I can't tell you much about the NA tour dates.....but what I can tell you with 100% certainty backed by a Lords of London Insurance Policy is that there will NOT be a show played in St. Louis, Missouri. You can take that to the bank.
So Chicago, Kansas City, Milwaukee.....I'll see one, or heck....maybe all three of you in 2014.
Just checking in to say that I am READY for some US tour dates!!

Yep, been ready for some US tour dates for months. Hand 'em over, DT.
John, you’re in the midst of planning the world tour that kicks off this coming January. How is it coming so far?
Really well. Were calling it “An Evening with Dream Theater” and it will be two full sets with an intermission. Just a ton of music. Our goal is to make it the best Dream Theater live experience ever and when you enter the venue, our plan is to just take you into our world. In addition to the music, there will be a complex video and lighting component that really will create this kind of parallel universe where we live. There will be many musical surprises. The goal is always to raise the bar from the previous tour but this time I think were really going little bit crazy. I have to add to that it’s been extra exciting for our drummer Mike Mangini because there’s plenty of music in our back catalog that he’s never played before so for him a lot of this really is going to be a new experience. But I promise you this will be unlike any other Dream Theater show you’ve ever seen or experienced and it’s going to be very special.
MANY MUSICAL SURPRISES :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg:
I don't suppose by U.S. dates, they mean Canada too.

When will then be now?soon....
There's an announcement that there's going to be an announcement?

Yes. It is a pre-announcement.
Hey, look, all I know is, when DT Marketing sends me an email saying to post something, I post it when they tell me to. There usually isn't much more of an explanation other than the date and time to post it. I am but a lowly minion. A mere cog in the machine. :lol

future.

10 days later, still nothing. :tdwn :tdwn
pleeeeeeease add some Aussie dates later  We missed out on the ADTOE tour and if we miss out this time I might need to channel my inner Yngwie and unleash the f&*$ing fury ;D
Sydney and their pathetic turnouts are reducing the attractiveness of touring Australia but a few acts have figured out what to do - concentrate on Melbourne and (for wolfking) Brisbane. Hell - Steel panther can pack in 7,500 down here no probs (and the other night packed out Myer Music Bowl on the same night as Bon Jovi had 45,000 at Docklands).

There's nothing pathetic about Sydney's turnouts, and that has nothing to do with bands not coming here. :tdwn The problem is just that we're a shithole country to tour in general, due to only having a handful of real cities (Sydney easily being one of the biggest and most important to play for any band that tours here), and a whole bunch of nothing inbetween, meaning it's a lot of travel for very few shows.

That's a lie. I built a stage in my backyard for DT to play, and they never came. I even posted arrow signs and everything so they knew where to go.
I just hope they play the Beacon Theatre since I'll be living in NYC by then.
Just to make sure... DT would never skip southern California, right?
You forgot San Diego! :PJust to make sure... DT would never skip southern California, right?
Last tour they played here 3? 4 times? Once at the Nokia Theater (LA) and The Grove (Anahiem), and then the Grove again and then at The Gibson in Studio City :)
I'm just tired of driving down to / through LA. Santa Barbara would be AWESOME...

Hope they play somewhere better in Philly this time. I'm not driving through the murder capitol of the world (Camden) and several areas of Philly which are probably just as bad / if not worse to see DT again.
Whoo! LA date seems to be confirmed...
Any chance of additional shows in LA or the OC?
Guess DT will announce the entire tour dates...soon.

Is it me or are they playing smaller venues this tour? Or am I just used to seeing them in bigger venues 'round here.
We’ll be premiering some songs we’ve never played live before, as well as featured tracks from our latest self-titled release and plenty of classic DT songs for all of our long time and hard-core fans. We are all looking forward to a great night of music and super-psyched to kick it all off!”
Just want to highlight this...Quotesongs we’ve never played live before
Let the speculation...BEGIN!!!
Also, I'm not passing up the Washington DC show this time around!!!
-Marc.
Seems like a short run. Maybe a summer fall run too?
Holy crap, they're playing a 20k people venue here. That's sick.
You're messing with Texas Dee Tee, bad for your health..
Is this really all the NA leg dates? Isn't this much shorter than the Dramatic tour first NA leg?
No Arizona date. :sadpanda:
No St. Louis date. Again. Shocking.
As for songs they've never played before, he was referencing songs not from the new album, and unless I am mistaken, the only songs they've never played before are Space Dye Vest, The Shattered Fortress and The Best of Times, right? I mean, he could be referring to non-album songs like Raw Dog or several of the FII demo songs, but I doubt it.
San Francisco peeps, Lefty O'Douls again?
Holy crap, they're playing a 20k people venue here. That's sick.
That's awesome.
Holy crap, they're playing a 20k people venue here. That's sick.
Anyone familiar with Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC? Is it a seated or standing venue? Looks like standing, but they also have an option for seating. Just curious if I need to grab a good seat right away, or sit back and just pick up a GA ticket for whenever.
I don't know for sure yet, but I have a feeling there are more dates to come.
If I recall correctly, that's where the Gigantour DVD took place. It's awesome that they're upping their game and playing bigger places, at least outside the US.Holy crap, they're playing a 20k people venue here. That's sick.
Same with Montreal. The Bell Centre is the NHL arena where the Canadiens play. That's huge. Quebec always has been a much bigger metal market, but that's awesome that they are doing an evening with show at a venue of that size. Almost makes me want to head up there.
Cool that Toronto is the kickoff. Can't wait for that!

Standing I think. Check out this video from Coheed's DVD which was filmed there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbGCefIB8nY

Guys, the North American leg isn't going to be only 5 weeks long. There will be more dates announced.
No, I don't know this for sure, but come on.
No St.Louis again.
:censored :'(

No, I don't know this for sure, but come on.
The problem is the way it's talked about. It says the tour will wrap up in Guadalajara. There is no inkling that there will be more dates. They definitely need to clarify one way or the other so people can either accept it and not hold out with false hope or people can calm down and wait for the next batch of dates.

There are PLENTY of gaps in the current itinerary for more dates. As I said earlier, I am not 100% sure just yet, but the info I've been given certainly suggests there'll be more dates. But don't hold me to that.

Soooo, who is the pre-sale for? How does one buy tickets on the pre-sale date?
Not if I get to Denver first. :huckleberry:
Question is... will the second leg be an EVENING WITH... run?
The Roadrunner press release has a date listed for the Paramount in Huntington, NY, that's not listed on the official website: https://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/news/dream-theater-tour-20131217The Riverside date is in San Diego in this link. Looks like it's not all sorted out yet. The DT site says Riverside, though, so I'm guessing RR is wrong.
Balls! No Seattle or Portland!FYI
Well, I don't know what the hell was happened but DT hasn't came to Turkey for 5 years. It's just depressing.
I'm in Florida so absolutely no luck with any of these dates. Why is the tour so short? Nothing about more dates to come or anything.
Balls! No Seattle or Portland!FYI
There is a Seattle AND Oregon (though NOT Portland date).
Seattle is the 14th (check TM) and I believe Salem, Oregon is the 15th.
It would be cool if they announced an Ottawa date. There's clearly a gap in between Montreal on March 21st and the next show four days later. I don't want to have to travel 2-3 hours to Montreal or 5 hours to Toronto for a DT show if I don't have to. But If I have to, I fucking will!
I'm assuming there will be more dates announced. There are too many Vacant dates. I'm hoping they announce a NJ show so I can avoid Manhattan. :lol Otherwise, Hammerstein it is. It's a decent size place. I saw Maiden there.
As far as playing songs never played before, I'm guessing SDV and maybe Don't Look Past Me. I don't see them playing TBOT but you never know.
Right there with you. Although, traveling to Red Bank on a Monday is gonna suck. But, here I am complaining about getting to a show in my own state when other people are bitching about not having anything within 500 miles of where they live. So, I guess I'll shut up now.
So no possibilities on more tour dates being released today or tomorrow?
Anyway, here's the list as I understand it at the moment:
2014-04-14 - Paramount Theatre - Seattle, WA

Everything I see shows MaCaw Hall, including Ticketmaster and MaCaw Hall's website.
Anyone ever been to the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC before? thinkin about buying floor tickets..
Tickets in Detroit start at $144 and go to over $300.00.
Last time I saw DT at this venue they were with 2 openers and tix were around $50.00.

The Roadrunner website says different, but I think I trust the venue website more! I wish there weren't so many mixed messages :lol

And they go on sale Friday! Interesting roll-out for this thing.
Tix showing at $35/$45/$55 and buying at the box will save Ticketmaster fees. Their site coul dalso update their band photo from the BC&SL one.
Just scored my my Platinum Ticket for the Toronto show.
LCF Row A, Seat 29. I have an isle seat & pretty much dead centre.... ;D
Probably doing the NY show. What sucks about that is that I want to be close to the stage, but I'm short and my dad hates standing room.
Boston is too far and we'd have to drive to get there. My dad certainly does not want to drive 130 miles at midnight on a Wednesday.
It'd be nice if they came back to a CT theater like the Oakdale, but that's clearly not gonna happen...
Oh well.
The fucking thing isn't working for me.. I can't get past the sign up page!!Now I can't, I click "Sign Up" and nothing happens.

I'm good. Still..WTF?

anyone familiar with this program DT is using to sell tickets through their website? was looking at Philly dates which aren't on presale or anything on live nation yet, but you can buy tickets on DTs site. the seat it showed me was pretty average so i might just wait, i probably should have been up early for it. anyone else try and buy that way?
Coming from Morris County after work straight down 287 to the Parkway or taking 78 to the Parkway doesn't lend itself to a fun time on the road. If I go by myself (and wife decides to stay home), I can bail a little early and get a jump on rush hour.Right there with you. Although, traveling to Red Bank on a Monday is gonna suck. But, here I am complaining about getting to a show in my own state when other people are bitching about not having anything within 500 miles of where they live. So, I guess I'll shut up now.
How bad could the traffic be there?
Was that the Ed Hunter tour w/ Clutch opening? I was there, too.Anyone ever been to the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC before? thinkin about buying floor tickets..
Yes...I saw Iron Maiden there when Bruce first rejoined the band. If you don't mind standing in a packed crowd (which I do) then you should be fine. It's a pretty big place. Ironically enough when I saw IM there, Mike Portnoy walked right by me.
Am I right in thinking that the Montreal show will be 15,000? It would surely be the band's biggest ever North American show?I'm just wondering what they will do for a stage? Majesty logo in the center definitely....It'll be cool to see
Got my tickets for LA Orpheum and Riverside. Again, it's kinda confusing the way it gives you seats, I'd suggest trying a couple different times to see if it gives a different row. And it's also crappy that it said the presale was tomorrow, and then it went on sale today without any notice.
Anyway I'm gonna see AN EVENING WITH DREAM THEATER TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Were those the cheapest?
They also came for PN09. The Oakdale isn't intended to be much of a music theater, more of a theater theater.Probably doing the NY show. What sucks about that is that I want to be close to the stage, but I'm short and my dad hates standing room.

Oh well.
The Oakdale is the best venue I've ever seen a concert at. It's my favorite. I've seen DT there four or five times, but they haven't been back since the Chaos in Motion tour. I love DT and all, but to go see them in NY turns into a really expensive day. Way more than I'm willing to spend to go see a concert. The trip costs more than the tickets do.
CT is such a shitty place for bands that are in the middle, popularity wise. There are Toad's Place and The Webster, but those are only good if you don't plan on attracting more than 200 people. The Meadows holds 25,000 when they really cram people in there. DT played there with Yes, but it was during the winter months when they had the lawn closed off. Even then, it still holds 9,000 or so (I believe). There is the stadium that Uconn plays in, but that's ridiculously huge, I saw The Police there. The Oakdale seems to be the only venue for in between bands. Sure DT never sold it out, but they'd still get close to 3000 fans in there. That venue hasn't been doing much of anything lately. The best act (subjective) to come through there in the last year was Steel Panther, and they played in the arena, not the main stage.

$102 was for the orchestra level at the Orpheum. The balcony is $60. I think the orch and balcony levels in Riverside are both $60 and maybe the more expensive tix for that show are already taken? Idk really.
I'd completely forgotten that they only play South of Denver if they have an opening act. Since I don't care enough to spend any more than the ticket cost to see them, I guess there's no DT for me for a while. I'll just wait for the DVD, which will be beat for beat identical to the show anyway. And you will party with the tickster! :metal
At least I'm getting to see TA a couple of times.
Which means a Bartoless DT concert experience for me! :(Tell her to hold off until you can do the Grand Canyon right. I'd only want to experience it floating down the Colorado river during the day and tripping balls on the banks at night. Seeing it from above sounds more like a 2 hour detour than an actual destination.
I'm actually debating New York or Chicago shows, the wife wants to make a trip out of Texas and she has friends in NY that she really wants to see and I have friends in Chicago, beside the fact that it would be awesome to see Chicago. I have work to do though cause her heart is still set on the Grand Canyon and as soon as I can convince her that it's just a glorified hole in the ground which does great as a wallpaper but loses it's appeal about 20 minutes into actually being there then I could sell her NY or Chicago, hopefully it won't be too late to get tickets to these shows.
So the CA shows went on sale on DT's website yesterday before the Live Nation presales (LA was today and Riverside is in January), but it almost seems like not all the tickets were even on sale from DT's website.. Like some seats are being saved for those "pre"sales... Could that happen, or is there no way?For any concert the venue gets blocked out. So yes, DT will get a block to sell. LN will get a block. American Express often takes a block. Various entities that you've never heard of will get a block. A huge block never goes on sell at all to be held back for VIP fucktards. Tis the nature of the concert industry nowadays.
I ordered mine yesterday from DT.net and closest I could get was 7th row. Now someone just said they got first row today from the LN pre-sale, unless I read that wrong.
That's really freakin stupid. They should at least be clear about which seats go where. I don't even care that the tickets get spread out to be sold in a bunch of different places, I just wish they'd say where to buy which seats, which day BEFORE they go on sale. That way it's fair game, and whoever wants to spend the money and effort to get them the second they go on sale, at least knows how to do so.Being the old mother f er that I am I remember sleeping on a cold sidewalk to get my tickets. You paid the price but you got great seats.
And to be clear I am TOTALLY happy with my seats! It's just annoying how confusing this is to work with. Thanks for answering btw!

I don't want to sound sceptical at all, but do they really think they could attract 50k people with just 3 gigs?
And not a single Texas date... :\A consequence of the evening with format. They only play down South as part of a package deal or with other bands opening. My guess is that later on in 2014 they'll start a second leg with a couple of bands that nobody cares about and then play Texas, Arizona, Florida, etc.
Does anyone know where to get tickets for the Chicago show? I can't find it on ticketmaster or any other site.

Me either! DT.net redirects to the Chicago Theatre website, but it's not listed there. What's goin on DTF?
So it looks like I'll be hitting both the NY and NJ shows. The NJ show is a definite. My friend will most likely get on the guest list for the NY show through his company. If he can't swing that, and finances are in order, I'll still hit the NY show. What NJ show?

Wow, can't believe the start of the tour is almost here!
So what is/are the song(s) they never played live before that we will be seeing this year?
Good, I'm glad you guys think the same way, because I want to check the setlist of the first show tonight, and not have it be ridiculously different from the one I see in a couple months :D
Yeah, figured you wouldn't care for it. :lol Still, a number of songs that have never been played before, especially Space-Dye Vest & Scarred is pretty exciting.
I'm also bummed TSF made it into the set in lieu of TGP, which I really want to see live.THIS. I get they wanted to play songs never played before, and TSF is gonna be fun as hell live, but i think every DT fan (at least a huge majority) would rather TGP>TSF.
And the encore.... Just.... Yeah, I'm gonna cry pretty hard if they change the encore for the North American leg.Actually, I wouldn't mind if they put the SFAM anniv. spot where Awake is and add in Home, then put Awake as the encore and take out Lie.
I'm starting to wonder if them having not played it their entire career wasn't because of Moore, but because MP didn't want to play it.
They played FIVE songs of Awake (Plus LSOAD and SDV)?FTFY

I wonder what the setlist B is gonna look like.
Yeah not sure how much rotation there will actually be this tour. I can see them switching it up a little bit between legs, but maybe not that much between shows.
I popped the tracks into a playlist and it came to 2.6 hours including FAS. That didn't include the drum solo or breaks so I'm guessing it comes out to 3 hours.

Thank you! I am very thrilled regarding the concert in London, now I have just to explain to my wife (that is so kind to accompany me even if she is not a DT fan) that the concert will last 3 hours :lol
I hate to say it, but I'm disappointed with it personally. Nothing at all from IaW (my #3 album), nothing at all from SDOIT (my #1 album), only 1 song even from my top 20 (ToT), and 4 of my bottom 10 songs. And then they go and play TSF instead of what could have been The Glass Prison. The SFAM chunk and ToT are definitely the saving graces for me.
For a band with a discography with such a high percentage of songs I love, there's a lot there I don't really care for. :dunno:

The tracks come to 2hrs 33mins in total studio time, add I'd say ten minutes to that total for extensions and JLB talking to the crowd, and 15 minutes intermission = 2 hours 58 mins.
You could fit War Inside My Head in there somewhere ;D

Even better would be to play ALL of SFAM again and leave out most, if not ALL, of the mediocre DT12 songs!!......
My ONLY gripe about THIS show's set...is the exclusion of... "Behind The Veil" ...
What about this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms7YbfHePZE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms7YbfHePZE)
People generally have two legs, so I would expect so.:rollin
I just can't fathom that they are not playing The Bigger Picture or Behind The Veil...My fav is Surrender To Reason! They must play it in NYC!!!
I just thought they'd take the "evening with" opportunity to play the new album in it's entirety. That would have been a really cool thing. Kinda like the TOT tour.
I just can't fathom that they are not playing The Bigger Picture or Behind The Veil...
I was stunned, as they have never played more than one Awake song per night in recent years, "A Mind Beside Itself" not withstandingActually a lot of shows in 2012 included both 6:00 and The Silent Man in the setlist, and even on the BC&SL tour they often played either Erotomania and Voices or The Mirror and Lie.

The setlist so far is great, but i think they should replace "The Looking Glass" "On The Backs Of Angels" and "Breaking All Illusions" with "A Change Of Seasons". They haven't played it live since 2004 (I think) With the change the setlist should look like this:

I really hope they play it live when they come to Riverside, it's my favorite Dream Theater song, and my favorite song of all time.
I still say it's a little much to ask James to sing 4 nights in a row at this point in his career.
I still say it's a little much to ask James to sing 4 nights in a row at this point in his career.
With 3 instrumentals, and a long break in Illumination Theory, this shouldn't be as taxing as it might seem. 3 hour set; 20 minute break + about 30 minutes of music where he's not singing... it's really not much more for him than a non 'Evening With' format.
A bit disappointed they haven't included Surrender to Reason, The Bigger Picture and Behind The Veil.
In watching some of the videos for the tour so far, is it me, or does John Myung seem really into it?
This a lot. I'd rather have these than any of the other songs from the album with the exception of Illumination Theory.
The only thing I would change to the setlist would be removing On the Backs of Angels and putting Behind the Veil, Surrender to Reason or The Bigger Picture. Any of those 3 songs would work wonders, considering OTBOA was played in every single show from the ADTOE tour. I love the set the way it is, but I'm truly dying to listen those 3 songs live.
So it was - I stand corrected. If it makes you feel any better, it was only played a total of 28 times:
I just read the updated North American tour and setlist. Phenomenal setlist, but I'm utterly disappointed at how few US dates there are. It seems they almost always make a point to hit the Dallas, Texas area. But nothing even remotely close. DT was the very first real "rock" concert I brought my son to on the last tour. I'm hoping to repeat that event. Fingers crossed that more US dates will follow....They'll do a second leg with a support act and hit the Texas cities. They just never come down here doing the evening with format. I'm surprised AZ got a date; they normally get skipped as well.
I'll be curious to see what they'll do if they decide to do a second round of touring in Europe and North America on this tour. In Europe, they generally stuck with the Evening With format for both legs, but in North America, they did a package tour, but I get the sense that was more MP's doing than anything (keeping in line with his wanting to always change things up). For those cities that don't get hit on this leg of the tour, I hope that they'll consider another Evening With leg later in the year.I just read the updated North American tour and setlist. I suspect that part of the problem is that they only want to play Nextstage, witch is far too big a venue for them to sell alone. Even with their package tours they only sell about a third of it. HOB is a perfectly nice venue with the best sound in Dallas. It's perfect for them, but it never happens.I'm not sure it's merely them wanting to play a specific venue. I'd imagine it has more to do with the promoters not being willing to front the money that the band commands in other markets. After all, Dallas isn't the only city in Texas that's big enough to warrant a DT concert. I know they've played Austin, and certainly San Antonio and Houston are huge cities too. The fact that they are in the same relative area makes it a better bet in terms of mapping out a touring route (especially if you were to include New Orleans and maybe Oklahoma City). So I think it has to do with what kind of offers they are getting from promoters there, the amount of time the band wants to be on the road for a given leg (generally no more than 5 weeks) and them going to some other cities they haven't played recently (you can't cover all the major cities effectively within that short a time period). I'm sure this is the same reason why Florida and the south in general don't get as many dates as the southwest, midwest and northeast.
Gotta be honest here, that explanation doesn't exactly endear me to them any. Plenty of bands do just fine playing down here, and the notion that we get skipped time and time again because we won't generate their asking price doesn't really sit all that well. I don't expect them to tour at a loss by any means but it's certainly possible to play down here and make money. I'd happily hit Houston or San Antonio, and plenty of people in either of those cities would come up here. Would it really be a problem to play one gig for less money to appeasea fairly enormous geographical market? And I don't really buy your geographical aspect, either. They're saturating the NE playing comparatively small venues. If they only wanted 4 weeks in the US, spending 2 of them in the NE doesn't seem all that cool. There comes a point where you have to try and balance greed with loyalty to your fans.I suspect that part of the problem is that they only want to play Nextstage, witch is far too big a venue for them to sell alone. My post is simply the best idea I can imagine coming up with to explain the situation. Again, it makes no sense for them to skip a specific city and/or region just because they want to/don't want to play at certain venues, which is what you suggested in your previous post.
And to be fair, I don't know the economics of this situation. I'm basing this on the suggestion you made. What I do know is that bands of all shapes and sizes play down here profitably, and if they can't make enough money playing Texas, either they're doing something very wrong, or they're thinking a bit too highly of themselves.
Just admit it, DT hates Texas ;)
Just admit it, DT hates Texas ;)can't blame them
These are good points, and as we've both pointed out we're mainly just talking out of our asses about this. Hell, it might be as simple as Cramx's scenario. :lolGotta be honest here, that explanation doesn't exactly endear me to them any. As for them "saturating the NE", it is true that they play many shows there. But I think there's a couple of reasons why it makes more sense there than anywhere else - not only is it closer to their home (there could be some bias involved because of this), but there are many more cities in that area that are closer together, requiring less expense in transporting everything. And I don't think that they're playing comparatively small venues, if you're comparing to a House of Blues, which I imagine holds roughly 1500 people or less. I don't know the specifics of all the venues that DT's played around the NE region in recent years, but from my own personal experiences at the shows I attended in the NE, almost every one was larger than that.
As for them playing "one gig for less money to appease a fairly enormous geographical market", it may sounds like a reasonable request on paper, but it's a matter of making it all fit. Not just within the self-imposed 5 week window, but also so that it is cost effective in terms of transporting everything from city to city. If they were to play only one show in Texas as opposed to 3 or 4, I think it would actually be less cost effective. And let's remember that DT is a business, not a charity, so they gotta do what makes sense business-wise.
Again, I don't know all the details of why they skipped Texas so often when it came to headlining gigs, so there could be other things we haven't thought of. Hopefully they'll lengthen that self-imposed time limit on touring in a few years, now that most of their kids are in high school and will soon be in college (and no longer at home).
At least you can be happy that they're starting to do headlining shows in Texas again - by my count, 3 in 2007, 3 in 2011 and 4 in 2012. Whether there will be a second North American leg on this tour remains to be seen, but if there is, I'd guess that some Texas dates would be included.
The PNC Bank Arts Center is a modern amphitheatre located in Holmdel Township, New Jersey, USA. About 17,500 people can occupy the amphitheater; there are 7,000 seats and the grass area can hold about 10,500 people.
Just admit it, DT hates Texas ;)LOL! One could assume so, if it weren't for the fact that they still do play shows there! Granted, they've been package shows, with some headlining and opening shows mixed in, but it's better than nothing.
As for the smaller venues part, the only place they play in Dallas has a capacity of 6350. I didn't see anything close to that size in the NE. Problem is they only sell about 20% of the place, so it's not surprising that it isn't cost effective. As seen below, only the middle 3 sections of the 1 and 2 hundred level (the pit is actually 3 sections of seats when they play) are even offered for sale:In reading over your response, another thing came to mind - they have booking agents that book their shows, so it could be a matter of the booking agents having some bias. I dunno. The point that you make about different size venues is a valid one. Perhaps it's a matter of them (or even the booking agents) not being fully aware of all the venues available? I know I mentioned to MP about the Open Air Theater on the campus of SDSU around 2002 after I had seen a pair of concerts there. I don't think he ever mentioned it to their manager or booking agent, but I found it very interesting that they played that venue on Gigantour (which would've been booked by Megadeth's booking manager), and they ended up playing the same venue the next time they played in San Diego.

The thing is, Dallas has tons of venues in their capacity range. Same sorts of places that they play in Houston and SA/Austin. Nice, 1.5-3.5k seat places. Don't see why they're so affixed to Nextstage. Then you've got Ft Worth, which probably has more suitable venues. My guess is that they favor venues with fixed seating, which narrows their options a bit, but they still have plenty to choose from. Hell, I'd bet if they played Denton's very nice performance hall they'd sell quite a few more tickets than they do in Dallas. It might also be that they favor Nextstage for being between Ft Worth and Dallas, but it doesn't really work that way. We're all used to driving from one to the other all the time for bands we really want to see, and Grand Prairie kind of sucks for everybody.
From Wikipedia:This is one of the venues I've been to and seen DT at (altho I personally don't like the venue). Even then, consider let's say 25% of the capacity of this venue - that's still 4,375 tickets. Never mind the fact that both Philadelphia and New York City are each only about 2 hours driving distance, and typically they play in good sized venues for both cities too. So you can see why there's a big focus playing in the NE.QuoteThe PNC Bank Arts Center is a modern amphitheatre located in Holmdel Township, New Jersey, USA. We've had some discussion about this in the Red Bank concert thread, but when DT plays this venue, it also only sells like 20-30% of the capacity. In 2012 when I saw them there, I bought lawn seats the day of the show, but they moved me up to like the 20th row for free.

That said, there have been occasions where they've "blacklisted" certain locations due to the terrible problems that they had - their bad experience in mainland China made them swear off playing there again. And while that is extreme, I'm sure that there are some venues that have been blacklisted - one I would imagine is the Palace Theater in Los Angeles, site of the infamous fire marshal show.

One other thing that I just thought of might have to do with the political behind the scenes crap that probably goes on with booking shows. It's been a few years and I'm too tired to try to dig up the article now, but I remember reading somewhere that Clear Channel and/or Live Nation had been purchasing numerous venues, including some, if not all of the HOB's. The article said that since they had so much control over the US concert market, they could cause hassles for bands that tried to book some of their shows at venues they didn't own, in cities where they did have a presence. So that could be another reason why shows are booked the way they are.
And it could be that the promoters they deal with aren't comfortable booking them without an opening act or two. After all, DT doesn't command the audience of Rush, so there may be concerns that way.
Regarding the seating thing - it is an established fact (MP said so several years ago) that they are choosing to play in venues with seats, especially for the longer (Evening With) shows, so that the fans can sit down when they need to.

Sadly, I'll bet they have blacklisted the Pageant here in St. Louis, which is why they haven't been here since that show here in '04 where that idiot fell out of the balcony going for one of the drumsticks Portnoy tossed into the crowd. If so, that is completely unfair to blacklist an entire city basically because of one idiot, but there really is no other rational reason for them not having come here since (we went to their shows here in '94, '00 and '04, and all of them were packed to the max with energetic crowds)

Isn't it possible that they were blacklisted by the theater for said incident? They may have taken issue with the fact that the idiot fell because MP had thrown the drumstick in the air.

Honestly, I can't imagine that they'd blacklist that venue or even the city over what a fan did. But as Wasteland said, it could be that the venue could be the ones preventing them from playing there. Or it could be some sort of legal threat because of what happened. Hard to say. And they may feel that because St. Louis isn't that far away from Kansas City or Chicago, that you guys can travel there. Then again, it could be that they get better offers in KC so that they opt to play there for the region - I'm sure that's one of the reasons that they'll always do shows in Chicago.
It would seem pretty strange that booking agencies wouldn't be familiar with the various options here.Agreed, considering it's their job to be familiar with all the options, but who's to say they stay on top of this all the time, or maybe have assistants or employees who help book the shows that don't have that same knowledge. Without knowing all the ins and outs of booking concerts, all we can do is guess.
I know that Nextstage pretty much inherited the entire Bronco Bowl market by default when BB got bulldozed, which is how I suspect that DT wound up playing there. Most bands that played the Bronco Bowl now play out there, which is probably why Nextstage accommodates them with the half/quarter size configurations. Seems odd, though. It may seem odd, but it must be cost effective, or else you wouldn't continue to see them doing it over and over.
Something that always puzzled me was why promoters would think that the sorts of bands that open for DT would actually boost attendance. Do they think that people who would normally blow off DT would drive all the way to Grand Prairie because Periphery is opening? Of course no sooner than I type that I remember that I drove to Austin largely because Crimson Projekt was opening. :lolLOL! It could be that this is just the rule of thumb that promoters always go by. After all, we can say that we are one of the most dedicated fanbases in the world, but I'd wager that the majority of hardcore fans of any band/artist would say the same thing about their respective fanbases. So my point is, while we see DT and it's fanbase as different, the promoters do not, and therefore assume that they'll always sell more tickets having more bands on the bill.
Maybe Mike Portnoy peed on The Alamo and no one told us.He did, while he was drunk and wearing his wife's dress.

It really would be interesting to know why some cities and regions (not just Texas, the south and Florida, but the northwest and even Indiana) get passed over on at least a semi-regular basis.
Is there any indication additional US dates might be added? I am in the southeast and will travel north if necessary but I need to buy tix now and book flight as far in advance as possible to get a decent fare. Anyone have any news on that front??I don't have any inside information regarding their tour plans, but if I were you, I'd go ahead and plan on traveling to one of the shows in the north. While it's true that they usually do 2 legs through North America, there's no telling if they'll be Evening With shows or if they'll do a show close to where you live.

013 yeah? Interesting... That's more club-size in comparison to their big venue gigs nowadays. Could be fun, going to check my financial status.
Hmm do we think they might come back to the UK during the 2nd leg? And whats the possibility of a different setlist? :-\I'd say most likely and high.
Will there be changes to the set list for the North American leg?
I want more new stuff!
Would that not be a change in the set list? Or do you think they will add more songs in addition? Will there be changes to the set list for the North American leg?

Nah. Next leg I'd expect the 3 remaining new songs, though.

I think he meant the next leg after this first NA leg of the tour which at the moment would be the new European dates.
The NA leg seems to end in April where the 2nd Europe leg starts in July... I wonder if they're taking a long break or if a leg somewhere else, perhaps Asia or SA or Australia is being announced for that empty space?

South America seems the most likely option to me.
I know it's been expressed many times before but, nonetheless, it still stinks that Dream Theater completely ignored the South. It is incredible to me the Netherlands can get two shows on two separate legs and places like Slovakia can get a show but Florida ,Georgia, and Texas can't even get one show. It's even more astounding that they can play in a second tier town like Salem, Oregon for an Evening with... show but major markets like Miami/ Ft Lauderdale, Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston were not asked to "come along for the ride." I've heard all the excuses before regarding the promoters etc and it's all BS. That might have flied back in 2002 but not today. This North American tour, by anybody's standards, was incredibly short, and so far there has been not a word of a second leg. At this point, I don't expect one given that they are heading to Asia in October and South America after that. I wish someone in the organization would have the courtesy of saying yay or nay to another leg to include the South. All we are asking for is 2 1/2 weeks of your time DT. Don't keep us hanging...disappointed in Miami.Sorry for what I'm about to say, but I find their "how come *put name of country here* got *n* shows and we got NONE?! THIS IS AMERICA!" argument to be kind of stale. When you say "Dream Theater completely ignored the South", you are implying that the band itself decides where to go next. You possibly know this already, but that's complete BS. Putting up a tour is incredibly hard, you probably can't imagine how much. Lots of variables to be taken into consideration; and such task is a Dream Theater tour management job. They're definitely coming back for a second North American leg towards the end of the year, you just have to be patient and wait it to happen. Think about it, traveling to Europe and doing gigs over there is definitely more expensive than doing another North American run, so logic tells me that if they're up in Europe again, they're probably going to return to the United States.

Did I say that that's not a band issue already? The band can state their desires of playing in any country or city, but if the tour management can't make it happen (due to the local promoters, the cost, the venues, etc), it just won't happen. Sorry to hear DT didn't pay a visit to your town or somewhere near you, but all you can do is wait and stop complaining of things that are out of place.
When this argument comes up I equate it to the fact that on the first European leg they played 4 shows per country, and that's it. Whichever way you looked at it, the United States got over 30 shows for the one country. That's a hell of a lot more than 4. Just because there's 50 states doesn't mean they have to hit them all because that's impossible. That's the purpose of more than one leg. There's still the fact that they toured for over a month in ONE country. They covered a lot of ground here, whether they hit your area or not. And this coming from someone from South Florida, who didn't expect to see them on this past leg but was surprised with tickets to California. It sucks they didn't come here, but they still played a LOT of shows in the US.I would remind you that the Netherlands is half the size of New Jersey, that Germany and Italy (which got the bulk of the concerts on their two legs) is the equivalent of Texas and Florida, and that because everything in Europe is so close, a train ride puts just about everybody in Europe within a two hour distance to a show. The U.S. leg WAS short compared to their two legs in Europe. Just two and a half weeks longer on their first U.S. leg would have gotten most of the major U.S. markets covered. I am keeping my fingers crossed and I'll keep strumming my guitar to entertain myself...and when Mike Portnoy comes down with the Winery Dogs, I'll be sure to thank him profusely. Iguess that is all I can do.
Also, it doesn't look like they plan to stop the Evening With format anytime soon. JLB even said he preffered that format.

Let me just say that whether they come South or not, Dream Theater is still one of the best bands out there. They always give there best wherever they play and they are one of the hardest working bands there is. My gripe is just out of frustration because I am very passionate about the things I love... sometimes a bit too passionate. I can always count on DT to give the utmost quality effort which is sorely lacking these days. It sucks they didn't come here, but they still played a LOT of shows in the US.
Also, it doesn't look like they plan to stop the Evening With format anytime soon. JLB even said he preffered that format.
Really bad comparison. The size of the US as a country cannot be compared to any European country. The fact that any of those countries got more than one show is kind of a support to bluehazes argument that how did an entire region of the US get missed. But I am with Darklord in that its not DT saying no to the south, it just didnt work out in the schedule for whatever reason (time, money, promoters). Just hang tight until they announce a second US leg.
Let me just say that whether they come South or not, Dream Theater is still one of the best bands out there. They always give there best wherever they play and they are one of the hardest working bands out there. This is true. It also supports the argument that there's a LOT more territory to cover in the US versus a European country and would require a lot of shows to see everyone on one tour. If they wanted to visit each state only once in the continental US, that's 48 shows right there. And that's a lot of shows. When this argument comes up I equate it to the fact that on the first European leg they played 4 shows per country, and that's it. Recent Jordan Rudess interview from DT's facebook page. It's interesting that the interviewer is from South Florida. Not exactly a resounding "yes." Not a "no," but it doesn't sound all that promising.... Oh well... I'm glad he reminded him of us here in the South.
Any chance for more US shows following the Europe run?

Well he acknowledged it so thats a start. And thats probably a true statement too, he probably doesnt know exactly where they will be playing next.
I've heard all the excuses before regarding the promoters etc and it's all BS. That might have flied back in 2002 but not today. It's not BS, that is how tours work.
What I meant by that comment was that to argue that Dream Theater couldn't be profitable to the promoters and venues should they do an Evening with...show down here as the reason why they are not doing their tour here is just not correct.. Promoters know that Dream Theater IS a draw.. Believe it or not, Prog is popular in South Florida...and so is metal. There is a huge metal scene in Ft Lauderdale with two venues (Culture Room and Revolution) that specifically cater to metal. As far as prog, YES is bringing their third tour to South Florida in a little over two years...and that is WITHOUT Jon Anderson on vocals. Porcupine Tree played the Fillmore a few years ago and had a huge showing with ZERO promotion. Even Steven Wilson commented on how large the attendance was. I'm pretty sure Dream Theater has a larger audience here than Porcupine Tree. If YES can play down here so often( and they play three hour shows at a high level, too), and if Porcupine Tree can bring in such a huge audience with zero promotion, that tells me the promoters aren't the problem. Just a tiny amount of promotion would suffice to draw a large crowd given a reasonable price $30-$100 (tops)...not to mention the fact that Miami is the gateway to South America where they always do well. I suspect that management, for whatever reason, doesn't feel it is profitable ENOUGH to bring them here given we are so far south. If that is the case, then start the South American tour (or end it) in Florida and work into South America. Every show that I have been to in the last 17 years has had a very strong attendance (with minimal advertisement) with the crowd becoming more diverse tour after tour. There are multiple venues for Dream Theater to bring this tour to...In Miami, it would be the Fillmore...in Tampa, The Ruth Eckerd Hall. My question is this: How can it be more profitable to go through the same amount of travel expenses with a co-headlining tour and less actual take home pay due to splitting the revenue with the other bands, then it is to do your own show and have all of the take minus venue and promotional expenses? It doesn't make sense to me that taking and paying other bands on tour is more profitable. Dream Theater isn't the same unknown band it was in 1999. They now have two super recent Grammy nominations under their belt. That alone should give them leverage. I wish management and whomever else involved would just give us a not so chancy chance. I believe we deserve it.I've heard all the excuses before regarding the promoters etc and it's all BS. That might have flied back in 2002 but not today. It's not BS, that is how tours work.

Im pretty sure another US leg is definitely on their radar and probably likely.
Scarred and SDV are two of my Top 5 DT songs so I couldn't wait for those. I don't even really care for The Mirror/Lie, but I've enjoyed these versions very much.
I am from Nashville, Tennessee and a fairly new DT fan. Have not heard them live, but I have faith they will come somewhat close to me, probably Atlanta. Hey, I am older than the band, so do not have many chances left to see them. ;D
Any word on a 2nd US leg?Nothing yet. Anxiously waiting...Did see Mike Portnoy rock it last night in Ft. Lauderdale.
I bet they'll make changes at some point, because if they play a second North American leg in early 2015, there's no point in doing the anniversary sets anymore.
2015 is the 20th of ACoS... Just throwing that out there.I can see them pulling it out for this.
Cool. Double epics! How about IT, 8VM, AND ACoS?
That would be the sickest night of my life if not for the fact that MM would be hospitalized, John Petrucci's arm would fall off, James Labrie would regress to his 1995 state, Jordan would grow hair so that it could turn white, and John Myung would comment on the difficulty of the show.
2015 is the 20th of ACoS... Just throwing that out there.
It's also the thirtieth of the band as a whole unless you're JLB.
JLB on 1985: "For me personally, that's when the band formed at Berklee. But as far as I'm concerned, the way I look at it... The first album came out in 1989, so as far as I'm concerned 2019 will be our 30th. I always go by when the band released their first album. I know it was established in 1985, because that's where Mike and John Petrucci and John Myung -- that's where they met. So the nucleus of the band was formed there, and then it spread out from there. So, to me, 2015 doesn't really commemorate 30 years for me. It commemorates 25. So how about we do something to commemorate our 25th...which would be now. The 25 years would be now in 2014, if we wanted to do that. We'll definitely, in 2019, still be going so I think at that point it would be really cool."
I thought I said it before but I can't find it, so I'll say it again-

But you got me on TTT and LTL. Keep LTL and change TTT to some other ten minute song. Maybe Misunderstood or Blind Faith.
As for what’s in the future for Dream Theater, we have some dates here in the summer, some time off and some more dates later on. As for the new album, we have to get through with all of the touring and which will round up by the end of this year. So, if I understood correctly, Jordan says the world tour will finish by the end of this year.
One could say the same thing about IaW, and yet there's a complete lack of songs from that album in the current setlist (aside from a few festival shows). Nonetheless, I agree if you swap out Home for TtT, that (already great) setlist would be even better.I thought I said it before but I can't find it, so I'll say it again-Nothing from SFAM, yikes! Granted they are celebrating its anniversary now with 4 straight songs, but it's the essential album to include in every set lol

https://ytsejam.com/2014/07/interview-dream-theater-keyboardist-jordan-rudess/That would basically confirm they're not changing the set at all for the entire tour, as if they're only going to play maybe 1 or 2 more legs for the entire tour, there'd be no point in changing it at this stage. I'd imagine an Asian/Pacific tour, and maybe (HOPEFULLY) a second US tour to cover all the spots they missed.Quote from: Jordan RudessAs for what’s in the future for Dream Theater, we have some dates here in the summer, some time off and some more dates later on. Can someone confirm if this is true?

Seems they played the entire SFAM?
Clearly the setlist can't be true, else they'd still be playing, and I know they are not since I am waiting for them to come out and sign autograph.
Same setlist as always, people.
Sao Paulo, Brazil Oct 4, Rio Oct. 5 Melbourne Australia Oct 29, Sydney Oct 30...Enjoy Folks...
Prices from $110-$200 per ticket though. Yikes.

Is it a different venue to last time there?
My sister is going to be rotten about it when I tell her she's unlikely to hear anything from Images and Words. Hopefully they may throw something in seeing as it's been 4 or 5 years.
That is the only kind of show I will pay to see, but history shows it isn't going to happen. I've paid for more than enough multi-act shows down here and they are lame medley filled shows. Eighty minute shows are NOT worth $60 or more....It is amazing to me that they couldn't fit in a couple of weeks for the Southern half of the USA...If he can do a tour with a bunch of so-called metal Allstars and a solo album and do two legs for Europe he can fit in Florida and Georgia and Texas with DT. I am hugely disappointed...today is a terrible day. It's mostly a promoter thing, not a DT thing. Stop crying.
Never Enough
I would be pissed off as well.
I'm just glad I live within 3 hours of any major venue in Southern California... minus San Diego... but who ever plays San Diego without coming up to Los Angeles?
Communists. That's who.
Does anybody know who their tour promoter is and how to contact them?
So, a 2nd show has been just announced in Argentina. I was wondering how much can the setlist change between both shows?

Zero change in the setlist.
Miek Porntoy is cumming bakc!
I think we can safely say that we can call this the "everybody can come along for the ride but the South" tour. Hoorah!!!Your past 15+ posts have been DT-not-coming-to-the-south-of-the-US-and-that-breaks-me-related.
You are right. Sorry for my bitterness..Congrats to South Korea and all of those that are fortunate enough to see them do their Evening with....show. My question is still out there as to who to contact regarding bringing them here. How do I contact the promoters down here???I do feel for ya man, especially after JL had made promises on stage that they'd be returning early next year. In any case, I gotta admit that your last post (before it was edited) made me laugh, even if it was sarcastic. ;)
Alright, this next show is the only one on the tour that is at the same venue two nights in a row, right? I understand they tweeted that the second show was added due to popular demand, but am I the only one who'd say that with everything in consideration there is at least some chance of a small setlist change for this show?Well JR did post a video last week on Facebook of him playing part of The Glass Prison ;D I'm still not convinced though, with the way they've set up their show.
DT has never played the same set at the same venue two nights in a row- even on the leg of ADTOE where there was an otherwise static setlist. They added To Live Forever, Paradigm Shift, and 21st Century Schizoid Man.
I'm hoping for a possible Pull Me Under or something from WDADU since that never got its 25 year anniversary spot.
Actually that was Shattered Fortress, not Glass Prison.Oops :blush
So... what was the setlist in Chile and Argentina?
Wait - you mean they played ACoS, TCoT, ItPoE, Octavarium and LtL?!?!?!?! :omg:So... what was the setlist in Chile and Argentina?
Take a guess... ;D
I have no desire to watch the new video because it will remind me of what didn't come our way
I assume you are from the Netherlands...Not to derail your post BH as I do sympathize with you, but Blob's not from there. Here's a hint at where he's from:
One word for jingleboy: HOGWASH!!!! Check their Facebook page and you will see many people are disappointed that DT didn't play a WHOLE REGION. No Dallas, No Miami. No Atlanta. No Charlotte. No New Orleans. No Houston. No Orlando. No Tampa. Supply and demand my ass. There is plenty demand in the South. You can't tell me there is more demand in Salem Friggin Oregon than there is in Miami/ Ft.Lauderdale where there is a huge metal base. Frankly, if Dream Theater expects to only play where they can get sell-outs, then they are alienating a shit load of fans. The best way to lose fans is to alienate them. This North American tour sucked (what, only 19 shows) as far as places played. In this day and age where music store no longer exist, touring is the way bands the make their money now. Dream Theater have, instead, resorted to selling ridiculously overpriced ($150 plus ticket price) meet and greet packages, and over-priced water-bottles. What's next? Over-priced Dream Theater condoms and coffins a la KISS. If Mike Portnoy can bring his band to Ft Lauderdale for $23 surely Dream Theater could have played here for $50-$60.Really mang, I think you're overdoing it. All your posts in this forum have been related to your disappointment for DT not playing anywhere near you. Of course there are complaints over DT's facebook page... everyone wants the band to play in their own backyards if possible.
Two words for bluehaze.I'll agree with the supply/demand argument to a degree, but a major part of the problem is that some of the guys in the band (I'm almost 100% certain JP is one of them) is unwilling to be on the road for more than 4 or 5 weeks at a time, which is admirable in one way, but sucks in another. As such, typically you'll see that the European leg of a tour is split into 2 parts, with a 10 day space in the middle to allow the guys time to return home. I recall asking MP why they didn't do that in North America and IIRC, he said it wasn't cost effective, since they had to keep the crew guys paid for the 10 days they were off the road, but apparently it worked in Europe. Why the difference, I don't know.
Supply. Demand.
You can talk about demand from YOUR perspective, but this is a business for the band. Like it or not, demand dictates the price, and thus what (and in this case, where) the supply will be. It's not just a random whim as to where the band decides to play.
I'm surprised they didn't do another North American leg, there are obviously fans in the regions they decided to skip over during the spring. Such a shame about so many people not being able to see this show. I'm extremely grateful they did two European legs, honestly. What's really disappointing is the fact that it was implied by comments JL would make at the shows that they would be returning at the beginning of the year for another round of shows. Of course, things can happen (whatever they may be) so that a second tour leg doesn't happen, but you'd think they would've been more careful about what they said until it was a done deal that they were doing a second run thru North America.
All true, Scott, and my "understanding" is that this tour was VERY expensive to put on. As in VERY.Those moving lights are probably ten grand apiece. I'm assuming they're rented, as they seem to be different from the ones used on the Dramatic Tour (but could be the same ones as PN09). Whatever the hell they used for video probably cost at least three human sacrifices per concert (which should have been the sound engineers IMO).
They Added another Show in Poland, woodstock festival 30th July.
LoL, of course i'll be there.
Holy shit, he hasn't been online in almost two months! :omg:
I sure hope cyberdrummer is doing okay. I didn't realize how much I relied on his updates until his absence.
OK. I am a newbie to DT. About 1 year. Love them! I have bought tickets to both LA and Reno. Everything is General Admission? I bout the VIP Platinum for LA.Actually there ARE technically seats at the Wiltern in LA, except they're in the balcony, which I actually prefer. I always get seats up the when I see bands there. I like having the seat because then I get my own designated standing spot. Lol
I saw this show earlier this year in Oakland and got seats right when I purchased. These tickets are going to be sent 2-4 weeks prior. I don't get it. I don't think they have standing - just seats - for this concert. I even emailed the ticket seller - yep only General admission. Got to stand in a line for a venue with only seats. I bought during presale from the DT website.
