Real Genius > Weird Science

Stand by Me and The Goonies aren't really the same type of movies.

I think part of the problem with Spaceballs is that it's not just a Mel Brooks comedy, it's a satire of a specific movie.  Blazing Saddles still cracks me up every time because it's a parody of Westerns in general, and racism, and Hollywood, and so on.  But by targeting Star Wars, the humor is much more limited in scope, depends on knowledge of the original source (which admittedly isn't really a huge problem) and whether the viewer hasn't heard the same jokes 1000 times already.

I too remember liking Spaceballs a lot -- it was one of the first VHS tapes I got, way back when -- but when it comes round on TV, I can watch about five minutes of it before I have to change the channel.

if you can, listen to the commentary while watching Spaceballs.  if memory serves, it's quite entertaining.

The reason is that it's funny.

Exactly.  The guy that played Wyatt was an atrocious actor, but Anthony Michael Hall was great, and every scene with Bill Paxton was pure awesomeness.

"You two donkey dicks couldn't get laid in a morgue."  Still one of my favorite lines from any comedy ever.  :lol :lol :lol :lol

I just watched Real Genius thanks to this thread. Another classic '80s movie. I didn't like the wiener kid so much, but Val Kilmer's character was great. It had so many good one liners too. :lol

Ghostbusters 2016 - I thought it was funny sometimes. It never felt like a Ghostbusters film though. With a different title and removing Ghostbusters references, it could hold its own as a good comedy. It was forced often, but totally different which I can respect. Besides Leslie Jones, the leads' comedic improvisation chops weren't on. The delivery of the jokes were bad. It was obvious that they were improvising, in contrast to the original where you had no idea they were improvising.

I wouldn't recommend renting it. But, I recommend checking it out when it's playing on cable for free.

Popstar - Never stop never stopping

I liked it, it was a fun extended skit with the Lonely Island guys and quite enjoyable. Fun pisstake on the popstar phenomenon and its culture.
